I wouldn't. It's not the fact that no one would miss a penny (because I don't care about other people's issues), it's the fact that I would have just stolen tens of millions of dollars. Whether it's from one source or billions, it does not matter. Not to me.
I'm not a thief; I'd rather get that amount of money legitimately or not at all.

Is there any way to not steal from all the really poor countries? Over there, a penny really would be a noticeable amount of money. Everywhere else, I doubt people will care too much about one penny.

1) No I wouldn't.

2) It wouldn't be just one cent. It would be millions, possibly billions of dollars in damages. How you ask? Many bank accounts and transaction systems are setup to be exact. Take a cent away and you have lots of problems, namely: canceled transations, bounce fees, confusion, lost-man hours, gained-man hours (more money spent) on workers tracking down the problems, etc. You wouldn't just be innocently and harmlessly pillaging a penny from everyone. You would be causing a lot of grief and damage to a lot of people world wide. It would be a terrible crime.

3) People would notice. Like one in every three I would say, would notice. Lots of people live paycheck to paycheck. Lots of people put EXACTLY what they need to in their bank. If you drive to the bank, deposit $15.00 and check your account the next day and see 14.99, you're going to have questions if you wanted to purchase something that cost $15.00.

This thread shows me that not many people actually thought this through before they just said "yeah sure why not". It possibly shows how many people on this thread pirate.. :)

Lol, you guys really think people in the third world would miss a penny? Even to them it wouldn't be worth much. From my experience you need 25 pennies just to buy a gumball, maybe 50 could get you a small bar of chocolate. What could 1 buy that would be so life altering?

I'd do it. I'd be screwing over the extreme poor, but the world's pretty much doing that already.

Yes I would. As long as it's all directly transferred to my bank account. And I'd raise the stakes higher and steal the equivalent of £5 from everyone, even if it's all they have. Then the £35 billion pure profits will all be spent on good causes, including creative and manufacturing industries, political philanthropy, and investment in space travel (after spoiling myself silly with a few palaces, helicopters, and luxury yachts of course).

I don't know, my usual question to test if something is right is "if everyone in the world did this, would the world be a better place?" So if everyone on Earth did this, then...well, actually we'd all just end up with the same amount of money. :p

I wouldn't mind taking a penny from each American for a cool 3+ million, but a lot of people coulnd't even part with a penny, especially considering the value of a dollar compared to some other currencies.

Defiantly, those pennies always add up. My friends laugh at me since if I spot one on the ground I always pick it up.

You're talking digital, I'm pretty sure most people have a penny under the cushions in their couch or change jar. They would be a lot less likely to notice and it would have no effect on whats in the bank.

I would, sure. I'm usually VERY against stealing, but mostly because I know that being stolen from sucks. If it's just one cent from everyone, then no one is losing anything worthwhile for me to gain, so sure. Anyway, here in Australia, the lowest coin is a 5 cent coin, so I wouldn't feel guilty for taking one fifth of that.

Yes, then I'd donate half of it to various charities while using the rest to secure my way through school and helping my family out.

Yes, without reserve. I've tried grinding for pennies and find it insufferable. A good old-fashioned money exploit would be fine by me.

There are a lot of places in the world where a single cent is a considerable amount of money. If it was from everyone in the western world I'd have no issues, but I don't think I could live with myself if I was making masses of peoples lives harder.

Probably. I've always thought of morality in terms of results, so although I would be stealing from a large number of people, I think the good I could do with the money would outweigh any negative effects from it. I don't really get the people who say things along the lines of "stealing is wrong". To me, it's far more wrong to have the opportunity to easily help millions of people and refuse it.

There are parts of the world where a quarter a day is the going wage. May still seem minor, but that'll add up to alot of damage when you consider justhow many people that would be.

70 million dollars is a helluva good deal. And one cent from everyone? Hopefully that means the equivalent of 1 Canadian penny. Though, that could end up being like 1000 local dollars in one of the less fortunate countries.

It'd be better if I could decide what countries to avoid and which not to. But assuming that the idea is that the amount of money is so tiny in any currency/economy that it wouldn't be missed, then I would do it in a heartbeat. Hell, I'd likely do it if it meant a penny solid value. Because I'm evil.
