I weep for society, I really do!

I'm glad I have Batman, Superman, Flash and Spiderman on my side. The Justice League would be very upset with the lot of you.

Where are your ideals? When did it become cool to be a murdering psychopath?
Welcome to the GTA generation...

Personally I can't stand the Mark Millar, Frank Millar and to a lesser degree Garth Ennis world of comics right now. All the idealism and fun are gone from the mainstream and all has fallen into darkness and decay.
Amen brother. I'm going to put on some old reruns of the Justice League to remind myself of true heroes! I blame Marvel. They popularised the murdering heroes: wolverine, iron man, punisher, The Ultimates in general. Its never cool killing in DC. Up the Justice League!

If I had superpowers I don't think I could resist the temptation to kill the rapists and murderers and such in the world, just because they are such assholes.

Actually I'd blame Brian Michael Bendis, he's the one behind all of marvel's recent crazyness.

... and Mark Millar, he was behind The Ultimates, Ultimate X-Men and Civil War.

Still dude, didn't you read Identity Crisis? DC has gotten screwed up as well.

The only good Super Hero comic that still feels like a book about Heroes is Robert Kirkman's "Invincible"

EDIT: Although Jim Shooter is writing The Legion for DC and Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning have picked up Guardians of the Galaxy for Marvel, so maybe there is some hope. Also JMS is still working in comics for the time being, as long as he's around the idealistic super hero will never truly die.

The problem is that you're still living as a 60's-80's idealist. Once the internet showed up at large in the 90's and granted people the power to actually view the world at large in all its corrupted glory that idealism was quickly thrown out the window in favor of extremism. There's no fighting it. Just accept it. Even vigilantism is a form of extremism that all your super"heroes" are guilty of.

Weakness and apathy are the signs of an individual who has lost his own hope. Viewing the corruption of the world only makes it more important than ever to be idealistic. Innocence in the face of horror is the only way humanity will move forward. Strength is not in bending to the times; it's in maintaining your idealism despite of them. Virtues of Duty and Clemency do not become redundant because society strays from them, they become more important.

There is a thin line. There always will be a thin line, because people will always cross it. Do they do it because they don't see it? Maybe. I'd like to think that some people are misguided, but I can't help but think some people are just power hungry.

I would be lying if I said I don't want power, but I don't want power just for the sake of having power (that, by definition, is evil; if you don't belive me, go play Devil May Cry 3 again), but for the people who can't or won't defend themselves.

Is murder an option? Yes. Always. When you have that much power, you have to have that option. Would I use it? That's a much harder question. Generally speaking, no, I wouldn't. That's not my right. I don't know all the facts, I don't know what forced a person to what. But...if a person can and will do nothing but cause harm to society, then yes, lethal force would be viable. I wouldn't like it, and it would leave a sickly taste in my mouth, but I would do it. There are some people who just cannot be redeemed.

That's not to say any murderer, thug, or rapist would be subject to my wrath, just people who cannot or will not be redeemed.

Could I walk that line? I don't know. But I would sure as hell try.

Apologies if I seem overly optimistic. Really, it's because I am.

Before you blame Marvel, look towards Watchmen. Alan Moore and Frank Miller popularized the anti-hero. I've read reprints of the issues of Spiderman with the Punisher and he is portrayed as a villain.

OT: I'd probably fall somewhere between Rorschach and the Punsisher. I would avoid killing except for people who really deserved it, but otherwise I would beat the shit out of criminals.

Hahah. Are you a comic book writer by any chance? You should probably stay inside your basement and keep to posting on the internet where the big bad world of corruption and lost idealism won't hurt you. Get help.

this questions reminds me of the comic blacksun. I personally would kill criminals for rape, murger and ect, however I might get power hungry and might attempt to take over the world after I start destroying petty criminals who ust don't learn their lesson. However it depends on what really happens and how I'd get the powers. Perhaps I'll not become power hungry, fighting for a reason of somekind or become a villain and have to be killed to save the world.

Easy there. Alan Moore said he designed Rorschach to be detestable, it was people that read heroism into him. Admittedly I actually side with at the end, not because of his previous actions but just the "one more body amongst the foundation" line. There is a moral line, he draws his differently to me, but there is a line.

Nope. I'm a political lobbyist. I work for big business trying to ease their legislation and regulations through government. Trust me, I've probably seen more corruption in the upper echelons of western government than most people on the forum.

That makes my idealism harder to hold and more valuable.

I'll just keep reading my Astro City collections, Kurt Busiek knows how to write both heroes and villains without succumbing to pessimism. A remarkable feat for a guy dying from Mercury Poison.

I wouldn't be a superhero. I'd be a villain. If i'm faster, stronger and generally loads better than everyone else, my morals are going out the window.

Actually, I have another question for the folk here?

Would you want to be the only super powered being on earth (you're considerably Stronger, Tougher and Faster than anyone else)?

I know I wouldn't, that much power would corrupt me.
