Well, I personally see no problem with gay/bi people of either gender.
Unfortunatly, the area I live in finds lesbians to be a more socially acceptable norm than gay men. I only know two or three males who have openly admitted to being gay, and one of them is socially insecure.
Maybe its not true, but from my standpoint, it seems that male figures are homophobic, and are taught/raised to be homophobic considering it wrong. A man is just as homophobic to a woman as they are to a fellow man, the difference is that the woman will not be interested in them, so they will feel more accepting of them even though homophobic. Meanwhile the male could have a possible interest, causing the homophobia to kick in as they feel they could possibly be directly invovled in it, and as such it is seen as a stygma.
If you look at it, it goes both ways, as women who are straight are more accepting of male gays than women gays... At least from what I've seen. The difference is that most women will keep their homophobia on a down low/hidden/won't care that much, so they will be less likely to react in the way a male would react.
I could go into a long version of this, but to put it simply...
Both genders are homophobic, it's just males are more open about their homophobia, and as such gay men have a harder time than gay women.
