isn't black like impossible.

black can't be light, otherwise it wouldn't be light.

Red's where its at man. Vader had one.
Every Sith has a red lightsaber.
Well, ok Grievous didn't if you could count him as a "Sith."

As for me, I'd have to say two lightsabers; red and blue...put them together and what do you get...purple rain motherf***er!

The unlockable saber in Force Unleashed is surrounded by a white aura, but the way I conceived the black lightsaber is that the blade absorbs light around it, rather than emitting light, giving it a black core and an aura of eerie shadow.

Anyway, OT:

I'm pissed. There should only be one vote in the "black" slot. Mine. I was the first to use a black lightsaber, almost two years ago, before Force Unleashed came out, revealing it's unlockable black lightsaber.

Damnit, I like being unique.

In no way would I use a black lightsaber. i mean, what if your in a dark room and you need light? What if it's pitch black and you can't see? I've seen SW and the way they throw those things around leads me o believe that if they couldn't see the damn things, they'd proly be in pieces by now.

...of all the bad guys, Darth maul was the most awesome.
Really?
He was so friggin' one-dimensional.
The only cool thing about him was his two-bladed lightsabre.

Purple with a black handle.

Seriously though, how can the light/blade be black?

Given that the color is completely arbitrary (save for the Sith/red connection, I'd go with light blue or gold. Either would complement my favorite suit and tie (which I would definitely wear if I had to go saber some people).

Green because I'm more of the Conuslar/Jedi Master kind of jedi if you go by KOTOR II.

But, My favorite color is blue so I'm torn between the 2 choices.

I go by Kotor classing too, so I'd probably be green as I lean towards the Consular class. In terms of technique I would actually prefer to use two, one green and one blue: my class and my fave colour. Seriously, blue lightsabers are just that perfect shade of powder blue...

Depending on the time period - the colors are largely meaningless and don't have any actual connection to any one side, fighting style, etc. The color is determined by the focusing crystal - so you are either going to use what's on hand, seek out a specific kind to replicate the color for specific reasons, use something that's meaningful to you or as they are imbued with the force as part of lightsaber creation there does appear to be some degree of color based on personality - think mood ring.

Around 4,000 BBY, lightsaber crystals were used to indicate a Jedi's chosen class. Blue indicated a Jedi Guardian, a Jedi who used the Force on a more physical level. Green indicated a Jedi Consular, a Jedi who preferred to ponder the mysteries of the Force and fight the dark side at its heart. Yellow indicated a Jedi Sentinel, a Jedi who honed their skills in a balance of combat and scholarly pursuits.

This distinction fell out of practice in later years when most Jedi used blue or green crystals, based on the supply on the various source worlds. Purple, yellow, and orange crystals were still used by some Jedi until the the fall of the Jedi Order, but they were exceedingly rare, and often passed down through generations. The Galactic Empire banned trade and possession of all lightsaber crystals. [footnote]http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Lightsaber_crystal[/footnote]
