I would change the genes to straight not that I have things against gays but I want to have things in common with my son and I don't know any gay/camp people who like football.
You realize, homosexuality has nothing to do with tastes in what the like/dislike. I know homosexual men to like football.
Of course not, obviously all homosexuals are the flamboyant effeminate type.

Fuck, why do people still think like this?

For me, it comes back to 'nature vs nurture'. Their genes say they might be gay but they will still have some degree of choice, as shown by twin studies which shows that even with identical genomes, they have only a little above 50% chance of both being gay when raised seperately. Shown again by the fact that if you have older brothers you're more likely to be gay, which has nothing to do with your genes. But genes do have a high influence over your orientation, I agree. So whilst their choice might be influenced, it's still a choice.

I wouldn't change the genes.

Hey, I'm bisexual! What shall I choose? <.<

EDIT: Okay, I chose "Straight and wouldn't change", because I'm in love with a girl at the moment.

The hypothetical me based on the real world: Wouldn't touch. Wouldn't ask the orientation. Wouldn't ask to even know the kid's gender. Would want to know if he inherited any terrible diseases, but that's about it. Life is a surprise.
Real world me: Not going to have kids anyways, most likely.
Hypothetical me that likes to be a dick to his hypothetical children: Change them just because I can. Then see if I can change the gender. Then come up with some really stupid name for him/her anyway. Finally, when they have some gender-id issues when they are teenagers, tell them about how horribly I messed with them just for the fun of it. Then, I'll probably get arrested by child services for being a dick.
Man, I hate my hypothetical children

I would change it to straight.
Would I hate my kid if he/she was gay? No. I just want the best possible life for my child and I think gay people have it rough.

Why? Just because I feel it should be that way. I don't approve of Homosexuality, but as long as you aren't a flamer, you know, a "HEEEEYYYYYY GUUUUYYYSSS!" kind of gay, then I'm fine with you.

All Homosexuals who were offended by this post: Sorry.
I'm sure you'll find plenty of homosexuals who get pissed off by gay men who play into that stereotype too.
Yup. If you are just a regular dude, don't wear pink, don't cross your legs, and don't flick you wrist, your fine with me.

In other words, if you are a normal guy, that just happens to like penis, then all is well.

Sexuality isn't something in your genes. If that was the case the so called "homosexual" gene would've died out ages ago.

And no, I wouldn't change it.
http://www.livescience.com/health/080617-hereditary-homosexuality.html
All of what is written in there is pure theory, not fact. And the head researcher even admits that most probably human sexuality is determined by a number of factors, not just genetics.
firstly, why did you have your name de capitalised?, that is like getting spayed man.

secondly, all that is written is probably the best in terms of science when is comes to homosexuality, I'm lucky in that I have a best friend that is gay and any gayers we meet all say the same thing "always liked the same sex".

You can't say that its a choice when the choices they made to start with was same sex?, its pre built into their being and who they are, whether its genetic or not is an argument for a different day.

Take the Frisco argument for example, the gayers get shipped out to Veitnam and then get shipped back for being pansies to the port of Frisco, so the gay HQ becomes that place... and rainbow flags fly high throughout the Gay City (sorry, the Bay City)... now the war with the Red is far from over but the gayers still thrive in Frisco, is it because the gay enviroment made them that way?, possibly.. but why did the city become so gay, the enviroment back then wasn't the same was it?.

I attempted to make a valid argument but I made no sense.

And there was much rejoicing!

I wear pink, brings out my eyes, and I cross my legs because its rude and poor etiquete to show the soles of your shoes to someone when you do the manly cross legged thing.

Eight people voted for "I am straight and I would change the genes to be straight".

Disgusting.
Don't jump the gun there buddy, not all of those people are nessarily homophobes, some of them might have other reasons for their choice.
Examples:
Want children with the same genes.
Don't want their children to be picked on for their orientation.
Maybe they just want that awkward father-son moment where you go to the mall and check out women and the father is really vocal, but the son is embarrassed and constantly saying "Dad people can hear us." and "Dad people are looking at us."

Who knows?

Homosexuality isn't genetic...neither is a choice...
It has a basis in both...
Like most things your are predetirmined to have a higher CHANCE of something.
Genetically some people are more likely to be gay than others.
However the way they are brought up and the way they grow also defines this.
It's really just another angle on the nature/nurture debate...

i don't believe for one second i was born gay...
however i don't think i have much choice either.
I was brought up in an open minded family, with open minded friends and when the 'gay tendancies' of my personality began to show i was in an environment that allowed it to flourish.

Genetics are irrelevant. All the matters is raising those kids in a way that can be whoever they want.

I would view this the same way i veiw screening for learning disabilities or disease's. With the possible exception of those rare cases where continuing with the pregnancy/birth brings a high level of risk to both mother and child, it is irrelevant.

I am a bisexual female and I would leave the kid the way it was. My girlfriend and I have already discussed kids, and although both of us would like a little lesbian to nurture, we would also be fine with whatever, because kids are kids and we'd love them regardless.

However, I don't blame anyone who chose to make their kid straight for reasons of bullying or safety. If that was possible, I could completely understand that decision.

Yeah I know, I'm just picking out your comment because of you wanting to forcefully change a child's orientation.

This is one of those "pro choice" versus "pro life" arguments in all but name, taking the ability to be your own person as you grow up because the previous generations beliefs, its pretty poor and makes me despair for the human race when I think about too hard.

Luckily for me, I don't think that hard.

Despite the fact that your sexual orientation is a choice, and not genetics-based, we'll play this game.
The amount of ignorance in this thread is shocking.

If sexuality is a choice, then tell me: did you people choose to be straight? I don't think you did.

Your hormones kicked in and suddenly the opposite sex was a lot more interesting than it used to be. It's the exact same for homosexuals. Except when their hormones kick in it's the same sex that they start finding themselves interested in. Oh certainly, some of them may think they're attracted to the opposite sex at first, this most likely just being a combination of peer pressure and conservative societies indoctrination that straight is the normal and correct way.

Sexuality is not a choice. Really, I have trouble thinking why someone would choose homosexuality if it were a choice, because of all the ignorance and hatred they would face, even in this modern and apparantly civilised world.

And to answer the OP. I'm straight, and the thought of altering my baby in such a way would never even cross my mind. And quite frankly, the people that have said they would do such a thing disgust me.

Straight, because otherwise, the child will more than likely have to go through critcism and teasing. I wouldn't want them to go through that.

Huge ass post
Never said it was a choice, but I am weary of the claim that it's genetic.

Secondly, San Francisco (I'll assume you're talking about SF, your post was kinda all over the place) was/is gay and full of gay men because it has historically been an enviroment more accepting of homosexual practises. Most gay men who live and lived there were migrants from other more religious and socially conservative states who came there so that they could meet more men like themselves and lead a happy openly gay life.

And my name is fine as it is.

People get picked on for being a different race, religion, etc. If you could, would you change any of those?

Basically, they want a kid they can relate to? Good fucking luck.
