Okay, today I was watching the History Channel. The show started talking about aliens, so I kept it on. Some guy came up and said: "I was raised a devout Christian," He said. I couldn't see how that matters, but then he continued: "and in school I had to translate scripture from Hebrew to Latin to German. One of the scriptures I copied was god telling Moses to build a gate so He could come down and talk to the Israelites without them being damaged by his divinity. This got me thinking, did god come down from the sky, not a god, but an extraterrestrial?" The show continued to talk about how the Nazca shapes in the sand were made to be seen by flying things, UFOs and such, and how ancient Indians (India Indians, I mean.) had epics about flying ships and such. Also, cave paintings and sculptures showed aliens in weird head gear that appeared to be an astronaut's. It talked about how the pyramids were impossible to build without the alien's help, how the Olmec pyramid of the sun and pyramids surrounding it is a model of the solar system, how a group of buildings somewhere in Mexico looked not only like the pleidies, (spelling?) but like a recently discovered rock thing. He said Enoch, a prophet from the old testament, was taken to heaven, or rather a UFO, and taught by angels, or rather aliens. So what do you think, does this idea hold any merit? I didn't think so at all. I found tons of flaws with their arguments, and the German's followers, his name was Erich Von Da-something-German, seemed like cultists, insane and believing whole heartedly that they were correct.

Needs a "I understand the logic but I need empirical evidence" option.

About as much merit as the other conspiracy theories, I suppose.

I'm sure if you want to, you can believe anything you want.
If that guy wants to have an outlandish belief? I say let him.
Worth a laugh, right?

So I suppose I have to answer in two parts:
-It has no merit for me.
-But it obviously does for him.

The German who says God's an alien?
I reckon it's a cult, as does my friend who's read his books.

So God is an alien?
Well it makes the same amount of sense as God being a god.

They're probably equally likely as well.

People make shit up to get attention and then unintentionally perpetuate magical thinking such as this since there is a driving urge in the human mind to come up with fantastical ideas for things that they don't understand. It's happened for thousands of years and will continue to happen as long as humans are human.

Get over it.

That's the thing. This was interesting, quality programming. I loved watching it, looking for flaws in their argument, but it was still a captivating show.

The Nazca animals are actually kind of awesome, they appear at the end of Assassin's Creed ^^

... Yeah I'm just proud because I recognized them :p

Anyway, History Channel/Discovery and the like are really more entertainment than fact nowadays right? Some of these old constructs (call them whatever you like) are kind of fascinating, but you shouldn't let any person with a beard go on TV to talk about them.

If you can believe in a god, or other divine being, then you certainly can believe in aliens too.

I can see how it kinda makes sense, seems more believable than a supernatural being, but that's just me.

You do realize, of course, that you were watching a show that's bias was toward that of the existence of extra-terrestrial life in the universe, and that all of the supposed "evidence" is going to be skewed?

Am I discounting the idea of aliens in the universe? No, not at all. As big as the universe is, with all it's billions of stars, I think it's naive not to give the idea some merit, but the pyramids? Come on. That's the lamest bit of "evidence" that they throw out.

Naw, God made us omnivores, who eat animals. If he built us in his image, then He's an omnivore too, meaning he eats meat, meaning he isn't a member of PETA.

It does make some sense, just like the theory that the pyramids were built as landing pads for giant spacecraft...

So what you are saying is...that if Unicorns are Omnivours....then GOD IS A UNICRORN!
A red unicorn.
