Meh, at least Lelouch Lamperouge got on there. No Russia from Hetalia, boo.
Nah, if you're going to take a Hetalia character, you gotta pick Italy. What do you think, Italy?

Italy: PASTAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!

The lack of Gundam characters should piss me off, but strangely it doesn't. I'm happy with this list.

Except no Char Aznable. C'mon, he's the Japanese equivalent of Darth Vader for crying out loud.

Also, while it is true that One Piece is much more popular and longer-lasting than Naruto or Bleach as an anime, they both still heavily compete with One Piece as manga in Japan. One Piece has a longevity advantage, but when all three are done and we look back they may be seen differently. But purely by anime standards, One Piece is the biggest.
Guess you missed the bit about One Piece being responsible for the first increase in Shonen Jump sales since Dragonball ended then.

They might get some sales, but One Piece is the shonen king right now, and that's the largest manga and anime demographic (especially anime)

I am kinda sad to see that Alucard from Hellsing was nowhere on the list. I thought for sure that he would be on the list considering how awesome he is. I was happy to see Edward Elric and Shinji on the list, they are two of my favorite anime characters.

No Lucy/Nyuu from Elfen Lied? Blasphemy, I say!
That's who I was looking for... and not a single character from Afro Samurai? But yeah I can't really argue with Goku being number one...

I think Light Yagami should have ranked far higher, and would've liked to se Lina Inverse on there somewhere. Otherwise, it seems a pretty solid tour around the curriculum, though I've only seen three of the animes on there.

I would've preferred a list based off the quality (characterization, use, awesomeness, originality etc.) of anime characters though, regardless of their popularity or influence (yet) on a major scale. But such list would probably have been far more subjective.

I have no idea what Sailor Moon is doing up so damn high. She's actually fairly annoying. Can Hiei from Yu Yu Hakusho have that spot instead?

Not a bad list, Dragonball cleaned up with Vegeta taking a spot and Goku taking it all for... well, being awesome.

They should've just called it the "Best Shounen Anime Characters" list. This is a bit like making a best movie characters list and only listing one single genre.

Funny I'm saying that while disagreeing with the only big female character on the list. I hate Haruhi and consider the start of shows like that the end of interesting anime. Yes, I hate shows like Haruhi, Lucky Star and whatever passes as popular stuff because they keep playing into each other for the otaku schoolgirl fetish fans. Before I get quoted angrily, this doesn't mean I don't allow others to like it. It's my opinion and doesn't have to be yours.

That being said, it's still inexcusable that they left out Amuro and/or Char from Gundam. If there ever were iconic characters in anime, it's those two. They're the only ones I'd put up at the same level as Astro Boy.

I really think Vegeta should be ranked higher than Goku. Goku's just so...clean. I find it much more interesting when the main character's a bit more morally ambiguous (hence my avatar).

They have Shinji, Motoko, Spike, and, of course, Rei on their list. I don't have to murder them because they included these 4 characters, but I don't exactly agree with their standing ranking too much. But... its just IGN, right? Since when did people actually care about ranking lists?

It's good to see Lelouch.
Lelouch is a demonstrator of the influence of Light from Death Note, not an influential character in his own right.
Okay, lets compare. Psychotic teenager who is murdering people at will for some delusional ulterior motive, or freedom fighter who is trying to liberate an opressed country from tyrannical rule. As said, psychotic teenager with the brain to hold himself together, but has only a goal and no real set plan to get there, or cool, calculating mastermind who has planned every step of the way.
The only real correlation is that they are both chased by the government and operate under false identities. I'm sick of these idiots who pretend to know everything about manga/anime and dare to compare Code Geass and Death Note. They're totally different animes, please stfu and go watch some dubs.

No, the real correlation is that they're both characters who predominantly use planning and intelligence to achieve their goals rather than physical prowess like most fictional heroes, and that they're both representatives of villain protagonists whose original ideals end up with them engaging in ever more drastic acts as the power they weild corrupts them. The most significant correlation is that usually this type of character is the antagonist, not the protagonist. There are earlier examples, like Miles Vorkorsigan in Lois McMaster Bujold's books, but Light is the first one to really capture the public imagination, so he is the one that has been a significant and influential character.

You're confusing differences in the stories of Code Geass and Death Note for differences in the characters of Light and Lelouch.

Ryoko (Tenchi Muyo)
Mian Torres (Caravan Kid)
'Billy' (A.D, Police)

That's an alright list. I mean, having some of those titles in there shocked me a bit, since they weren't main stream, but the list could use a little tweaking, in my opinion. :/

Funny ho you completely disregarded the part of my post that adresses their characters. Point taken with your more detailed explanation, but next time review a complete post, not just the part favorable to your rebuttal. There's still a fundamental difference in their characters which trandescends the plots, and which in my opinion cannot be overlooked.
