Sounds to me like you've already made your mind up on this. I think if it was me considering it I'd try a tongue piercing first to see how I felt about having the whole mouth dynamic changed. It will draw attention to you and I guess that's what you want. Don't do it purely for sexual reasons that is just idiotic and demeaning, you shouldn't have to change your body to please someone else.
This is an entirely selfish decision and you should only do what you want once you know the risks. Good luck with it.
(If it goes wrong just say you pissed off a yakuza boss)

If you really want to do it, then by all means go ahead. Its your body. Just make sure to have a serious think about beforehand, which no doubt you are.

Will it affect your ability to communicate? Will it prevent future jobs? Will it be really sore? I'm more than likely just repeating what others have said, but either way good luck.

I'm from a very open background, and I've known people who've got lots of piercings, and who like piercing weird parts of their bodies. But I'll be honest. The mere sight of the first video, the safe one, gave me a physically revolting feeling. That was a gut reaction.

The thing that gets me about this is that it's not natural. It's nice to make yourself different and stuff, but something this drastic is akin to self-mutilation. If it's legal and you REALLY want to create that reaction wherever you go, that's fine.

However, good luck getting a job looking like that. In an interview, appearance is everything, and anything that extreme will bring about extreme reactions. If you don't mind that, then fine.

Just don't brush me off as a naysayer. I'm not.

On a girl, i think that is sexy as hell. I am sure if you REALLY regret it, there is probably a way to fix it. If your place of work gives you trouble, lie. say you had a tongue ring that got ripped out. they can't fire you or give you shit for an accident.
and if YOU want it, do it. I regretted not getting my first tattoo sooner in life. people will always talk about how weird, gross, it is, blah blah blah. but others will say how cool it is.

Sounds like a random impulse that one day you just decided "I think i'll do this". But for once, someone decided to actually follow through with it.
At least you consulted the gods of all knowledge. You know what they say "100 heads is better than 2 tongues".
Well, I think that's how it goes.

I agree with George, you think it's cool now, but whe nyou get older, you will hate yourself, and people will mock you terribly.
Agreed. If you ever try going for a corporate job, it may be hard. I know a lot of people have to cover their tattoos, so not sure what you will do for your tongue.
is it really that bad with the tattoo business? would one on the chest or upper arms really have that much of an effect in a job interview?
Well, that depends. If they are visible during an interview in the corporate world, yeah, it may. If you are going to be interviewing as an artist for a development company, probably not. If you have tattoos everywhere and are interviewing at a bank, it's probably not going to happen.

So, it's not that tattoos, piercings, etc hurt in every situation, there are just some traditional and corporate jobs that will frown upon it.

i'm just thinking that for those kind of corporate environments, you'd have your piece(s) covered either how. executives usually wear suits, and i bet a person applying for a bank job would put on at least a blazer, covering the worst. by the time you're on the inside, i don't think people will mind.

i realize that you may not be able to give out information about this, but if you applied for a job at the escapist, would a tattoo have an effect on whether you got accepted or not?

I agree about covering up the tattoos and that will fly in a corporate environment, you are correct. I know a guy who wears a long sleeve shirt everyday because he has tattoos up and down his arms. It's just the way it is for his job but he doesn't regret getting the tattoos either. I think the people who are screwed are those that can't be covered up, like something on the neck or, if you are face-to-face with customers on a daily basis, facial piercings, strange contacts (one guy I saw had WHITE and it freaked people out) or a split tongue.

I'm not hiring anyone of course but I've seen it happen.

As for people at The Escapist, there are people here with tattoos :)

Im at work so I cants see the vids/pics in the OP but I've seen this before in a body mod documentary, and the finished result in a few magazines. I actually thought it looked pretty cool, not something I'd ever do myself; think the furthest I may ever go is a scarification mod, similar to some African tribes do, can look better than tattoos in my opinion

It's definitely an odd mod, extreme and not many people go for it. You say you've always wanted it, is that after seeing someone else with one, or have you just *wanted to split your tongue* for some time..?

Also, you're a girl, is there a sexual element to this as well? Can't imagine getting head off someone with 2 tongues!! (And stop sniggering at the back it's a valid question)

Anyway you've probably made your mind up by the sounds of the OP and I say go for it, if you've thought long and hard about it then do it. Your body, your tongue, your life

I got a tattoo, so saying getting your tongue split is kinda being a hypocrite, only my tattoo can be hidden easily, and means something to me. I don't see the meaning behind a tongue, only that you think it's cool. I agree with everyone, wait some odd years and if you still want to do it, do it. It'll be hard to get a job if you're fired or laid off with a split tongue, despite the rules in place to stop discrimination for appearance, it still happens. Plus you may regret it someday, thankfully I didn't have the same problem with my tattoo, but I got what meant something to me, so perhaps get a tattoo which means something, therefore you won't regret it later.

Really, there's nothing in this post that hasn't already been said more or less.

Tattoos, piercings, etc they aren't that bad because you can remove them or cover them up. This is COMPLETELY PERMANENT! And theres no way to hide it. Don't do this you'll regret it, maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow but someday and for the rest of your life.

Hahah! I like that! Hell, even if it goes well, I might use that. :)

I have. :) I'm just making conversation. (I even earned a very unexpected badge from it.) Now all I need is the guts to go through with it.

There are historic cases of this happening with tribes and rituals. I just can't recall which tribes right now. ^_^;; I didn't think Africa was involved, but that's cool too!

I saw a split years ago (it was also one done in a medical environment, so it looked alot better than the ones you see coming out of tattoo parlors). I was shocked, and amazed. At first, I denounced it as crazy. But I kept coming back to it, thinking, "that's actually kind of sexy." I think this was long before youtube.

Basicly, I think it's sexy. :)

Well, I read somewhere a while ago that sexually, a good tool becomes better. If you're awful, the better tool won't make you much better. :) It'd sure be interesting to try out, and it has crossed my mind. But no, it's not sexual. Just sexy... if that makes sense. :)

I've made up my mind in terms of wanting a split, but I'm all kinds of chicken sh*t. xD There's a good chance I'll wuss out.

So, what I've gathered is that you can't see it unless you physically grab your tongue and mess with it, it could piss off employers, and it could cause heart problems if done improperly.

Now, why do you want to get this done, again?
