We have totally awesome prosthetic legs right now, with even better ones right around the corner, logic dictates that choosing the leg would be the smart decision.

I would pick the arm because you can always use the other one with minor difficulties and then after I pressed the button I remember that you can use a prostate in case of the leg (I know it exists fore arms to but the one fore legs sames a bit better)so I change my mind and pick leg.
You must have already been quoted about this so I'm sorry for doing it again but, prostate instead of prosthetic is a fantastic misuse of wordage. Moving around using your prostate sounds pretty darn painful to me :D

As for arm vs leg, depends on the person. How important is movement to him? How important is tool manipulation to her? Where abouts is the limb gone from? Below the knee/elbow or above? Below the shoulder/hip or has that gone too? Bleh whatever, my natural choice would be to hack off the leg.

Neither. I would obviously have no choice, and since my free will was taken I would not want to continue to live.

Obviously I would also be killed after I did the deed, if some power/force had me under that kind of control, they wouldn't release me.

I would end my own life; the wisest choice, freeing myself from my captor and from the possibility of a long gruesome tortured death.

Wow OP, this is demented stuff. /sigh

Surely he would wake up as soon as you start, in which case you might as well wake him up and ask him.

Badly thought out moral problem is badly thought out.

IF however it was phrased correctly, etc etc etc.

Leg.

I'm doing Biomedical Engineering masters at uni.

Let's just say that legs are replacable. Fingers and arms SO aren't.

What?

"Excuse me, may I please cut off your arm or leg? Which would you prefer?"

Depends on the type of person.

If it was a nerd, then the leg so he good still compute and play video games. If it was an athletic person, the arm so he could still run.

The whole leg/arm? or cut off at the knee/elbow?

Taking off the entire limb would be incredibly difficult without killing the person. You're dealing with many crucial areas such as the femoral and axillary arteries. Amputating any part of a limb would be hard enough by yourself. Taking off the whole limb would probably be impossible as a solo endeavor, what with controlling the massive hemorrhaging and keeping the person as still as possible.

Still, if we're not talking about realism- I would take off a person's leg. For the same reason that I would rather lose a leg than an arm. Losing any limb is horrible, but I think the arms are far more sensitive and vital limbs in my life. Not an expert but I think it would be easier to recover or adapt to a prosthetic leg than an arm.

I chose arm. The ability to walk under one's own power is very important in terms of survival. I don't want the person to die because of my choice.

*Edit* I read other people's arguments for removing the leg, and I feel that many good arguments were made for that choice. However, I pose a question to you leggers: what kind of situation do you assume yourself to be in that you'd have to remove a limb? I see this as a potential life-threatening scenario. Being able to run away without help, hampering both of us, is far more valuable than the ability to play games or wank off in that situation.

Prosthetic legs are easier to use.

But I'd sooner whip the saw at whoever's forcing me to do it.

Ya The leg seems the thing to do, provided he can have a prosthetic. Otherwise arm because it really sucks being in a wheel chair.

Leg, because I'd rather been in a wheelchair and be able to use my hands.

QUESTION- What do I cut off the limb with? Hacksaw? Sword? Rusty Spoon?

I suppose the leg if I had to choose. A person needs their arms and hands for fine motor skills, but can replace a leg with a prosthetic... I believe easier. Not sure if that's true, but that's how I feel.

Personally, I'd choose the leg because you can do so much more with your arms. Yeah, so you wouldn't be able to walk without assistance but arms are slightly more useful in comparison.
That's going on what I'd prefer to lose, I've broken both my legs before at different times, got through it fine. Never broken my arm admittedly, but wouldn't want to try it.
If I had to lose a limb or break a bone again, I'd rather it be my leg (my left one to be precise, I kinda like my right one. There's less problems with it, plus it'd be a pain in the ass to get the coordination up to scratch using my left leg on the bass on my drums)

Edit: obviously being able to play games with hands does tip the balance slightly as well...

Leg
why: Cant play most video games with one arm. Plus you need your hands for so many more activities than your legs.

I'd rather lose both legs than one arm.

An arm if I really had to, plus there would be way to much blood if I cut the leg. Hopefully he's a lefty.
