Also, I'm one of the few people here who doesn't hate Shinji. Asuka should have been there, though. Anyone who's seen episode 22 would know why.

Really, the problem with Shinji being on this list is that he's out of context, because none of the super robot show heroes of which he is a deconstruction are present. Outside that context, he doesn't mean much.

There were some that I was happy made the list (Light, L, Sailor Moon, and Edward mostly) but I don't agree with the order...and a few on that list really need to be cut. Like Naruto. I clicked this hoping not to see his name. xD

Even so, you can't call Rei a "good character" because her entire design is that she has no character. Aww look, she's all bandaged up, and she doesn't care that she's being used as a weapon more or less. That's not a good character, that's a doll. (a doll that some people like to drool over, unfortunately)

Sure, they might've done a great job portraying her as a doll, but in doing so you're basically forfiting any best character competition. You can't win a best character competition if you make a girl who's thing is that she has no character.

You know, I might be mistaken, but I got the impression that that was the entire reason she was selected. This really wasn't a "best characters in anime" list. If it were, Saber would take the top five spots by herself, with maybe Rin Tohsaka jumping into fourth and Spike Spiegel languishing in sixth.

The person who compiled that list as much as admitted that she probably appeals more to the bandage fetishists, but that her actual contribution to anime besides epic Rule 34 bait (which creeped Hideaki Anno the hell out; he meant her to be creepy) was that she basically created an entire character archetype. She is to later "emotionless girl" characters what Sailor Moon is to magical girls, and you can't deny that it's a popular characterization.

I can accept Goku at the top, but Speed Racer and Astro Boy have no business being that high. The fact that they came earlier doesn't make them better; in fact, I'm not even sure Sailor Moon should be as high as she is.
