There has been much talk about Borderlands, some about how the randomized loot will keep you playing for months, and others saying that there isn't much of a story underneath all those weapons. With a little over a week until release, I am still undecided whether or not I should purchase Borderlands. Of course I can always just wait for some friends to pick it up so I can try the game for myself, but I have become rather bored with the Xbox 360 games I currently own.

I have heard many comparisons to Borderlands and Fallout 3. My Fallout 3 save is at 100+ hours right now. So I'm thinking I can get the same mileage out of Borderlands.

Are you going to purchase Borderlands? If so, what are you most excited for? If you are on the other spectrum, what is keeping you from buying it?

I might rent it. I have watched most of the videos and interviews out for it, and I still barely understand what the game is. So... I really don't know.

I really don't understand that borderlands is like fallout 3
Because it has guns and rpg elements? That's it

Honestly I will probably get it, if the final product is as good as it sounds but if I were you, wait for a review

it's a FPS/RPG, with over a billion guns
(it randomizes EVERYTHING you see, guns, vehicles, enemy's even locations if I am correct)
and yes, I am getting it, I love the graphics, the idea of having 84 billion different guns, and the 4 man co-op.

I'm getting it. I remember an early preview detailing a boss fight with a huge hive-like creature. Then I find out the game is cell-shaded which good news if you're tired of the grey-parade we've seen lately. The weapons and items are also a motivating factor for me

...

so when I get it and the story blows, I will have felt the proverbial bite-in-the-ass xD

I thought it was 17 million guns?

I'm really on the fence too. I'm not as enthralled by the idea of infinite weapons as everyone else is. World of Warcraft has thousands of weapons too, and I don't see that as the main reason to play. I'm going to wait until friends buy it and then kinda see what they make of it, or maybe if there's a demo or trial, that'd be sweet. I don't really need an extensive story, what I want is a great co-op FPS. If they nail that, with plenty of content, then I'm sold. If they don't, then why'd I buy a mediocre FPS just for fourteen thousand variants of shotgun if none of them are fun?

I'm not getting Borderlands. I simply don't think it's worth the cash.

I've pre-ordered it. It's a game combining two of my favourite genres with some of my favourite gameplay elements in a setting I really like. I think I'm going to love this game unless they really fuck it up somehow.

no, the guns are determined randomly, and in the adverts they keep saying huge numbers
maybe it's "just" 17 million, but that's more then enough for me :p

Surely the ramdomness could go against it..?
What if you lose a gun but want it again. Chances are it won't materialize with 1 / 1,000,000,000 chance. I'm guessing you can store pre-requisites you enjoy and save as you wish.
I'm looking forward to it. F3 in colour is no bad thing.

Even the cover art looks fresh and exciting.

it seems interesting to me, as every play through will be entirely different, as in Fallout 3, if you want to play a guy with a big gun, you automatically end up with Vengeance and a lot of MF cells.

in Borderlands, if you want to play a heavy weapon guy, your first guy might get a minigun that shoots kittens, and your second guy might get a rocket launcher that launches satellites.

Do you like wacky and funny games with what looks like solid shooter gameplay and a hell load of guns?
If so, get it.
