Depends what you mean by Halo, because there's the games and then there's the franchise. Personally, I love the games and really don't care too much about the merchandise (although the books and recent anime were actually very good), but the unprecedented success of Halo as a franchise has made it a big name, and a big target for people to rag on. As a result, people forget the fact that Halo is one of the most important game series of the last decade because it's mainstream enough to talk about in a pub without drawing funny looks. Gamers can be a funny bunch who complain about not being represented in mainstream media, but the rejecting virtually any game that breaks through into the mainstream.

This almost appears to be an attempt at trolling.

I'm indifferent, either way. It's just another game series.

Based on what I've played, it has it's advantages and disadvantages. All modern shooters are generally all right, they tend to follow the same formula with few extra adjustments.

So, uh, yeah. Not a big fan of that type of science fiction setting, I don't find it thought provoking and just having "evil guys" with no redeeming qualities bores me, but then again just about any game or book has those. Otherwise, it's probably okay. I'd even consider playing it multiplayer, except I don't own the game and am a PC gamer.

Edit: Don't know much about the books, but I generally try to avoid books spawned by movie or game franchises. In my somewhat shallow experience, it's more often just a shameless money grab with hack writers than anything good. But then again, it would be pretty inconsiderate to generalize so widely at this point. Although still, based on what I know about Halo setting, I doubt they would interest me.

I AM a big science fiction nut, but I prefer hard science fiction that focuses a lot on politics between conflicting cultures, often of alien nature to each other, with no clearly defined "right" or "wrong". Halo seems more like a war hero story, which isn't necessarily bad but not something I like to focus on too much.

I like Halo too. Never played Halo Wars or ODST, I have never read the books either. It's one of my favorite game series.

FOR THE HO---- oh, wrong setting.

Yes, I enjoy Halo. It's a fun game. Doesn't quite deserve the hype sometimes, but hey.

First halo was an okay time, but nothing to form a church and sacrifice a goat about. Most of the anti-Halo sentiments are in the form of hype backlash due to the franchise's ridiculous levels of popularity.

Though I couldn't care less about the franchise today, I can only see myself growing to hate it if the gaming industry as a whole decides to make nothing but needless Halo spin-offs and sequels until the end of time. Well...even then, I don't think I'd hate Halo as much as I'd hate the money-grubbing bigwigs in the industry who censor change and innovation in favour of profit. A post-apocalyptic idea, to be sure, but as long as people shell out for anything with a Halo logo on it, well...

As for how alone you are? Don't worry. You have a pretty massive legion of fellow Halo fans to keep you company. If you like playing online with homophobic assholes, anyway.

It's actually quite fun. If you treat it like a slightly more serious timespliters instead of like playing a game of socom 4 with Gigsaw, then it's great fun.

I don't regard it as the holy grail of gaming but I have a lot of fun with it. Especially in coop campaign. Actually come to think of it, any mode where you have friends to play with is a lot of fun.

No you are not alone.

I like Halo as well.

But threads like this are a bad idea.
Its just asking for a flamewar.
A flame war which i won't take part in and i advise everyone else to do the same. Not lecturing you or anything i just like responding to quotes
I understand.
Im just saying that this can attract some "annoying" people.

Anyway iv played them all and i thought Halo 3 was great.
Iv played the Reach Beta and loved it.
I'm really excited for Reach.
Can't wait for reach. Can't use proper grammar so exited.
One thing want with reach is the elite only have one armor ability and so do the Spartans. Why Not have a whole lot of exclusive AND on that subject i hope there are more armor ability's in the full game.
Also hope in the single player there are some levels for the elites, those level in halo 2 were really fun. Especially when you had the energy sword you feel like an unstoppable alien bad-ass.

Ah, the weekly Halo thread. Very well:
I loved Halo:CE. Halo 2 was okay, and Halo 3 was cool. Haven't tried Halo Wars, because I suspect it's total shit, or ODST because I feel the series came to a good halt story-wise in Halo 3.

I like the books, most of them are well written, a couple are...well, not.

It does bother me after reading the books though how Bungie is going through the Canon with an AXE with ODST and Reach

I buy the books, but I don't know if I'd call myself a "Halo Fanboy". I admit to its flaws, and I know it's not the best out there, but it's good, no doubt about it.

Well, if you're a fan of a game who hates the rest of the game's fan base, you aren't alone. I've kinda taken a liking to the Gears of War games, but for vastly different reasons than most. I don't think I would get along well with most other Gearheads.

Oh yea.
Im sure we will be seeing many more ability's and such once we get the full game.

I can see ability's along the lines of Energy/Health draining for Elites and
Speed/Shield/Damage boosting ability's for the Spartans.

And if there are Levels for the Elites ans Spartans then i will be happy, they were fun in Halo 2.

<--- Halo fanatic right here. After I was done with the games, I bought Legends and all the books to get the most out of the story. With all that added on, it's quite an epic.
