Why would they even need to fight? The U.S. has so many debts to them, they just have to buy everything.

I actually kind of like the idea of a semi-Cold War. Get the technology arms races going, without the wars and destruction. Get a new Space Race to Mars. Science and technology improves as a result, as does society's training in production and technology.

Hahaha!
Ever heard of the EU?
We're a tight bunch.
Well, except for the UK, so I'll give you that. *remembers the beginning of the Iraq war and Blair's immediate asslicking*
The EU would either stay neutral, join up with the US (both depending on the reasons for the war of course) or try to help negotiations to avoid the conflict.

If anything happens, I retreat to my moon base and explore further options....

OT: USA! USA! USA!

But seriously, I think both countries would hold their own. Nothing would change, except for a little radiation here and there.....

You do realize that America puts in about $500 Billion into their military a year while China in 2nd place for military spending, spends only about $67 Billion a year for their military. The $500 Billion a year that America spends is about half of the whole expenditure of the world. So even if every country were at war with us and we used our entire military force, the U.S. would still have about a 50/50 chance. The U.S. doesn't fuck around when it comes to their military.

The UK of course, we let things play out, countries ally themselves and fight between them, we move in at the end and destroy anything. :p

Of course, nobody would attack us, we have nothing in the UK worth attacking us for, unless you want the UK as a giant battle fortress.

Wow, This is deep. First we have to understand who is more independent from the other.

China produces the goods America needs, Wants and desires, Most clothing, toy, and other items are produced in china, And sold to the U.S The USA has a extreme Trade Deficit to china, Because of this, While USA doesn't give anything but money, This generates income for china in order for them to launch wars. America on the other hand is pretty self reliant because of its Agricultural suppliant nature, Unfortunately both can't survive without the other, Because both economies only exist to thrive off the other. Thus, War couldn't happened and if it did The Global Market would crash and never recover.

I think you lot might be underestimating China's Military technology wise, or overestimating America's superiority whichever fits.

Also you forgot NK in consideration of China's allies.
It might join, it has the 4th largest army in the world, but they might hold out because of China's involvement in dismantling their nuclear program.
I still think they would join, hell if it wasnt for China there wouldnt be a North Korea.

China has the money and we don't. Like everything else in life, war follows the Golden Rule: He who has the gold makes the rules.

China has only recently started modernising there vast military establishment, It will take in my mind some time for them to achieve parity with US technological advancements, As far as I know the united stated are still alarmed at the potential of chinas vast standing army spilling out of there boarders, back in the hight of cold war hysteria I'm pretty sure the US had a nuclear solution worked into the strategic papers.
Right now I still believe the United States has the edge diplomatically, strategically and militarily.
But given time and the amount of manufacturing and technology 'out sourcing' the western nations are implementing in the name of saving on labor (to china), I do see it been quite easy for China to far outstrip the United States in the not so distant future both in production and tech advancement, especially with the united states military establishment squandering billions on dead end technologies. And potential dead end technologies (stealth anyone?).
Right now China faces its own challenges of administrating over 1 billion citizens, dealing with crack pot dictators on there doorstep, enacting a single child policy, (a rather unique way of avoiding the need to expand ones boarders) And actually trickling down the benifits of there new found wealth to the masses.

I don't know who would win, but depending on whether nuclear weapons are used it would be total annihilation, or if they're not it would be a stalemate.

But I'd like to think that our (UK) government would show a bit of common sense (I think I can see a herd of pigs flying) and would stay out of it.

The Chinese own us through loans and depend on our dumb, unpatriotic, selfish, and petty citizens buying their cheap slave made shit. Why would they want to kill us if they could ride on our money? When we're broke they'll use someone else.

I think they would smash us (well they are economically). We have no manufacturing capability to sustain a massive war anymore (whereas in WW2 we as a nation accounted for half of the manufacturing in the world). Also our people (Americans, let me clarify) are no longer used to hardship and sacrifice. We're really lazy, wimpy, ignorant blowhards. If somebody raised taxes or set up rations or quotas to help the war effort we'd shit bricks and complain about not being able to play X Box or do fantasy football. Chinese people on the other hand strike me as being people that could survive on the spilled guts of their dead if they were told to.

I would say that if America's firepower can cripple the Chinese economy in the first six months of the war, then America will probably win. If China succeeds in defending it's huge industrial complexes then i predict that the war would slip invariably into China's favour.

China has the skill's, the manpower, the technology and the money to quickly catch up to the USA, which is why i would give America around six months to cripple China. If America fails to do this then China will simply out-produce the USA, China could make 10 J-10's for every one F22 that America could put into the air. If China wins or loses the war, China could still bounce back, whereas if America wins or loses the war, i would say that the war would be detrimental to the American economy. Even if America win's, it will hike up American debt even further.

This is all ignoring the fact that nukes exist btw. If nuclear warfare breaks out, both America and China are screwed, and the real winners will be India and the EU nations. (I sincerely hope that Britain sticks with it's EU counterparts rather than following America into a war against China)

Yeah, the Chinese intervened in the Korean War when North Korea was getting beaten by the US and UN forces, but you can't really apply 50 year-old events to modern foreign policy without applying it to modern stuff, now that China has entered the Six-Party Talks to make North Korea disarm, I'm not sure what they would do. They might enter on account of China being a major trading partner, but I'm doubtful that they would.
