Poll: If you were in prison and you have evidence one of your fellow prisoners is planning an escape

Fair point. Personally, I take this approach to the possibility of prison:

I'd most likely keep quiet to everyone, I wouldn't even let him know that I knew because then he'd consider me a liability. If I was certain I wouldn't be found out however and I knew it would net me an extremely valuable prize like a 1+ years off my sentence, I'd rat him out depending on who he was. If he was a good man who just made a mistake (much like I suspect I'd be if I was in prison), I'd keep quiet but if he was a scumbag who murdered or raped, I'd rat on him.

Btw there is no way this other prisoner can fit you into his plans so you will not be able to escape.

I'm a police officer and former Corrections Officer, by the way CO's usually don't like being called 'guard' as 'guards' watch property CO's watch people.

Knowing what I do about the prison system I'd let the idiot try to escape and just make sure I had a good see to watch when he attempted. 99.9% of escape attempts end very badly for the person trying. Usually in a spectacularly hilarious way.
We had someone try to climb out of the window of the rec area once, he didn't realize that the other side of the wall was a 5 story drop on to concrete. He broke both his elbows after he changed his mind and tried to climb back down. From then on the other inmates called him 'Chicken Wing'

Even if I was offered a shorter sentence, I wouldn't. Because if you do you'll be killed and if not in prison they'll find you out in the real world.

I wouldn't tell, because it's more likely he'll get caught anyway. I can't see myself going in prison and staying for a looong time anyways, I'm too timid.

Depends. If his plan involved killing guards, I'd first try to talk him out of it. If that didn't work , as I'm assuming it wouldn't in this scenario, I'd warn the guards. No loss of life.

I would keep my mouth shut since if literally one prisoner finds out I'm a rat I'll end up raped, beaten, and/or killed.

So no, I wouldn't tell a guard. Now, if the guard is deliberately asking me...That's a different story.

I definitely wouldn't. Not to sound selfish, but I gain nothing by ratting the guy out. If he wants to attempt to escape, fine. I'm not putting my life on the line by being the prison snitch.

Norwegian prison? I'd inform a guard, most likely have my time decreased as a result.

US prison? If movies and TV shows are anything to go by I'd be dead before going near the damn place XD.

I'd say it depends on who is trying to escape, If it's Rapey McBabysnatcher, then I'll probably give a guard the heads up, but if it's a guy who wrongly accused, or poses a threat to me if I say something, then I'll keep quiet.
