Wall of text, so...yeah...sorry XD

I have been a Call of Duty fan for quite a while. It's sad to see such a great series grow stale because of greed, though we are to blame as well (We're still buying this stuff guys). I recently watched footage of Modern Warfare 3 from E3, and honestly...I don't know what to think. This game had even less developement time than Black Ops. Modern Warfare brought Call of Duty into the spotlight. It deserves better. I don't know what to think because it seems like it's dead inside. An empty, soulless shell. It's like meeting a nice girl, falling in love with her, and then she has to move away. You still talk to her, but it's not the same. It tears both of you apart. She gets mixed up with drugs, alcohol, etc. You meet her years later. You're happy to see each other, but she's not the same, sweet person you knew years ago,but part of her is still alive in there. Sadly, you know she'll never be the same. (Sorry about that XD)

A little more before I get to the friggin' point:

Modern Warfare is known for it's "shocking" moments.

COD 4: The bomb scene. It didn't really bother me that much, but only because a friend spoiled it for me.

MW2: The airport. We all heard about this. When I saw it, I was actually moved. It got to me on an emotional level. I played through that level, and I still got that powerful feeling, but it wore off after a few playthroughs (What? I have to relieve stress somehow XD).

Now we have MW3. I know it seems stupid and odd, but that one small and insignificant part in the beginning of the demo in which you swim through a flooded Lincoln Tunnel with dead bodies stuck in the cars, THAT scene, that one THIRTY SECOND scene, was powerful. Not just because I'm a New Yorker (Plus, I live outside of the city, although not too far away), but because it just WORKED. It showcased the horrors of warfare, which was the goal of the other moments I described. The rest was painful. I mean, it looked cool and everything, and I'm sure it will be fun. It IS Call of Duty, after all.

My point:

Modern Warfare, no...Call of Duty still has the potential to bring itself back to greatness. The milking of a series is a sad thing. I just feel that with more developement time, this could be the next great game in the series. I liked every game since COD 4. Hell, I REALLY liked Black Ops, but I recognize that it's going downhill. I don't want that. No fan wants that. The death of a series is a sad thing. I was sad when they "cancelled" Duke Nukem, and I never even PLAYED a Duke Nukem game. Great games take time. I recall on Extra Creditz (which you should all totally watch) it was once said that a REALLY good quality game takes 3 to 5 years of developement time. I think that's true, and a good game can restore a series. hell, I have faith that Halo 4 can be good XD. I mean, it's been almost 5 years since the last MAJOR title (Talking about Halo 3. Loved Reach, by the way) So I've been thinking...I must ask you, fellow Escapists...

If Modern Warfare 3 was given more developement time, would it restore your faith in the series? Would you buy it?

Also, when discussing the Call of Duty series, this is always necessary, so I'll get it out of the way now, William Shatner style:

KOTIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The only thing preventing me from buying it is the lack of dedicated servers. I'm not going through that again.

Absolutely not. The brown gritty shooter thing has been done to death. Activision (and everyone else) need to just stop making them for a while. Release some totally different games, put the goddamn shooters on the back burner for a while. We've had a decade of shooter after shooter after shooter. Time for a decade of something else.

Eh, I'll be buying MW3 no matter what.

Loved the campaign in MW2 and can't wait to see what crazy awesome stuff they come up with next.

The only downsides I'm seeing to the short turnover times are the short campaign lengths and the lack of focus on post launch support.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
I doubt it, I mean really the game went from somewhat grounded to just batshit crazy so I dont care about the story at all anymore and while the gameplay is probably fun, there are just other things I would rather play

No, because 2 years + of more development time won't stop Activision from attempting to milk the franchise further with CoD Elite [http://www.callofduty.com/elite].

No, it doesn't matter how long they develop a brown shooter, it's still going to look the same as every other brown shooter. If they did something cool or innovative with it yeah, but this is a long dead franchise being milked for money.

i would buy call of duty if it came out tommorow seeing as mw2 was the best multiplayer game of all time and had one of the best single players off all time also this one will be even better because they fired the guys that were going to make it worse

Welcome to The Escapist, the gaming community that has what is quite possibly the most polar opposite opinion possible to what you just said.

OT: I would only buy it if they actually tried to make it a new game. If they don't make the campaign have a decent story and actually have some variety, not to mention it being of decent length, then I won't buy it. If they keep the same broken multiplayer mechanics that have caused many a gamer holes in their walls due to rage-filled punches, then I won't buy it. If they actually decide to give their game a unique look to it, instead of the extremely boring brown/black/gray/green palate they've stuck with (I'm not saying they need a TF2/Halo/Borderlands-style revamp, just SOMETHING to make it stand out), it's not the end of the world, but it will kind of persuade me not to buy it.

I'll rent it, though. Just to finally finish the story and play the new Spec-Ops missions.

I'm sure it will be fairly well made regardless of the development time. The Call of Duty series always surprised me with their high quality/low development time ratios.

maybe.
the set-up looks interesting (kicking off WWIII) and if they would spend one year of those two years on a solid SP I might buy it.
also how long is MW3 in development now? a few MONTH,S if I remember correctly I bought 7 in November of 2010 that,s about 7-8 month,s!

I'm buying it regardless. I'm a fan of the MW series, not so much the other CoDs, but I intend to pay money for a sequal to a game that I spent over one hundred hours playing in Multiplayer.

If MW3 was given 2 more years, it'd be MW 4. Get over it ppl, if the games are getting stale, stop buying them. Lot's of ppl LOVE COD and the MW series. don't like = don't buy. Simple math.

Black Ops was made by Treyarch, which is a completely different developer. MW2 was the previous iteration released in November of 2009.

Ehem..I have talked about his with my friend a lot.I played MW a while after it came out and it was great it took some minor risks games just didn't do before and was on a subject they haven't covered. But then MW2 came along and i really didn't like it.I mean call of duty 1 was good and wasn't the same old medal of honour over and over. But there was no need for MW2 and the probable was it made loads and that encourages them to make more of the same. They really aren't original and i think are afraid to make something original, like play as Germans/Russians , maybe haybe have a game based in WW1 and they took far to long to cover Vietnam(yes i know its a touchy subject)and the game play its just point and shoot, and i think that is ok for some games and the earlier ones seem to require more thinking. But there are just being really lazy. Also i think it gives gaming a bad name, i mean the biggest same franchise is a pile of shit.I've got very online shooter weary these last while and don't care for them ,but they do have potential. What about a game where your escaping Warsaw and protecting your kids(your a woman)and travelling to Switzerland, stealth based less encounters and maybe survival, but no one will do that because they won't risk losing the money.
