I don't tan. I don't like the idea of tans and tanning. As such, I am not tanned. In fact, the sun and I are not friends, but not in the "it-burns-me" way, rather, in the "I-hate-hot-and-the-Sun-always-gets-in-my-eyes" way.

I'm one of the whitest people I know. I can't really get tanned, no matter what I do, I can only get ever so slightly less pale.

So? Most black people can tan too. It's just not as obvious
I'm not brown, I'm actually black...

I have "Jew Blood" so I'm sort of light olive skin tone. Despite I never see the light of day I still manage to have a tan.

**sigh** Where was this thread last year, when I could have voted the naked sun-bathing option?

This year? Pregnancy makes getting sun difficult. Having a newborn, moreso.

I've been getting some sun lately, I guess, so maybe faint, faint tan-lines? Kinda? I guess?
Congrats on your pregnancy! Or if you've had the baby already, then even more congratulations XD

OT: I'm a white as a sheet. I have two skin colours - pale as hell or red. I wish I could tan, I probably should be a red head, my skin is so sensitive. (I wish I were, their hair colour is GORGEOUS!)
I don't want to use fake tan because it can look trashy. One time I did used some tinted moisturiser which looked nice because it wasn't OTP so I might try that again.

I have a fairly permanent tan thanks to the right genetic heritage. Even when I was in the Navy and would spend weeks belowdecks without a hint of sunshine I never faded below a light tan.

OTOH, I am overweight and rarely go out without a shirt on so my arms are slightly darker than the rest of me but not noticeably so, ie no tan lines per se.

I don't tan I burn horribly. So the sun and I have an agreement, I don't go out in it for long and it won't burn me. Also I am a winter person I hate summer so woohoo the heat is coming to an end.

I'm mildly tanned and I'm in Australia, but I'm a gardener so I'm outside a lot.
People still have gardeners outside of soap operas?

Or is this one of those things where two similar words have different connotations in American English.
I travel around and look after old peoples places for them since they can no longer do it themselves.

I don't seem to be able to tan that much. My arms do a bit (although due to being completely broke and living in the arsehole of nowhere I can't go out to the town centre much). I started wearing shorts a few months back non-stop, yet my legs have not tanned in the slightest even though my arms have.

funny thing, i didn't even notice i got a bit tan until the tan marks appeared on my arms and neck/shoulders area. this is primarily because im ALWAYS wearing a t-shirt, and to top it off, im half black, half white, so my arms are kinda just that color all year round.

I'm Scottish by ancestry... That's the whitest kind of person.
I hear your ante and raise my own Blonde Swedish and Ginger English genetic mix. Not even an ironic trace of melanin.

I don't tan, I lobster.

My mums are big on genealogy and ancestry as academic hobbyists... Can trace our roots almost back to Pict and Viking era clans by approximate geography.

I have seen too much sun, but since I have ginger genes (I got the skin, but now the hair) I can stand the sun for about, hmm, 5 minutes.

Except I live in Osaka which was not designed for people with ginger genes, so I am all red with freckles. I just hope that I do not turn into one huge freckle like some ginger people.

I am quite tanned for a Irish person, especially seen as we've got a total of 2 days of sunshine this summer.

But I don't get tan marks. At no point on my body does my tan suddenly stop. Maybe its because I don't sunbathe, and the tan I get is from moving around in the sun, but my arms gradually go from light brown around the wrists to basically white at my shoulders.

I think it's slight just a difference of terminology. Where I'm from, if you're part of a group that travels around a lot, you're a landscaper. Gardeners generally work solo for a much more limited number of people.
