I knew going into this topic that bringing something shocking and highly unusual was going to generate some "omg wtf hell no" responses. Sorry, you misunderstand me. When I say ignorance, I mean people are giving facts that arn't true. Just what they think are probably true. Which is ignorance. Opinion is not a matter of ignorance, but feigning an informed responce is not opinion; it's ignorant.

Sorry if you feel lumped in with the statement of ignorance. But there is a healthy dose of it swirling around here.

I want to get my tongue split.

Some would say that's really stupid, many might say gross. The idea is just so keen with me, that I can't help but return to it every once in a while. There's a handful of videos on youtube of people getting their tongue pierced, and testomonials seem to be positive from people that have had it done, and live with it.

My only concerns are if it ever comes up in the work place (I work at a bank), social repercussions (I'd pretty strange enough as is), and of course something going horribly wrong (this one almost doesn't register on my 'list' however).

It's on my mind alot lately, and I feel the need to talk about it. So, I've built a little poll. Also, I've put in some youtube videos. Now, be warned!! Tongue splitting is not for the feint of heart. I have two videos here, one is generally ok to look at. The other shows the process and might not settle well with everyone.

- I'm in my late 20's almost in my 30's.
- I'm female, so easy with the 'bros,' 'dudes,' and "you'll look like this guy."
- I've thought this over for a few years now.
- Tongue splitting is hard to notice unless you're actively staring at a persons tongue, and they stick it out. Disguise for a split would be simply not sticking the tongue out.
- I'd go see a medical practicioner, not a tattooist. So I would be in a medical environment.
- A medical setting utilizes pain killers, and a laser (not a scalpel. Risk becomes minimalised.

I'd be too much of a pussy to get this done, but more power to you if you want to get it. I know you're of the female persuasion, but this has to be said, it beats a bolt through the cock.

It looks pretty cool, and you may have a lisp for a while, but you'll learn to control it and that'll go away.

Like you've already stated, it's reversible, so if it's something you truly want, it makes you happy, and you're not getting it done just to follow a trend, then I say go for it. It's not hurting anyone else.

Tattoos are alright as a body mod. 90% of the time you can cover them up in required scenarios. Same goes for piercings, with the exception of a little dot where they used to be you're pretty safe.

Now, mods such as tongue splitting is where i personally draw the line. Not only is that something that most definitely is permanent but it says to anyone who sees it "i've commited myself to live the same lifestyle from now until the day i die" which is a flawed concept as we can never forsee how we're going to think about something in 10 or 20 years time.

If i were you i'd err on the side of caution and not get your tongue split. But since you made this thread, i can assume you've already made up your mind.

Just because you get your tongue split doesn't make you "unique" or a rebel, that's why most people do it and they end up regretting it because they realize there are millions of other people who have done the same thing. Thats what people used to think about tattoos and piercings and now both of those mean conformity? No, they are more meaningful than splitting your tongue ever will be.
