Intelligence is pointless if you don't do something cool with it. So if you think you're above average, get out there and do something above average.

I think I'm maybe slightly above average but nothing more.
I've no idea what average intelligence would actually entail so I can't really gauge where I'd fit in and IQ doesn't count for that much.

Oh boy, here come the "I just scored 4000 on the IQ test at irsmarterer.com". Even though a lot of the critics (including myself) of the IQ test score high on it, it doesn't mean we don't recognize the cultural and regional bias of the IQ test. It's well documented. Plus intelligence has no one accepted definition.

I don't consider scholastic achievement and grades as any sort of representation of intelligence. All school teaches is how to memorize and take tests. So you know the atomic weight of cobalt? So what? That doesn't mean that you have the ability to apply that knowledge. I know it's cliche, but many of the greatest minds in the world did terrible in school.

True intelligence in my opinion involves taking full advantage of reason. Using fairly basic deduction and objective thinking to come to conclusions and solve problems.

I'll take the guy with 5 years experience in the field over the newly graduated bachelor degree wielding rookie any day.

I predict that this will be an ego thread. A thread with a ton of replies, but no one really reading what other people are saying. Just posting their thought, and dismissing everyone else.

That being said. Yes, I'm as arrogant as anyone when it comes to self valuation of intelligence. But that conclusions is not even close to unfounded or without merit.

My recorded IQ was 140 on a college provided test, so above average I guess. I learn very quickly and easily memorize information and I'm generally very skilled at real world problem solving. My biggest flaw is that I'm a bit short onn common sense and motivation...so Smart But Lazy, i guess.

I had an IQ (the Stanford-Binet) test in high school to check for disabilities before I dropped out. I didn't care to ask for the number, but it did come back as "not handicapped". Apparently I did well in the memory function portion.

Also, hooray not being handicapped! I could use the parking sticker though...

It's a well known fact that the average man considers himself to be of above average intelligence. So these results are not just limited to the escapist.

Anyway I don't see any real discussion value here, only bragging rights. So I'm moving on.

I've never had an IQ test, but according to all my other tests (SAT, ACT, AIMS), I am in the top 80-90% for mathematics, readings, writing, comprehension in the US.

However, I am not above doing stupid things XD I've made MANY a dumb mistake that I really should have been smart enough to avoid.

Overall, it depends on how you define intelligence. I think I'm pretty booksmart, but I'm pretty damn dumb in other aspects of life.

BTW: Guys...all of you claiming to be like 140 and higher...seriously? That's supposedly genius level. Hard for me to believe.

At least I acknowledged that I only voted slightly above average based upon my accomplishments in academia, as I assumed that is how many people would vote.

I'm (on paper) a genius, have an IQ of 158, the gross majority of my aptitudes ranking over the top two percentiles and with 3 aptitudes hitting monstrous levels, however, I consider myself to be pretty ignorant; thus I postulate it is not I who is "above average", it is the average man who is subpar.

I voted 'average'...

The question is, I suppose, dependent on one's definition of 'average'...

I have an IQ of 165 and did A-level maths at 12 but I don't think that prevents me from being a retard...

I fancy myself quite intelligent, having taken all AP classes in high school, but aside from that, I've always been adept at projecting the image of myself as an intelligent person by casually using multi-syllabic words in normal conversation. That said, intelligence as a concept is hard to quantify because it appears in so many different forms. Verbal capacity and the ability to absorb and regurgitate information have been the standard measures of how smart you are in my experience, and in that respect, I've done pretty well for myself.

I've been told (By my College and former High School) that I "Am an underachiever, but has an above average intelligence". According to a former therapist when I had to do therapy and counselling, I'm an underachiever because of my emotional problems.

Another reason I think I'm slightly above average/above average is because the last time I took an IQ test (Two to three months ago) my score was 153.

Gonna break the trend and say I got BELOW average intelligence overall.

Whatever natural intelligence I might have had, it deteriorated over time through my sheer laziness.

It depends on what kind of smarts you're looking for. Rote memory? Reasoning ability? Perhaps just perception? Are you looking for street smarts?

My answer is that I can spot personalities and characters from miles away, finish peoples sentences before them, figure out their quirks in about 5 minutes and convince them to do a good range of things within 30. If you want me to be the next Stephen Hawking, I don't have the physics behind me. But if you're asking me something about history, sociology, anthropology, psychology, I'll answer them for you. And if you put a good mystery in front of me, that shit gets solved. I can and will weave myself through even the toughest web of intrigue. So I'm smart in that sense.

Use of reason and deduction without specialist knowledge qualifies one only to be a philosopher... or a detective.

So does everyone else, which is why a swathe of graduates is unemployed unless they have PhD's.

Of course it is, do you think I've read anything else except my own haughty and pretentious post?!

That being said. Yes, I'm as arrogant as anyone when it comes to self valuation of intelligence. But that conclusions is not even close to unfounded or without merit.
As is everyone else's...

Alright, if we're going by academic standards of intelligence, then I'm pretty high up there. Not trying to brag, I just studied really hard for some important tests.

However, I find that academia has almost no bearing on real life. To me, elementary through high school teaches you how to learn, and college just gives you the groundwork for whatever field you want to go into. Grades rarely show how well someone will do in the work world.

So, let's go by common sense. Well, I'm certainly not an idiot, but I can't say I rank particularly high. I know enough not to do anything stupid, but that doesn't mean I'm smart enough to listen to myself. I have screwed up more than my fair share of times. The good news is, I do think I'm learning, albeit slowly.

In conclusion, academic intelligence is above average, common sense is borderline average. I'd say that averages to a slightly above average, right?

Above average. I put almost no effort into my schoolwork and walk away with excellent grades. According to my friends, I'm a genius, but I don't agree with that.

A better question is "how many people took online IQ tests and think they stand for anything?"
,or even normal IQ tests. They don't always show the most intelligent people apparently. I wouldn't know though, I haven't taken any.
