Life Guards.

All they do is make sure that stupid and careless people stay in the gene-pool.

Also, I don't want to stop Soldering. I quite like my electrical circuits to stay together..

Oh, for the love of - those are all either reasonable or necessary.

Soldier? Fine, let's have no soldiers. Then we'd have civilians waging wars instead.

Prostitution? Get over yourselves, sex sells and if they wanna sell it, let em.

Politics? Can we forget the stereotyping for a minute and remember that politics is, I quote, "Politics is a process by which groups of people make collective decisions." IT'S FRIGGING DEMOCRACY, POLITICS IS WHY WE AREN'T LIVING IN ANARCHY!

Marketing? That's just getting you interested in a product, if you're stupid enough to buy something that you don't want or need, purely because of marketing, you deserved to lose your money.

Law Enforcement? Yeah, I'm not even going to answer that one. At least most people were smart enough not to vote for that.

Tax Collectors? The reason you can afford to have so damn much is because you have a government that can provide it. They can provide it because of the steady flow of cash.

If this wasn't a serious thread, I apologize, but I got the feeling that it was.

EDIT: ****ing psychics. In no decent civilized world should these people be allowed to claim theirs is a legitimate practice. The world would unquestionably be a better, safer, more wholesome place without them.

And child-prostitution-ring-leaders. Whatever you call them. If that's even a profession. Safe to say the world would be better without them to.

For me, I'd make my decision based on intent. Some people go into jobs because they feel they can make a difference, that they want to good.

Soldiers wanting to protect their country
Politicians wanting to improve their country
Police want to protect the public
ok, tax people and prostitutes not so much, but in the end they're both providing an important service in society.

Marketing tho, imagine it all went away overnight, suddenly things are not designed by commitee to tick boxes to sections of the public, just made to be good instead, opinions of services and products are spread by public word of mouth, therefore allowing the good to rise and the bad to sink without trace, I'm not seeing many downsides.

Marketing, with children as the target audience, should be illegal. Children are highly impressionable and exploitable, you can make them believe almost anything, making the deception inevitably involved in selling a product/service even more abominable.

Executive. The abstraction of business to the point where people effectively do nothing all day long and make millions of dollars a year for it.

Can't I just vote corporation? Or any business that extends across state lines?

I am unsure about removing any profession within our society. Many professions are around because there is a purpose for them or our society has evolved in such a way that makes them necessary. If they ever become unnecessary, society itself will remove them in time.

Marketing, especially those annoying rapid fire advertisements on the radio in the morning.

Even though I don't agree with it, I'm surprised noone has mentioned preists (or some church position) yet.

One that I don't believe has been said yet... fashion designers. The time they don't spend making ridiculous has fashion clothes that noone can feasibly wear in every day life, they spend trippling the price of any item of clothing they put their name on. I've seen your basic t-shirt in a shop for £30 just because it had a designer label.

None of the Answers work, because all of them take extremely shallow minded opinions.

Soldiers- Doesn't get rid of terrorists and militia, What the hell are we suppose to do?

Prostitution- A last resort for most of them, you just took it away

Politics- You watch to much television if you think that they are all corrupt.

Marketing- Tricks people out of money my ass, you will all be involved in marketing one day, which is half of the reason you have money in the first place

Law Enforcement; See "politics". Most of the people who want them out are the people who have something to hide.

Tax Collectors: Hell, you live there, you get to pay. I reality, I would most likely choose this one.

Anything related to sexual aspects occurring between the same gender. Which translates to no gayshit.
You must be the first person on this site that is actually against homosexuals.

I have no comment, just laughing to myself.

Marketing. No more marketing, no more shitty commercials making me want to kill myself.
But don't commercials like Old Spice redeem the entire industry?

law enforcement because i believe as a society we don't need to be told what's right and wrong by the blunt end of a weapon. We could govern ourselves with the knowledge of consequence for our actions via the people and not the elite.

Hmm...
I actually have a few I think we can afford to lose:
Soldiers, Politicians, Contract Lawyers, Insurance Salesmen, Telemarketers, and the Anti-New-Media Campaigners that seem to pop up every damn time a new artistic/entertainment medium arises (see plays, novels, comic books, and of course, video games).

I am absolutely delighted that there are many people out there who hate marketing executives as much as I do. They're the boil on the ass of a business school.

I wouldn't even call their work a "profession". It's monkey work and to elevate it to the same level as accountants, attorneys, and doctors (who go to actual "professional schools") is to insult real honest work.

(sorry Spinwhiz!)
What about football players?

Either way, marketers make a ton of money for easy stuff. Care for 'em? Nah, but I certainly want to be one.

And for me, I would say... the news. In general. All of it, just gone. Sure we wouldn't know about things we might want to know, but we also wouldn't have misinformed idiots spouting their opinions left and right about what they think is going on in the White House even though the news doesn't even tell you half of what's really going on there (mostly because they don't know themselves) and we won't have constant updates about whatever stupid celebrity break ups or Tiger Woods.
