I tend to reload if I know I'm going into one of those "Point of no return" area's and I haven't finished all of the side quests yet. I'm as suck for side quests that's just how it is. XP

The only time I have refused to reload was with Final Fantasy XII to go after the Zodiac spear. No way in heck was I tossing 160 hours out the door simply because I opened the wrong chest in the beginning and botched my chances for the most powerful item. In the end I didn't even finish the game. But in my opinion, if it isn't a complete waste, that is what save games are for. :)

I got Garrus killed in the suicide mission, when I realized I had no saves before it, so I deleted the whole save and started anew to get him back. I won't let anything happen to the characters I like.

I usually have some sort of plan. If it fouls up, I reload my save. However, my plans are usually simple, and I sometimes just make a new character.

For example, Oblivion. I think I've had maybe 30 or so characters, but only 15 made it past level 5, and 10 made it past level 10. I'd say 5 made it past level 20, and 2 made it past level 30.

So... yeah, I don't really mind mistakes. Although sometimes I might get bored of a play style and try something new.

Well, it depends on the game I suppose. Heavy Rain actually makes it intriguing to let your characters die. You kind of want to know how the story will play out if you do. I suppose a game would have to do something like this to make me think moving on despite my losses was a good idea.

But in Fallout, I don't care how far back my save was, if Dogmeat died, I had to reload. I ended up having to leave him in my house to keep him safe. I also felt the same way about Fawkes and Charon.

Something similar happened to me as it did to Jedoro in Mass Effect 2. It depends entirely on how much I'm into the game. If I really care about the characters I'll generally try to get the best ending possible for them. That said, my main concern about ME2 was the fact that the save game will carry on to ME3. If it didn't then I may not have gone back to a previous save point.

Also, it depends on how much I've done in between saves. Sometimes I forget to save and find I've gone hours without doing so, and so I'm reluctant to redo all that. If I don't care much about the characters though, then I rarely reload. As for small things like failing minor tasks, I don't bother with that. :p

I'll reload, as long as I don't have to re-do too much stuff to get back to where I was; otherwise I just say "screw it" and carry on.

I'm so bad it's to the point that I'll play through a section then go reload and go through it again so I know where the bad guys are and I can save ammo. In an RPG I save right before I talk to anybody so if I "screw up" the dialogue I can go back and redo it.

What's even worse is when you're too paranoid to save. I've had it happen where right after I save, something comes around a corner and ganks me less than a second after the save so upon reload, you get stuck in a death loop you can't get out of and you have to go back to an older save.

That's one of the reason's I like MMOs, you have to seriously consider the outcomes of what will happen if you make a mistake (generally speaking).
That happened to me in the level Water Hazard of Half-Life[sup]2[/sup]. I was trying to solve the puzzle where you put the barrels in a catch basket to raise the ramp, but at the time I thought you were supposed to ditch the airboat and use the barrels to make a bridge across the radiation. After failing in my efforts to make a bridge (mind you I was already in the radiation pool) I saved and quit, as I instinctively do. Later, when I loaded my save, I was stuck in an endless rad-death loop.

I was pissed.

I rarely load up a previous save, unless I got stuck an a death loop. I'm pretty good at accepting bad results; it comes with doing science.

With the notable exception of Heavy Rain. Because a bad result in that game is like having bad results on my PhD thesis.

You could have used console commands.
I hope you're happy. You made me feel stupid.

Only after a game over, I don't go with the continue option because maybe part of why I lost was due to something a little before the actual losing perhaps.

It does depend on the game though, fighting games, always continue. RPG games and adventure titles, I always load it.

Depends on if I'm playing for story or playing for Acing/Highscores/Trails for rare items with limited turns or tools.

In a lot of games for me, the type of games where loot or items randomly drop, or there are multiple endings, I usually make a couple of different save files to play through. Usually when i get to one of those points mentioned I'll take one route all the way through, then go back and retry the alternative way later.

I don't really think it would be cheating. It might not be the intended way of playing the game, but cheating usually denotes breaking rules.
