Now I remember Mass Effect for allowing me to tour the galaxy and complete quests at my own pace, and occasionally party and get drunk on the occasional Krogan ale. It's just that it looks... linear.
P.S. If Other is selected please explain why
Linear? Have you been watching the same trailers as I have?

Okay, here's the plot of ME3 (This is technically guesswork, but I am skilled at pattern recognition when I see it).

Oh, and consider this a spoiler warning, even thought I might be wrong.

Shep's Trial.
Earth gets Attacked.
Shep escapes earth.

And then a hub-based set of missions. You need to go recruit allies. The council can't help because there's bad stuff on each of their homeworlds too. SO...

Mission: Recruit the Asari
Mission: Recruit the Salarians
Mission: Recruit the Turians
Mission: Recruit the Geth/Quarians
Mission: Recruit the Krogan (If you saved the virus cure)
Mission: Recruit the Rachnai (if they yet live)

You can also screw around on the Citadel, Illium, or fly about doing unrelated side quests.

And, once you've completed the three main plot missions (Asari, Salarains, and Turians) you can go save Earth. So make sure you take care of lots of side quests before you do the three plot branches.

This is just my guess, but the information released so far (that you'll be going to the Asari, Salarian, and Turian homeworlds) seems to indicate that this is how it's going to go down. So yeah.. looks awesome to me. ^^

Of course i'm a little worried about how good the game will be, this is the last one in ther series, so i'm just nervous how well they will wrap up the story, but I have faith in Bioware, I believe they'll give us yet another great story (yeah haters, I liked the story in Mass Effect 2)

Meh, I saw a video where some guys from Bioware (NOTE: Not EA) said that bring back deep RPG elements was one of their biggest priorities with the game, and that was really my only problem with ME2, so....I'm not TOO worried.

Actually, check that. I am still a little concerned about the environments. They were kind of bland in ME2 (Especially the Flotilla. The fuck was up with that??!!) and I'm hoping they're a little...grander...in ME3. Which it looks like they are. So again...I'm not TOO worried.

From what I've seen, it looks no different than Mass Effect 2. So, if you liked Mass Effect 2, you should have nothing to worry about. That being said, I didn't like how they streamlined Mass Effect 2 (I want to use more than one power!), but that's it. Also, I miss exploring a bit. So no, I'm not worried about Mass Effect 3 at all. It will get a great game.

The issue with the Reapers is another thing I'm having trouble with. If you notice, all the Reapers shown in the cinematics look eerily like Soverign... which for anyone who's passed ME2 should be confusing. They should each be completely unique. So whats going on?
I haven't looked at any footage to avoid spoilers but... Don't all Reapers look alike?
SPOILERS HERE.

Not if the origins of the Reapers is to be believed. By the end of ME2 they reveal that Reapers are a combination of organic and synthetic life. In order to create ONE of the massive reapers a civilization at it's peak (when the greatest population of that civilization will exist) is attacked in order to harvest their lives for the creation of a Reaper. Shepard remarks halfway through the game about the pods in the collector vessel which should hold millions of people. It's also explained at the end that these people are being condensed for their DNA which is the organic component of the organic/synthetic Reaper. When you fight the boss at the end, an infant Reaper, it's also explained that many more millions of lives will need to go in to the creation of this. They chose humans because they were for some weird reason the compatible ones for the process.

Thats why I want to know if I'm missing something!

Erm. I never worry over a game. But do I think it has the possibility of not living up to my expectations? Yes.
I thought ME2 was better than the first, so I would hope 3 would be just as good. We shall see.

Well, I found Mass Effect 2 merely "decent", so unless they make a major fuck up on this game I really don't think I can get any less excited for it.

Don't get me wrong, I like the series, it's just the second one made to many "why?" decisions to keep me excited for this one.

Looks like Mass Effect 2 with an epic holoblade thingey. No complaints here. I don't see how it could be "Linear" though, without throwing everything about ME's mission and RPG systems out the window, which would be like worrying about a Dead Rising game not having zombies. It won't happen. ME2 didn't have planet exploration, sure, but was ME's really that good? It was a few hundred meters, with maybe three things in it. That was the biggest improvement made in ME2 if you ask me. I think that this will be the best one yet.

I?m skeptical about every game. That?s why I rent.
I?ve kind of always felt that Bioware games are more about story than gameplay. This game will probably be another sort of on-rails rpg that guides you along a narrative. I personally prefer my rpgs with a bit more exploration and spontaneity but I can see the appeal to the story centric rpg. I?ll give it a rent but I don?t think I?ll buy.

Y'know as much as I'm looking forward to it, it's threads like this that make me worried. I was more than excited to hear news of ME2 and I ended up being very happy with it. I'm sure that Bioware can do this as they've made some of the best RPG stories around (one of my all time favorites being KotOR). Believe in the Bioware that believes in you.

I know I'll love the game but I have a feeling it will feel too similar to Mass Effect 2, and not feel like as much of a sequel improvement wise as 2 was to 1.

My theory has always been that around 90% of the reapers were made from the first race of galactic civilization, i.e. the squids. Also you have to also realize that some races can't be made into reapers, they tried with the protheans but it didn't work; thus the collecters were born.

Also, gameplay wise, they also probably wanted to give them a uniform look to be easily identifiable. But who knows, maybe they just recycled the models for trailers.

I'll buy it one way or another. The only thing that depends on how much I actually like it is whether it'll get beaten in one straight run over a few days or if I'll end up putting it down and coming back to it later when there's nothing new.

The Reapers are invading the galaxy and starting with Earth. I'd be concerned if Shepard would rather drink Krogan ale then go kick some ancient machine's ass. Story-wise, I don't see why you would need to go around bar-hoping, or visiting some lost planet when the Reapers are freakin' killing everyone!

Look at the closing scenes of ME2 and you'll see all the Reapers shown there look the same too. The human reaper is the only unique one (unless you count the glowy lights on Harbinger) shown.

And no, I'm not worried, although what happened to Dragon Age 2 might be cause to worry. Nothing within the actual trailers shown has implied any of your concerns will happen...the "on-rails" shooting is within the events of a mission, it doesn't make the story itself more linear (actually, I fucking hate saying "linear" in this sense - all stories have to be linear. Restricted, then).

Maybe a little.

And before you quote me in anger, or tell me to "wait until the game comes out" or whatever else, someone's got to be the yang(killjoys) to everyone's yin(hyped up fans). Also, I'm just having a bit of fun. Calm down. I'm sure it'll be better than most games on the market. Hopefully. Bioware games never were that fun to actually play. Except MDK 2, that game was fun as hell.

after seeing the E3 footage, absolutely not. the game looks incredible.

tbh, you have no reason to believe its going to be an overly-linear experience, as theyve done nothing to show that. you can probably only expect linearity at the begging, end, and somewhere in the middle. the majority of the game will be open world, just as the last two were.

the only thing im a little worried about is the reapers. how are we going to fight them? how are they going to do a final boss, when the main antagonists are so gigantic and powerful?

but other than that, it looks fantastic. the graphics are once again, excellent. the shooting gameplay is clearly more refined, and looks on-par with Gears and Uncharted. all in all, ive seen nothing but improvement, so far.

Edit: irridium, i just watched that whole video and saw nothing but stupid ass complaints about things that really dont matter...

Yeah. And even if it becomes linear Bioware would probably find a way to more than make up for it.

Yes, I'm worried, but that's only because I'm not sure if Jack will be a team in your squad that I can use on all missions. I would miss her a lot, if she wasn't
