I agree with their #5, #4, and #1. Especially number one. Say what you will about Dragon Ball Z, toss whatever insult at it you will (hell, I'll probably agree with the vast majority of them), but no one can deny that Goku kicks ass. This list is better than I thought it'd be, though I do take issue with some of the ordering.
For example, I figured D would be ahead of Motoko, but whatever, at least he's on the list getting the recognition he deserves.

IGN's lists bother me for minor reasons usually, but are generally well put together.. And the same goes for this list.

Doesn't matter one bit. It's IGN, so why are they covering Japanese cartoons? (Sometimes it hurts to say or type "anime")
For the most part the characters in the list are from fairly new shows, and of course it' just opinion. It would however be cool to talk to a wide array of big names in the Japanese animation industry to see what their favorite characters are.
On a personal note, Alucard (Hellsing) would have been on there because no one brought on the insanity like that guy. And where the hell is Captain Harlock?

Joke list. Seems to me like they just picked up popular animes, then threw the main characters, the protagonist or the antagonist, and called it a day. There are at least 10 characters I could pick instead of Naruto, Ichigo or Edward Elric from their native animes. Kakashi, Gaara, Sousuke Aizen, Kuchiki Byakuya, Aizen Sousuke, The Furher, MAJOR, ALEX, LOUIS, ARMSTRONG!!

Screw Goku, and the rest of the Dragonball universe. When it started off Toriyama couldn't even get basic human anatomy correct, and who the hell cares about a character that's given every advantage you could possibly imagine? He loses the only disadvantage he ever had relatively early on, and people are tripping over themselves to give him items that he can fly on, fight with, instantly heal himself, or destroy anything he wishes and he winds up stronger than God? And the series itself? I remember getting really into the series back in the mid-nineties when I had to get up at 5:30 in the morning to catch an episode (I live in Nebraska, no good TV ever gets here on time), and then the studio that was presenting it stopped for like three years.
Suddenly I get the biggest cliffhanger of all time taken off my mind when the show gets brought back by Cartoon Network just to find out that everyone's voice now sounds awful and I find out that I would have been better off not ever seeing the fight between Frieza and Goku. "The whole planet will explode in three minutes"? They covered that amount of time in like twelve episodes! And every fight after that just wound up looking like a farting contest. Seriously, everyone makes the same "I hope this is just gas" pose for three episodes while the cut to still shots of other people's faces.
And here's how every fight goes when they're finally done trying to evacuate themselves:
SUPER HUGE ATTACK!!! <boom, dustcloud> "He's dead, heh" "HUH?! He's not dead?" "My turn, turd!" SUPER HUGE ATTACK!!! <boom, dustcloud> "He's dead, heh" "HUH?! He's not dead?" Repeat until you change the channel.
Again I do this out of love. Piccolo was my favorite.
This list is kind of garbage. I have a big WTF floating around in my head to a few of them. Pikachu, really? SPEED RACER?! Honestly.

I'm glad Ichigo's on there though. I like him a lot as a character. He's had to come to grips with a lot of things in the anime, which I really enjoyed. I think he deserves to be up there.

Goku?!? Seriously?! That guy, while powerful, is only thought of as awesome thanks to the creator's quantifying the damn power levels. He's no more OP or extraordinary than any other main character.
Honestly? I think Canti should have won. That robot tells almost his entire backstory to you... and the damn thing is MUTE. You can read emotions, his needs and his wants all through the way he's animated. If I met with Goku and Canti in the street (in theory), I'd choose to spend the time with Canti.

I didn't read anything in there that I disagreed with. I fully recognize how excruciatingly stupid the show is in general. However, I still can't help but love it regardless. I suppose I feel about Dragon Ball Z in the way The Spoony One hopes Dr. Who fans feel about Dr. Who, able to admit how much their show completely and utterly sucks.Fwee said:

I love the show very much, only partially because of the characters, story, and so on. The main reason I love the show is because of some of the ideas behind it.
For me Ichigo and Luffy should be higher than Naruto. Fact that they are more awesome in every way.
