Poll: I'm Changing my Avatar and losing my Recognition!!!

By reading this thread, it seems pretty clear to me that a lot more people connect a post to someone's avatar than I thought. I realized how often I see an avatar and expect a certain personality/tone in the post. Maybe I'm on here too much :3

Pretty sure most people will remember avatars they've seen a lot and might vaguely remember the kind of posts that person has written. I happily fit this category, recognize a couple of people by name but far more by avatar. Case in point, your avatar is familiar =) but your name isn't.

personally I am quite happy with my avatar as is, I don't feel any need to change it, though it wouldn't matter if I did. I happily fit into the category of people no-one recognizes anyway =).

Yeah I just slapped Zero on as an avatar when I first joined escapist a while back (I had long been a watcher of various videos before finally making an account), recently I have been wanting to change it to an image of Garen or Drizzt'Do Urden but have had trouble with it as I have been using Zero for so long.

Technically I change my avatar every few days, but, like Psychic Taco, I try to keep a reoccurring theme. It's how I reconcile my inability to leave things alone with my desire to be mildly recognizable.

Now I am Vergil, and awesome (and post a lil more, that's always a good thing.)

The only reason I refrain from changing mine is because I don't have a new one to change it to. When I do I don't have to worry about recognition issues because of the several ways I've already made myself recognizable.(sideways picture is the dead giveaway)

Congrats on your approaching birthday.

The whole point, especially for those who don't post frequently, is how important an Avatar is for our individual identity when it comes to being recognized by the Community.

Recognition, mind you. Not good or bad, but simply being recognized.

And none of us should dismiss the quality factor of simple recognition coming into play when we--upon reflection--take into account the fact that we'll heed a familiar face--for good or ill--more than a stranger's face.

That's just social basics.

I change my avatar quite frequently... I'm just someone who wants to find the perfect one for me. I don't know if that's really affected if people know me or not though. I feel like I wouldn't be known either way really.

Ah yes, the hyper blinking one that Caramel Frappe made for me. Yeah, I tend to get very absorbed in whatever anime, game or visual novel I immerse myself in, and that was during my Katawa Shoujo phase

I imagine you do too, with all the switching back and forth with all the Steins;Gate, Chaos;Head, Saya no Uta and Fate/Stay Night avatars (pretty sure I'm missing more than a few there)

...I really should get around to finishing the third ending in Saya no Uta sometime soon >.>

Oh indeed.

I have 2/3 endings too. I don't know why, but in many VNs I leave one of the endings up to the imagination and walk away before I have them all. Bad habit. Steins;Gate, Katawa Shoujo, you name it, there's one ending I've neglected to follow through..
