I've been told, and I think, that I am intelligent. I read a lot. I keep up on current events. I think for myself.
As for you, benoitowns, how would you rank yourself? Judging by the think layer of arrogance and sarcasm in your question, I would have to say that you think you are highly intelligent, and so much smarter than those of us who could not pass a "retard internet test."

While I know what your getting at (Sociology student, right?). I would suggest that you not insult an entire community for possessing a trait common to our ENTIRE SPECIES (assuming your human). There are several very good reasons for doing this.benoitowns said:
First, at least the Escapist community has standards that most of us uphold. Second, the mods will ban you if you start to make this place unpleasant (I give this warning because you have a low post count, so I assume your knew here). Third, it's not a good way to make friends, or even friendly acquaintances. Well, yes and no. If your parents have enough money, then the uni doesn't give a shit how smart you are. Also, depending on the college you go to (one like mine for example) you'll probably have a football team. And everyone will love it, a lot. To be honest, yes, I do think I'm smarter than most of the people I meet on a daily basis. It depends though, when some of my friends, for example, play some instrument, then they know more about me where some notes are etc, but generally I've found that even with that short time I've lived, I've gotten absorbed much more knowledge about everything than most of the people I've met.
Though yes, there are a few people that I, without a doubt, consider far smarter than me. They are absolutely wonderful to talk to, and always have something to say about something. Most of the people I know, however, don't reach that far.

because every1 remembers when they recognize other people making mistakes, but nobody notices when they make mistakes because otherwise they wouldnt make them. people also tend to ignore when their own mistakes are pointed out, self-defense mechanism.*
* which also relates to the philosophy of the more you realize you don't know, the more you know. becaues the ability to recognize things you dont understand means you understand them as a concept.

I'm the smartest person in my family, but compared to some of my friends I'm not that great. So I'd say average.
Actually, Im just a freshman in a high school full of idiots. I was not trying to be unpleasant, and Ive been using the escapist for a while, just never made an account. I noticed that I believed that I was smarter than everyone around me and my friends all thought the same about themselves, but I was able to look past myself to realize that it is not necessarily intelligence that makes a good student, it is mostly the amount of passion, care, and effort. I know I am smart because I have none of these yet I can get good grades. I have the ability to think quite critically, which made me realize all semi-smart people will follow to this believe. The last two sentences or so were sarcastic, I was mocking what I hypothesized the results to be, as most nerds or gamers have an 'awesomeness better than his teammates' type of ego. The whole retard test thing I was alluding to online so called "IQ Tests" where they would give obscure questions and poorly worded versions of actual IQ Test questions to where most logical thinkers would fail, and non logical thinkers as well. They way I set about this was because I presumed that most people would come to the same conclusion that this was more of a survey prediction type of thing that can be laughed at from a stander-by's perspective. I mean seriously, almost everyone thinks they might as well be the greatest people in the universe. I know that if I used more objective terms I could have gotten more accurate results such as: Dumb-ass, Stupid, Average, Smart, Genius. But that isn't fun and doesn't tap into the egos of people, but since I am focusing on the average person, I decided that using subjective adjectives slightly and considerably were more descriptive but still make people have to decide. No one would say they are a genius, unless they are overly self confident. Most self conscious people would say slightly above average because there is no threat of embarrassment in saying that. I just wanted to make an interesting topic of discussion as my first Escapist thread, and it seemed to have worked. Also I took your suggestion about the cookie. MMMM chocolate dipped! I have to say that I'm impressed with how professional the actual survey question and answers were. They're almost word for word what my Sociology 101 professor asked the class. Although, if you want to get a number with integrity, then you shouldn't mention what you think the result will be. And what you said about the kind of people likely to take the survey was also valid (that being that Escapists may have above average intelligence).
You should know, this "arrogance" phenomenon appears elsewhere. For example, the average college student believes they drink less than the average college student. Which is, of course, impossible.
