I have issues with girl gamers who expect to be treated differently. I don't really hold back on the trash talk with anyone, although I find compliments usually throw a girl off more than a guy.

It's just the leftovers of an odd stereotype that died out in the late 90s/early 2000s. All you need to do is work on getting over it. Trust me, I was the same way for a while too, but it's really easy to get past it.

No mercy, WOOP HER ASS!!! Years later after intensive therapy, when you're not dating, you can talk about what might have been if you'd gone easy.

I'd probably just say at the outset that you're a good player and if she wants you can use some bogus weapon. Apart from that there's nothing much you can do. Letting someone win can be fairly demeaning and if she catches on she'll either think it's adorable (probably not) or find it offensive (more likely). Good luck with it anyway.

I don't think it's wrong.
It's a stigma that many people have. If I'm playing a game online and I see a girl join, I myself am often surprised. I don't treat them different, mind you, but I'm still surprised when it happens.

But I think that has more to do with the rarity of the event, not the idea that girls don't or can't play games. They certainly can and do, but let's be honest here: It's a male dominated past-time. Girl are getting more and more involved in gaming, that's true, but no matter how you spin the numbers, I think it's obvious they are in the minority.
Pretty much this.

I most certainly have no issue with girls playing games, there are only two things that ever bug me though:

Firstly when every guy in the game decides to flirt with her, it makes me embarrassed to be a guy and to play games.

Secondly when they go out of their way to make sure everyone knows they are a girl who plays games, like when they put 'girl', 'gal' or 'grrl' in their name. Or when they have to put in their profile something along the lines of "I'm a girl gamer" or "Yes, I am a girl who playes games, get over it".

A player's a player to me.

That being said, a good player is a good player, and a bad player pisses me off.
this^. I treat girl gamers just like I do guy gamers, and will not go easy on them, especially since they want to be equal to men. I don't really feel different when a girl is in the room, in fact I feel happier, especially if they yell as much as I do when I'm getting owned. Unfortunately I haven't had the luxury of having a gamer girlfriend. Someday, maybe....

How do you guys feel about guys that play as female characters?
as i am one(a guy , not a female character) , I feel thatit's perfictly normal. My char in DnD is even a woman. It let's me adopt a differnt mindset, which is what roleplaying is all about.and in video games, it only an avatar. a bunch of pixels with boobs.I just can' see the issue

On Xbox live, it's truly a blessing when a girl starts playing (in my case). I mean, I always end up in matches against extremely young kids (no really.... they act like they just learned to talk), or extremely annoying jerks (you know the ones.... the ones that are losing but feel that they are the best in the world and will trash talk you just because they almost killed you). I haven't met any girl gamers that have fallen into those categorys. So no, I don't mind.

I have a small lingering concern with those who claim to be girls online and I will tell you why.

My younger brother consistently makes female characters so people will treat him better. When I see a 'girl,' my "trap" senses start tingling.

Besides that, no, no problems at all.

Sure it's okay, like me you don't not like girl/women gamers, (not like that you peeves), it's just not very common for you to meet one. Before I found my first girl gamer, a small part of my mind automatically went "WTF" when I found out they were a girl. To me a girl gamer was like a Million dollars, I know it exists I just have not seen it before. Since I have played with them more (you know what I mean) I got used to it. I think there is nothing wrong with women being in games, in fact teenager, I prefer it.
It?s also kind of funny to see how many people get bummed out by being defeated by a girl.

On an un-related note???. If any girl/women gamers reading this post want to play a match with me, my gamer name is my name here. (I?m so creative)

It will be my greatest test. I'll have to gather all my wits and...in...telligence?

This is exactly what the girls in my Games Design Class think when playing games. Wonder if all Girl gamers think like that.

Anyway most of the time I cant distinguish girl from 12 year old squeaky idiot who wont stop talking about how good his milkshake is. It only hits me when I see they're playing quite well because Women seem to have better concentration than Men. This fact directly hit me when playing with the Frag Dolls, one of the leading girl gamer clans, who literally owned me with there ability to function as a team which not many clans can do nowadays because they're mainly full of men. Glory hogging, I can do everything on my own, men. And I am one of them.

My girlfriend plays Grand Theft Auto, and was in fact describing to me the way she sits in a high spot with a roof, so she can snipe people below and blow their heads off, while the roof is there to protect from helicopters.

Asking her out was the best decision I ever made.
wow, you my friend have hit the mother fucking jackpot

OT: iknowwhat you mean, every girl i've encountered sucks at gaming so when i meet one that's good at gaming it doesn't fit into my brain

no i don't feel odd.
i'm more likely to answer questions, and less likely to get angry.
usually i just think it's funny to watch the other guy's reactions.
'thar is no girls on teh intrawebs.'
'pics or i don't believe you'
it's funny to watch, but no it doesn't really affect how i play.
couldn't get much worse any ways.
in FPS on the other hand. easy kills as people try and show her how to play.
even funnier when she knows how to play and starts slaughtering them.

I dunno, never really actually played with a girl that wasn't some little kid on Left for Dead.

Somehow I don't think I've ever really met a girl in online gaming.Well I think I met a french woman in Rainbow six Vegas 2, but the person had no mic so i'm not sure.

One day I shall find a girl online, and try to shoot her...

...Oh to dream...

When a girl joins vent I leave because the raid will consist of 20 horny teenage boys with boners just wanting to talk with her all the god damn time.
Rofl.

Girls in my old guild would get loot first, people would farm them pets for like 8 hours a day, send them gold, etc.

Hilarious.

Anyway, the only problem I have with girls is the reactions OTHERS have. It distracts other players, and with some people it ruins a competitive environment.

There's a girl on the QL CTF team I play with a lot, and since they/we are all mature-ish people, it's not a problem (until like a certain 2 people come on and then there's just penis/sex jokes and I feel like leaving. -.-; ).

Good stuff though, I don't mind anyones gender as long as they are skilled intelligent people, and I make no excuses for people either way, and some people think I'm too harsh on certain players "oh she's a girl go easy on her" etc, but no, we are all gladiators and that is that.
