Now before we get into this: no, I'm not one of those guys who says,"Oh, Bioware, you were so good now look how far you've fallen," like some kind of disappointed parent, I still love those guys. It's just Mass Effect 3 I'm worried about, mainly from what I've seen in gameplay trailers and screenshots. Now I remember Mass Effect for allowing me to tour the galaxy and complete quests at my own pace, and occasionally party and get drunk on the occasional Krogan ale. It's just that it looks... linear. I like Mass Effect because it makes a galaxy of itself, it is an entire galaxy that I can look at. But from what I've read, the vehicle section on rails, and the combat, I'm a little concerned is all. I'm sure Bioware will do us good I'm just worried that EA is gonna stick a piece of Bazooka bubblegum in the cogs and gum the whole works. And even if ME 3 doesn't work, I'll still probably buy it just to finish the saga and I'm pretty sure they'll be back with an MMO(just 'cause the Reapers are dead doesn't mean that the galaxy is at peace). I dunno maybe it's nothing, maybe it's something, I just wanna know if I'm alone on this. Anyone else a little skeptic here? Feel free to vote and post your opinion.

P.S. If Other is selected please explain why

Saying I was worried about it would imply that I thought it was going to be great in the first place. As much as I liked some of the things in 2, I think I've pretty much had enough of these games. Mostly because of the gameplay, I don't find cover based shooting fun at all. The gameplay needs more variety in my opinion. I have no doubt it will have some great writing and characters, but I'm probably not going to buy it anyway.

Also, are you implying Mass Effect wasn't linear in the first place?

Keep in mind that we've seen so far is not to attract old fans into buying the third one (they pretty much know we will already), but to attract new fans into the series and impress game journalists so they write positive stuff with "Hey, that looks pretty awesome.."

Once they start talking about character reveals and what RPG mechanics are coming back/being expanded upon, I assume that's what you're aiming to see? That's what I'm looking for, at least.

Also, are you implying Mass Effect wasn't linear in the first place?
I think the OP is referring to the fact that you can do the available missions in any order, and at any time you can go derp around on side-mission planets instead of following the story.

So I'm not the only one.

Yes I have my doubts. But I think Bioware can pull through I'm just going to avoid the hype and wait untill it comes out to pass judgement.

I think that they're only showing gameplay for now because they don't want to risk leaking any important aspects of the story, which I personally think is a smart decision. We know what we're gonna be doing, and who we're gonna do it with, and I have no doubt that BioWare will deliver on their promise.

I thoroughly enjoyed the first two Mass Effects, but EA more than BioWare is starting to worry me.
As a PC gamer, if my only option for playing this game is via Origin, I won't be going anywhere near it.

No I'm not impyling that, it just felt like there was no real rush to complete the story mission, I could take care of other stuff before I worry about killing Seran or Sovereign. Now it looks like a sci fi Rainbow Six Vegas

For me, Shepard is a character that is kind of iconic. As Shepard, I didn't just feel like I was some overpowered monster like I might in other games, I felt like nothing was impossible. It endowed me with the greatest of confidence that no task was too gargantuan given some time, my team and some gunplay.

That being said, yes, I've grown increasingly worried about the last installment. This is the last game where I can play as Shepard and all I've heard about is additions that are reminiscent of popular FPSs. Some of the things I've been reading about have made me a little hopeful that everything will be alright, like switching out the HORRIBLE mining system... but most of it fills me with dread.

There are so many things I already want them to improve on for the 3rd installment. All the additions that they claim to be for strategic depth and added fun just fills me with worry. At this rate, it's like they've got more on their plate than they'll be able to handle.
:/

So right now I'm actually looking more forward to Skyrim... and yet I preordered the collectors edition of ME3. It's kind of silly of me. But what I heard earlier is right. They're trying to add people to the franchise. I just hope that doesn't end up cocking it up.

Mass Effect sounds interesting and I played a few hours of the first game, but I got bored. Since then, ruthless spoilers on these forums have kind of padded out what I've missed. Just turn the third one into a movie for me and I might get around to watching it one day.

So really, I don't know what people should be worried about, but I hope it works out okay. :)

Bigger problems in the world and all that, pip pip. :D

They could at least offer to show a little more leg, y'know? ArenaNet has been working on Guild Wars 2 for years now and have shown those who are waiting some material without giving it all away. They show a couple of cinematics, one dungeon, and some underwater combat (really impressive, probably the best out of any game, check it out). They show us with out giving it all away, that's the least Bioware could do. So far the only places I've heard of in the game are Earth and Tuchanka, I've heard nothing on Omega or the Citadel. Not even side quests

The Reapers are invading the galaxy and starting with Earth. I'd be concerned if Shepard would rather drink Krogan ale then go kick some ancient machine's ass. Story-wise, I don't see why you would need to go around bar-hoping, or visiting some lost planet when the Reapers are freakin' killing everyone!

All acerbity aside, I'm more worried that ME3 is going to be a simple shooter, considering which path ME2 went down on. I personally think ME1 is a much better game then ME2 (and that's a whole other subject) but hopefully the gameplay won't be redundant cover based shooter. I think Bioware is still creative enough to surprise us, from what I read about ME3 (which is close to nothing) it looks like they've got a few things up their sleeves.

Well lucky for you they're planning to make a movie out of it anyway. 2012, an animated movie will be out.

I second this.

Bioware have given me no reason to be worried. So I'm not going to start now.

I've heard that you can go to the Citadel, you'll probably have to so you can attempt to warn the Council. My prediction: The infamous "Ah yes, "Reapers" line will make a comeback. And they'll probably show a little more of the story as the release date gets closer. My guess is they'll start really kicking things into high gear early 2012.

The issue with the Reapers is another thing I'm having trouble with. If you notice, all the Reapers shown in the cinematics look eerily like Soverign... which for anyone who's passed ME2 should be confusing. They should each be completely unique. So whats going on?

I haven't looked at any footage to avoid spoilers but... Don't all Reapers look alike?

So you based this fear upon the fact that we have only seen a small bit of gameplay, not to mention it was a fucking mission which have always been pretty linear.

Also, where did you read that the vehicle sections were on-rails? wasn't he riding a TRAIN (or a maglev or whatever) in the demo and thus was obviously on-rails?.

As long as the vanguard gameplay is good and they don't throw too many bones to the creepy relationship people, I'll take a look at it. But honestly I'm not sure I'll buy it, considering that I'll probably have already spent my RPG monies for the year on Witcher 2, Deus Ex 3, and (if it has stuff I like) Skyrim. But who knows, maybe Bioware will step up their game.
