I don't know if "more widely accepted" really is an indicator of "stronger economy", especially in the pseudo-terrorist Dictatorship of the Galactic Empire. Accepting a currency and being afraid to reject it for fear of having your homes and families burned (and/or planet blown up) are completely different issues. (I assume that's what you mean by "military buildup")Dancingman said:The Galactic Empire: A human-centric militaristic state governed by the Emperor and his cadre of advisors and governors. The Empire is a ruthless, expansionist government hell-bent on keeping its hold on power. However, despite its ruthlessness, it serves a function not unlike the Roman Empire in history. While the Republic credit had been a weakened currency rarely accepted outside of the Galactic Core, the Imperial Credit that replaced it was ubiquitously accepted throughout the Empire, obviously indicative of a stronger, improved economic situation under the Empire (probably stimulated by military buildup)...
Their officer uniforms are pretty awesome looking. The only downside is if you mess up you get killed by a higher ranking officer, unless you're under Thrawn who encourages creativity even if it fails. He was the smartest and more successful officer in the history of the Empire. Still, I'd have to pick being on the Empire. I'm a Human and many aliens in Star Wars freak me out. I guess it's just for meThe Amazing Tea Alligator said:Easily Galactic Empire. I like the uniforms more, and something tells me that Stormtroopers can aim a little better than as shown on the box.
This is my ringtone for a few people, so yes I voted for the empire. They just look cooler overall. Plus I bet we could buy off most the people that choose merc and outnumber the rebel scum.SnootyEnglishman said:The Empire of course. They have the best theme music.
You know I'm not even being remotely serious in saying that I would join the Empire solely because of the cool uniforms and/or theme songs right? But actually in Star Wars canon the galactic economy was pretty strong under Palpatine. I'm not so sure about your point about there being no freedom in the Empire, it was relatively "live and let live in regards to social policy during its reign. They'd come down on anyone who committed what they defined as treason or dissent like the wrath of God and there was certainly a cult of personality regarding the Empire and plenty of propaganda to go with it, but you're still talking about a strong, centralized government (as much as it can be on such a scale) with a strong economy. All in all, strong economy, a government that's only somewhat obtrusive provided you pay your taxes and don't break any laws isn't too bad of a deal if all it asks is to not rebel and deals with it swiftly and efficiently if such a thing occurs? I'd take that over the ineffiicient, decadent mess that the Republic became.2xDouble said:I need to dissect a specific point here...I don't know if "more widely accepted" really is an indicator of "stronger economy", especially in the pseudo-terrorist Dictatorship of the Galactic Empire. Now for the anti-Communism tripe: Would you be so quick to make the decision if you truly knew what it felt like to have no freedom (and don't give me that "I'm a kid, I have no freedom" bull)? Are cool guns, shiny outfits, and badass theme music really worth giving up literally everything else? Think about that for a few minutes...
Needless to say, I choose the Rebellion. Not just because they're the "good guys", or because they win in the movies (eventually). But because, like Rome, the Empire would eventually have collapsed in on itself, and I don't like waiting around for it. (political euthanasia, heh)
I'd come see you play in a heartbeat.Lizardon said:Any group? I'd join the Cantina Band.
