I'm fine being a PC gamer, due to the fact that I love playing games on my PC.
You don't feel ashamed of going to a school because some major idiot went there, you ignore that twat and move on.

Since you play on a mac, I don't think most of them would consider you one of them anyway so.... :D
That's another thing; you cant just play on a PC, you need to have the RIGHT PC and if it's a Mac or costs less than $1400 you get shunned by the community.
What a crock of shit; every PC gamer I've seen spends the entire time telling people that you can build a very good gaming PC for cheap if you're smart about it.

And anti-digital distribution? We're the ones pushing it.
No from what I've seen, I've seen lots of anti-Steam people that dismiss it just because it's online.
Lots of Anti-Steam people bash it because they've had bad experiences with Steam in the past. It was not the shiny, pretty-reliable service it is today.

They're in the (vocal) minority, however. Valve would not be doing such insane business if the PC market was not on board with them, man.

All things considered, they're probably the richest developer after Blizzard.

PC gamers are not Anti-DD. If they were Nearly half of PC games sales would not be digital downloads. But look - they are. [http://www.maximumpc.com/article/news/npd_digital_downloads_encompass_nearly_half_pc_game_sales]

Nope, i've never been embarrassed by it, and i'm an all out pc gamer, never owned a console, and although it sounds nerdy, i'm proud of it. i'm usually the one bad mouthing consoles and my friends (although they are largely console gamers) most of the time agree with me.

Yeah, some people. But it's also got 30 million users, so think about it for a second.

The Escapist had a recent poll and it was the majority of console gamers that were against DD.
I've never been a fan of polls to try to get opinions; wheather it be gaming or politics.
What a bizarre comment, you're not a fan of getting people's opinions by asking them?

Here's the thing, I like to play games on my PC (an iMac with XP installed), but every time that I see PC gamers spout off on the interwebnets (DRM, blaming everything bad on consoles, anti-digital distribution, pirates, etc) I just get embarrassed to count myself among them. Does anyone else feel the same way? I know I should just ignore them, but I just have OCD and an obsessive memory and I can't "just forget it".
eh fanboys everyone has them if you have a ps3 you're a wannabe you have a wii you're a ten year old you have a 360 you're a douchebag those are just labels you get if you have those consoles

I love being a PC gamer, yeah there are heaps of PC dicks, but there are also console dicks, its no different really. I tend to play with either mates or a clan on PC to avoid the dicks.

I really think this thread is a bit bullshit. Console gamers are just as bad if not worse at times than PC gamers who are like that. There's fanboys on everything if you are embarassed by fanboys you probably shouldn't be on the internet. Even OCD aside they are not a big deal.

I used to be a PC gamer first, everything else second. Very recently, that has changed, and looking at it from the outside, I can say that the PC extremist crowd is the most pedantic, obnoxious, arrogant, holier-than-thou community in gaming.

Those people that you mention seem to me as PC Elitists, which everyone hates.

Basic Function of how this works:
PC Elitists = hated by everyone except themselves
PC Gamers = hated by Console Elitists
Console Gamers = hated by PC Elitists
Console Elitists = hated by everyone except themselves
Meanwhile PC and Console Gamers have minor mediocre deputes in a normally gentleman manner, where each side describes their preferences and talks about it.

From your reactions to the PC Elitists, you seem to be a PC Gamer and not one of those morons.
Congratulations, we respect you.

That is the exact place at which you lost all credibility.

Seriously though, the complaints about console dumbing-down and draconian DRM are entirely legitimate. These are serious problems.

I'm a PC gamer, but far from an elitist. There are several things which I actually believe consoles do much better than PC, IE: platformers and sandbox games. At the same time though I couldn't imagine playing an fps or western RPG on anything other than the PC.

Yeah, a lot of PC players are really obnoxious. I'd just ignore them and not associate yourself with them.

Meh, it's all a matter of preference. I like having a Mac laptop for my basic work life, and I love that I can boot up XP and play any game released for the PC. I'm not a huge fan of consoles because I didn't grow up owning one, but I still love borrowing a friends 360 to play the Fable or Halo series. I think people like to have elitist arguments just so they can have one. It's like the Mac vs PC argument: just shut up and use whatever you like! It's obviously serving your needs, whether its Mac, Windows, Linux, or chalk on the sidewalk.

Here's the deal, if we went by what "gaming forums" display on regards of the general mind-set and intellect level of ANY gamer, regardless of their gaming platform... We'd ALL have to either be ashamed of the label "Gamer" or just be complete homophobic pre-teen ass-hats.

So stop whining and just call yourself Joe.

Self esteem based on choice of consumer goods is overrated and PC gamer is pretty much just a statement of fact rather than an ideology for most of us. I wouldn't expect a Mac owner to understand that though.
Best post of the week. You got my vote.

That's bullshit. If anything, it would be the other way around: if you're not capable of assembling your own rig for less than 900$ then you'd deserve some flaming.
Hell, my rig cost around 732$ (give or take a few thousand ISK).

Firstly, it isn't just PC gamers, all kinds of gamers do this. I guess you missed the console war?

Secondly, just because you play video games does not automatically put you in the same group the people you describe, I like Charlie Chaplin movies, it doesn't mean I am in the same group as Hitler.

Thirdly, internet morons will always say stupid things, so yes you should get over it.

I think of the elitists as the unfortunate veteran uncle who's stuck in his "glory days" world and judges everyone based on it. Just pat them on the shoulder, console them with "Of course, Dear, of course," and continue on with the conversation. I'm proud to call myself a PC owner.
