I was pleasantly surprised to see Marsden's Tommorow When The War Began made into a movie. Okay, it was teensy, and didnt realy do justice to the book, but still, it got me thinking...

What would you do if your home country was invaded? Say by a significant enemy force- armoured divisions with air support.

Personally, I'd try and link up with my home country's armed forces. Get some training and fight as a straight up soldier... if I could. Otherwise, just be a sneaky fuck and make life difficult for the occupier. Drain oil from engines. Set fire to tents. I've little knowledge of chemistry but I'm sure an Anarchists Cookbook can be arranged somewhere. Thing is: being a full scale insurgent is dangerous when the army starts hunting you back- and not just for you. Family, neighbours. If things were looking bad enough for it, I think I could start building IEDs, before vanishing into the wilderness with some of our family's hunting rifles.

Probably not. I'm living here for the time being, but I'm already looking at my options in other countries post-graduation. So I would probably just leave. Also, I have neither the physical fitness nor the desire to join an army of any kind. Pacifist bordering on total hippy, you see.

No, but I might see if I could join up with the invading force, depending on who they were. Hell, I regularly ask Canadians to consider invading us (and by "us" I mean the USA), because we're too immature at this point to govern ourselves, and we could really use someone to kick our asses and make us do the right thing. So, if someone from a country that's got its shit a little more together wants to invade us, I am all for it. And, even if they're from a country that isn't really all to on top of things, yeah, I honestly just don't give enough of a shit to fight for us unless the invaders are genuinely evil.

Really, it depends on what country is invading, what they are like (Socialist, capitalist, etc), and if it will really affect my life. If a capitalist country invaded and tried to force their system onto this country, then I'd probably resist. I like the little bit of socialism this country has, it has saved my life, so I owe it.
Oh, and it also depends who is in power in my country at the time of invasion. The invaders could be doing a favour.

if you wanna know something funny, the "war gamees" scenario's, every time it comes up to soldier's on foot, usa invading canada, usa always loses, they actually lose territory XD
but full force? realistically, we'd get steamrolled :(

Invaders are always after "The Resistance", which means you should not be 'with' The Resistance...so they can't suspect you. Heh heh heh...

Of course, who knows? I might BE the invader. Bwa ha haaa...

Agreed, violence is not the answer. Where you can reason with, or just make life difficult for, an occupying force without actually killing them, that's probably better for the people in your immediate surroundings.

I do, however, have a homemade railgun in my shed in case of zombies...

Damn Skippy! That is if I'm not already in the military and if everything goes well I will be by the end of the year(at least having signed the paperwork)

I got enough guns to arm at least 4 people(pistol+rifle each). And there is an Army Surplus store very close so I could make a stop there and pick up some gear and MREs. I have some camping gear and tools so if I went into the wild to make my resistance HQ I could(for at least a month or two anyway). And I would, if possible, coordinate with the military.

edit: I would also wear gloves/mask, go by an alias, severe contact with friends and family, and were at all possible get the gov't to delete any records that would be accessible to the enemy(not happening I know but I can hope and you can't stop me).

I don't think "Just Leaving" is an option when you get invaded. I think the assumption is you get one of 3 choices

1: Cooperation
2: Subjugation
3: Reistance

probably, just because I dont think any occupying force could be a good thing in a democratic country...

that is unless I feel like my country was on the route of being a dictatorship, which in that case I would have already been an insurgent before the invasion...

Depends on the the invaders; specifically, whether they're better than what we had before. If they're oppressive and stuff, then yes, I would be part of the resistance movement. But I wouldn't just assume that was the case.

I'd sign on as a double agent for both sides and backstab whomever happens to be coming out on top when the time comes. I'm no soldier, but I know how to be an information dealer.

What? They making a Homefront sequel already?

Seriously, though, that's not really a question most people can answer until they are in that position. I'd imagine all sorts of reasons for not defending your country would come to mind once you had to decide to risk your own neck.

I'd get the hell out of there! No way I'm risking my life for a country I'm not even that fond of. And I don't like the king anyway.

Depends which country is invading, and what kind of changes they'd bring about if their invasion was successful. I mean, if I was fighting for my democratic rights or whatever, then sure I'd join a resistance. I'd do what I could, at least - I doubt anyone would dump me on the front line, give me a weapon, and tell me to take down the bad guys.

I would join the AIRS...the Australian Invasion Retaliaion Squad, I would be in charge or be the main gunner...Long live the resistance!

But it depends on the people invading us.
