Personaly I'd go foe a Fernadez Dragonfly + their brand picks.

The Dragonfly is much cheaper (£600), plays extremly well and has a sustainer drive system which is simply awesome. The picks are best I've ever used, they have grips and are built for speed.

Your comparison with sheet music and tab for example. This is unfair as tab is a lot more intuitive than manuscript. Someone looking at manuscript with no explanation is buggered, because there isn't really a clue as to where to start. Tab is a lot more obvious. It's easier to figure out without explanation. A lot of the time you see the string written besides the lines, and it's easy to figure out that the numbers refer to the fret, than to figure out which note is hich on manuscipt. Bit of an unfair comparison, because tab is a lot easier to read.
Wow.. Really?

90% of the tabs I've seen require you to hear the piece before you play it, because its just a bunch of numbers with no indication of timing, dynamics or feel. More than a few times I've played a song reading off sheet music that I've never heard before, and this isn't uncommon. Being able to read music is a pretty great idea if you intent to take music seriously (as in, make a career out of it). It makes you that little bit more hireable, something that'll set you apart from the others, it's also fuuucking important for session work.

I've always been more of an ESP / LTD kinda guy. I had an Ibanez and it was good, but I much preferred my LTD

I have an Ibanez Acustic/Electric guitar named Dolly. She has served me well. About three years old and gets good use. Though the fretboard smells like blood no matter how much I clean her.

My bass is just a standard Yamaha. Her name is Molly.

I love my guitars.

A good tab will have the rythm above. Though a lot of the internet ones don't. Power tab is good in this respect.

I'm not an Ibanez type of guitarist, I prefer Les Pauls and SG's. They are somewhat better overall, they're not just for shredding.

I wouldn't buy it. I'm not a fan of Ibanez at all. I already have my dream guitar (my Fender Jazzmaster). I guess Ibanez is more for metal, which is probably my least favorite genre of music.

No, I would not. I would get the 7 string steve vai model ibanez uv777 but that's because it suits my play style better. For metal heads you may want to look at 8 string baritone guitars made by ESP.

As a side note, never buy an instrument you haven't tried... that's just silly.

My personal dream guitar the original Manson Bomber, one of Matt Bellamy's guitars... looks and sounds awesome and it is quite literally one of a kind but again... I'd want to play it first.
Wouldn't we all want a Manson though??? They truly are works of art :')
A man can dream though, a man can dream....

I like Ibanez, I think it's good value for money. I doubt I'll own one myself though. My dream guitar is the Caparison Horus, which I recently found for sale (first time I've ever seen one for sale) for a good price, but the seller's been bid more than I'm willing to give at the moment. I also hear a lot of good things about PRS, which is also the guitars Opeth play. I also intend to acquire, at some point, a Fender Stratocaster HSS, with the flamed maple top. Either an American Deluxe, like my 5-string Jazz Bass, or a custom made one if I decide to use such amounts of money on it.

While Ibanez does make good guitars, I never really like them because everyone I played seemed cheep except for one of the prestige models he got for like 700.

However by saying you have interest in a 7 string I assume you play metal and if your playing metal or anything that involves shredding soloing and excessive distortion I suggest getting a guitar that has EMG's preferably the 81 and 85 combo.

I own a Washburn X-50 Professional I got for $500 (list price is like 1.2k) and its tone and sound is on par with some of my friends pricey guitars.

Interesting. I dislike EMGs for anything other than METAL!!!!!!!! I much prefer DiMarzio pickups (PAF Pro in the neck, Super distortion in the bridge).

Yea I must admit, EMG's arent to great if your using them for anything but metal. DiMarzio are good but if im not playing metal ill have to go with some nice Seymour Duncans. Oh that also reminds me seymour duncans blackouts are great for metal as well.

I love Seymour Duncan Screamin' Demons in a bridge position... that's what I'd want if I was just exclusively metal.

I use two PAF Pro pickups though... I mainly play Paul Gilbert-esque type stuff.

I'm not a metal shredding monster, so I don't really go for Ibanez. Don't need the tremolo, don't like the looks, not a fan of the sound either.

Here's what I'm all about really:

Got me one of those this summer. Always wanted one, and it didn't disappoint. Has a few Gibson signature Quality Control fuck ups, but they were easily fixed. Got a pretty good deal out of it as well, meaning I can probably sell it for profit, if I ever want to.

But anyways, it's hard for me to recommend anything to a guy who's nearly the polar opposite of me in tastes. If you really want that guitar badly, go for it. Guitars can always be sold.

I have an Ibanez. It's very nice. I don't play electric though.

EW20WNE, exotic wood series (cordia wood, to be specific) beautiful finish. Very mellow tone, very smooth kind of sound, which suits me just fine since I am a fairly mellow kind of guy.

its way too expensive if i was willing to spend more i would rather have mine custom built.
Alder body(swirled)
Brazillian Rosewood fingerboard 25.5" scale(vine of life inlay in mother of pearl)
Maple neck(reversed headstock)
Ibanez edge trem
Gotoh tuners
Stan hinesley viper pups(with a dimarzio true velvet in the middle)
RS guitarworks superpots with orange drop caps
stainless steel frets(the tallest ones of course)
but eh
this guitar would cost me my soul
