I'm not really that concerned about the million+ guns...

To me it looks like a decent FPS/RPG with some awesome stylization, fun looking free-roaming action and enough of an RPG skill system to lend it some depth in between all the Shooting and Looting. Also, I got Farcry 2 free with it... HMV is strange...

Basically, I'm going to see what IGN thinks about it, then decide. If it gets an 8/10 or above, I'm probably going to buy it.
IGN gave it an 8.8 if you havent seen it yet. Metacritic.com so far has around 14 reviews i think and their average is an 86. So it seems like a solid game, nothing that will get 100s from reviews but an 86 is a damn good game. And plus it seems like if it was judged just on the coop play it would be well into the 93+ range.

I doubt I'll buy it. When the novelty wears off, I'll probably take a copy home from work (perks of working at a game store) and try it out. But I'm not really motivated to buy it. FPS style isn't my favorite, and everything I've heard thus far says the game can be very difficult for single-players in a few of the classes. Designing a class that can only be played during co-op is not a good RPG element. And since I like single-player RPGs more than co-op shooters, I'll be buying Dragon Age long before I even check this one out.

ill be picking it up as soon as i've finished SP on Uncharted 2. i think it looks really good even when the had early shots and it wasn't cell shaded, just looks awesome now. not to sound silly unless its blaringly obvious or somneone has mentioned it yet but Gametrailers have had a Borderlands blowout in the last day or so with loads of new videos and stuff uploaded, might give you a bit of more an insight into the game/ help you make a decision.

There has been much talk about Borderlands, some about how the randomized loot will keep you playing for months, and others saying that there isn't much of a story underneath all those weapons. With a little over a week until release, I am still undecided whether or not I should purchase Borderlands. Of course I can always just wait for some friends to pick it up so I can try the game for myself, but I have become rather bored with the Xbox 360 games I currently own.

I have heard many comparisons to Borderlands and Fallout 3. My Fallout 3 save is at 100+ hours right now. So I'm thinking I can get the same mileage out of Borderlands.

Are you going to purchase Borderlands? If so, what are you most excited for? If you are on the other spectrum, what is keeping you from buying it?
If you've played and enjoyed Diablo 2 and Fallout then I'm thinking this game outta be for you. (The weapons in diablo 2 are also randomized, and this always gave it a huge + for me as it made you try and keep efficient with your weapons/armor and limited inventory)

I know what you mean however, I'm keen to play but still aint sure its worth the purchase.

Also, quick question to anyone who can answer. Will there be melee weapons available in the game?!?

Yeah, I saw that. Me and two other friends are buying on the 26th fosho.

Cannot wait to play it.

Hey, everyone. My first post on here, but, about Borderlands...

I'm just getting into it, and I'm already really digging it. One of the first that got me was the weird sense of humor in the game. It's very tongue-in-cheek and surprisingly effective. Combat and gameplay holds up, but the sensitivity is a little weird at first (nothing that couldn't be tweaked). Has anybody played co-op yet? I'm trying to get two other buddies to get it.

I have other games that I'm saving up for, so I won't. I'll still play it, because my friend is getting it and we can play split-screen, but I won't buy it personally.

This is a game meant to be played with buddies.

It will get old on single player after a while.

I'm doubtful on the "OVER 900000000000 GUNS IN THE GAMEW!@$@!#%@%".

Look at it this way;
Electric Gun: Does 20-50 Damage, has circular red dot sight (just an example)
Another Electric Gun: Does 21-50 Damage, has same red dot sight.
Other Electric Gun: Does 20-50 Damage, has ovular red dot sight.
Another Another Electric Gun: Does 21-51 Damage, has ovular red dot sight.
And so on.

It's easy to say "WE HAVE A BAZILION WEAPUNZ IN THE GAME!@#$!#" when there could be only a difference in the shape of the dot sight.
It's actually more like:
  • * Electric Gun
    * Electric Gun with Cluster Attachment
    * Electric Gun with Cluster Attachment and Silencer
    * Electric Gun with Cluster Attachment, Silencer, and Grenade Launcher attachment
    * Electric Gun with Cluster Attachment, Silener, Grenade Launcher Attachment, and Laser Sight.
    * Electric Gun with just the silencer.
    * Electric gun with just the grenade launcher attachment.
    * Electric Gun with just the laser sight.
    * Electric Gun with just the silencer and the grenade launcher attachment.
    * Ect.
    * Repeat with .45 Cal, .25 Cal, Laser Gun, Plasma Gun, ect.
    * Repeat with Splitter Attachment, Sonic Attachment, Shotgun Attachment, ect.
    * Repeat with various different types of silencer, alternates to to silencing, ect.
    * Repeat with various alternatives to Grenade Launcher attachment, ect.
It multiplies pretty fast without doing cheap number tricks.

That said, I expect the customizable gun feature to blur together the differences between the guns so much as to be a silly, forgettable feature. However, I still plan to get this game eventually. It's a real milestone that any real gamer hobbiest is going to get.

I'm going to buy it right after I...*ahemtestitahem.* The trailer looks SWEET, but I've been fooled by fancy trailers before. I'm very disappointed that I can't pre-order it now, test it later, and then play it legitimately immediately after. If I did that, there would be no back-up plan in case it's all hype and no substance.

i'm really kinda on the fence about this game... it looks like some good co-opping, but then again with several other games coming out, including dragons age which i am also on the fence about (mainly because it is a EA game...)

It's actually a Bioware game; EA just owns their company right now. Bioware has a rich history of great games, including Baldur's Gate, Knights of the Old Republic, Jade Empire, and Mass Effect.

Yeah, I'll get it. Honestly, I'll just be happy to have a game that truly makes me want to buy a second PS3 controller (which I'll probably buy along with it).

I might rent it. I have watched most of the videos and interviews out for it, and I still barely understand what the game is. So... I really don't know.
it's a FPS/RPG, with over a billion guns
(it randomizes EVERYTHING you see, guns, vehicles, enemy's even locations if I am correct)
and yes, I am getting it, I love the graphics, the idea of having 84 billion different guns, and the 4 man co-op.
I thought it was 17 million guns?
Geez people it is 87 bazillion guns. And I cannot wait for it (hopefully tomorrow, stupid delivery trucks). I am going to play the crap out of it once it comes in. I got my winter hibernation all planned out. Borderlands, Magna Carta 2, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 and Dragon Age. A couple more weeks then bring on the snow.

I've played about 12 hours of this game since it launched, and I have to say I'm in love with it. It plays EXACTLY like an FPS version of Diablo. The entire game is based upon grinding for progressively better weapons and class mods. The combat is fun, the enemies are (sort of) varied, and it has a great feeling of atmosphere. My only complaints so far are the ridiculous amounts of travel a lot of the quests require and the complete lack of any story elements whatsoever. If you want story in your games, this is not the game for you.
