Yes, but I'm not importing the Japanese version, I'm importing the US version (assuming they don't region lock it like they did for Persona 4 Arena).

I can't see a European version arriving in my lifetime, if ever, so fuck it. I'm pretty sure I can understand American.

I'm just sad that this still won't be an option for Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse :(

If the US one won't have dual audio I will import. I had to resort to playing undubs for the older persona games as my Japanese wasn't at a perfect level yet (yes, learning a language takes YEARS and you kinda wanna still play ganes as you go lol) but I am not who I once was any more. First Jrpg I Imported in fact was FFXIII and I enioyed it fully, and from the sound of it, a lot more than than folks who played it in english lol.

Here here, I got an American 3DS almost purely because SMT games take ages to make it to Europe (Persona Q made it within days of the US release, were it always so ideal)

I will definitely be importing it from the US unless they pull another Persona 4 Arena (man that was a pointless kick in the nuts) Europe tends to get these kind of games much later, hell, Fire Emblem Fates just came out last week here.

As for importing the Japanese version, if you can read and understand Japanese, go for it, if not, I would say it would really hamper the experience, since Persona's biggest draw (aside from the uncomfortable fanservice) is the story and character interactions.
Am I to understand that the Satanists who run Atlus aren't even going to bother releasing Persona 5 here? This is probably due to Nis America cutting ties with those cretins. I hate Atlus so much. They have released some of my favourite games, they just happen to be my least favourite gaming company. I feel so sorry for anyone who works at Atlus Europe they must want to release stuff but aren't allowed because their company is a detriment to art itself. Not like the glorious localization factory that is Koei.

I'd say Persona 4 is one of my favourite games. But at this point I'll deprive myself of a great game just to spite Atlus. Who knows I didn't dare hope for a physical EU of release of Guilty Gear Xrd or chronophantasma but they happened, fingers crossed the smae will happen for Persona.

I might import the NA version if the European version takes an age to come out. Won't be importing the JP release as I don't know Japanese.

I'll do this as well. I don't know a single thing about reading japanese, so a story heavy RPG in kanji would be quite a waste of money in my case.
However, a few weeks ago Atlus and the company that published their games in Europe cut ties. So... currently there isn't anyone bringing Atlus games to us. If it turns out they shun the European market, I will definitly import the US version (and pray it's not region locked).

Seriously, why do companies make this shit so complicated? I get that some japanese games are too rooted in culture or too obscure/niche to get a translation, but why would you cut off a big market if you already have a translated product?

NO, because I live in the US and I'm stoked for the release; I've got Persona 3:FES and Persona 4 and I've loved both of those games (they're what got me into other SMT/Atlus games).

No. Because I don't know a lick of Japanese, spoken or written. I may be able to get away with that playing Dynasty Warriors from Japan, I doubt I could for such a story heavy RPG.

I'm not sure what you're asking, precisely. Are you living in America, and asking if you should import the Japanese version, or living in Europe, the target of Atlus' legendary hate-boner, and thus asking if you should import the R1/R2 versions?

If it's the former, then as has been said, it depends on your fluency in japanese. I mean, you can probably find translations online that will make the game playable and the plot accessible, though I can't speak for how enjoyable that experience would be. If you're one of those original audio elitist types who can't stand dubs,or if you just can't wait the couple months for the NA release, by all means, go for it.

If it's the latter, then absolutely yes, you should! Seriously, I have no idea how Europe deals with Atlus' wonky release schedule

That depends. I want the version that lets me play the original Japanese audio, but with English subs.

Likely, there's not gonna be one of those, I am waiting on preorderin the JP version in hopes that it comes true but my hopes are not high, to say the least.

No, because I only like to play RPGs on handheld or laptop, because I dislike reading reams of text on TV screens.

Did you teach yourself or did you take classes?

OT: No, it would be a disaster trying to get through the Kanji. Plus I'm not as psyched about it because I miss the P4 crew....I miss Kuma.
Also, I'm not sure if The Day Breakers is like P4: The Animation in which it covers the whole game in around 20 episodes. But if it does, I'm totally watching it first.

Two years of tutoring, then anoher 3 in college as a minor, intersperced with workin on it by myself and language immersion through consumption of media. It's been like over a decade since I started and about 6 years since I could import story heavy games and not worry about missing out on the story. Playing text heavy games wih no speech took longer since learnin kanji takes a while even if your vocabulary is top notch, which is why I had to undub persona, all those side stories and whatnot weren't voiced while FFXIII had literally EVERYTHING, even the random npcs you walked past, fully voiced.

My goodness that's a ton of work. Hats off to you for learning it.

i never finger out why some people perter japanese audio over engilsh i know that english sound bad or whatever but not like that all japanese games must to be japanese voices to be good
