This may not be relevant at all to the thread, but it reminds me of this video.

OT: IGN isn't my favourite website, mainly because of all the spam, and also their writing can be god awful at times.

You actually go to WEBSITES to tell you game "SCORES"? ... Then you deserves whatever befalls you.

I don't - and haven't for a while - put any faith in the game review sites. Mind you the "readers score" on IGN is a bit more fair, but I still wouldn't give Half Life 2 any more than an 8 at best.

While an artful game like Dreamfall I would give a 9 or so http://uk.pc.ign.com/objects/535/535842.html

Furthermore in my opinion, Gothic 3 with the community patches comes out as excellent - around the score of Fallout 3 http://uk.pc.ign.com/objects/726/726093.html

Therefore I cast scorn on any review sites and bid them good day.

PS: V:TM Redemption (http://uk.pc.ign.com/objects/011/011636.html) was worth two games, and popularised games like halo 3 (http://uk.xbox360.ign.com/objects/734/734817.html) get a way higher score rating than they should. ... again reader score goes a way to pleasing me :)

It's funny that Yahtzee says that marks out of ten are stupid and we all nod sagely...then a few weeks later you see a ten and shit a church.

Read the review and see what they really thought, a number means nothing.
I hate when when people refer to Yahtzee as law. Just because it came out of his mouth, it does not mean that it's correct or not open to disagreement. Maybe while people were aping sheep, OP was busy forming his own opinions.

OT: Original Pacman will always be a ten. You add to that experience and improve the game without changing its core, of course it's still going to be a ten.

This is one of the few times that IGN actually reviewed a game with professionalism. I would understand an uproar if it was given anything below a nine.

To those saying its rated a 10 compared to other XBLA games, you do know that includes:

Portal, Braid, Limbo (even though the ending sucks), Super Meat Boy, and multifarious other debatably better and superb games, right?
You know Big Rigs [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mB1zWEhgrLs] is the best game ever made right?

I might not believe it, but that doesn't mean I couldn't debate it; it's called subjective opinion. This thread is pointless as a result, because a review isn't objective, and is a single persons opinion based around their gaming experiences.

Why is such a simple concept is so difficult to understand?

OP was forming his own opinion that someone else couldn't hold the opinion that the game could numerically be rated 10...

That's a stupid opinion to hold.

do you guys really have nothing better to do?

This is basically "we hate stuff because it's mainstream" and you don't even see it. I don't see why anyone would even bother caring. A review is an opinion, the review says quite clearly that it does what it intends to do perfectly, what more incentive would one need to give a perfect score?

Jeez, this is pathetic. Sorry, but it is.

Why do you take ANY site like that seriously?

I like the escapist because the mods and other contributers will tell me what they did or didn't like about a game.
Given any game a generic number score is STUPID. I learned this while reading GameInformer and saw that they gave GTAIV a 10.

If you go to those sites, just READ what they say about the game and don't look at the score for it.

I don't know what you think, but a random Pac Man re-release, seriously!

IGN considers this better than all of the games mentioned above:
http://xbox360.ign.com/objects/142/14235013.html
http://pc.ign.com/objects/842/842671.html
http://pc.ign.com/objects/850/850126.html
http://xbox360.ign.com/objects/882/882301.html
http://pc.ign.com/objects/492/492830.html
http://xbox360.ign.com/objects/834/834724.html

http://xbox360.ign.com/objects/077/077723.html
No, they don't say it's better than all of those games. They say that it's an almost perfect XBLA game. There is a huge difference there. Also, the first Assassin's Creed was terrible.

And why don't you just actually buy games and form your own opinions?

I think humbler or low profile games are bound to get better reviews, or at least more objective ones. The more a game is expected and advertised the more hoops it has to pass to be likable to more people.

I read/viewed the review on this game and it seamed like a lot of fun.

games aren't all about graphics, stabbing, shooting and generally maiming people, pac-man is simple that's what makes it fun and at the end of the day if the formula of ANY game has been perfected to the level where it's just pure, simple unadulterated fun that reminds you of why you started playing games to begin with then it's worth a 10 or 5 stars or twenty bags of bananas or whatever the fuck the top mark in your stupid grading system is.

Pac-Man is better than things like Fallout and Mass Effect. And nobody should care that much about reviews.

I would give Dreamfall a 4/10.

Winner.

OT: I would have to assume that the score is relative to other XBLA games, rather than the entirety of the medium. Regardless, their system is fundamentally flawed given that we're having this debate!

They are done in comparison to games in their genre or based on what they are, not just an over encompasing score.

those mainstream reviewers are hard to trust i'd start putting some faith in the new blistered thumbs folks so far they seem pretty on the ball. gamerspot and IGN are pretty bad but even gameinformer mucks up with wrongly placed mehs and yays to games who had the same faults. and the escapist has yathzee who singes a game and the escapist who's pretty fair to any game they review rarely have they shown real discontent with a games performance.

I like how to get a lot of reviews to look over when purchasing something. It's the actions of a smart customer.

I never take IGN seriously anymore. Occasionally if I want some perspective, I'll go on after looking at more trusted sites.

I think a score is relative to what its on.
As an arcade game, it probably does deserve a 10.

Besides, any score that's in the high 8s to 10 is considered a great game, a few points difference doesn't matter.

*Looks in rear view mirror

"Oh shit, its the wambulance! Some one must be raging hard!"

Honestly I really, really don't get half of the people that rag on IGN. You're raging on a XBLA game for getting a 10, get over it.
