Could just take the storyline of the comic book and set it in Tsarist Russia, or maybe a world war 2 timeline, could be interesting.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Elizabethan Era England and Dutch Revolt Netherlands have awesome Assassin's Creed story potential.

Here's my reasoning from another thread:

Personally, I'd really like to see them do Elizabethan England/Dutch Revolt Netherlands. That era has so many themes present in the other Assassin's Creed games:

Strong female historical figures?: Queen Elizabeth I and Mary Queen of Scots

Brilliant, probably gay best friend?: William Shakespeare

Religious overtones?: These were some of the critical conflicts of the Protestant Reformation

Overarching story of political intrigue and assassination?: The amount of plots and assassination attempts on Queen Elizabeth and William the Silent leave me convinced that they both slept with fingers tightly curled around knives.

Interesting historical figures?: Sir Francis Drake, Sir Walter Raleigh, Christopher Marlowe, Sir Francis Walsingham, Maurice of Orange

Historical Antagonist: King Phillip II of Spain may be no Borgia but he was the most powerful ruler in Europe and a fervent supporter of the Catholic Church who tried to crush the Reformation in both the Netherlands and England and helped give Spain its 'Black Legend'. Or for someone slightly less controversial they could go with Roberto Ridolfi. Look him up, he had a hand in many of the plots against Elizabeth I.

Fun Historical Setting: Well I doubt they could top Venice or Rome but I wouldn't mind climbing all over late 1500s London and Antwerp.

Awesome Factor: How cool would it be to jump from ship to ship taking on the entire frickin Spanish Armada?

Edit: I think the French Revolution and possibly the American War of Independence are far more likely though seeing how the developer is French, the US is a huge market and there were hints at the end of AC: Brotherhood which could be interpreted as suggesting either or both. And I'm perfectly ok with that.

The future. And only the future.

In a world of guns, how well do hidden blades work? In a world of skyscrapers, how feasible is a leap of faith into a dumpster? In a world of police, fingerprints and cameras, how easy will it be to resist arrest and escape? How about THAT for forcing innovation?

Imagine not being able to solely assassinate anymore. Imagine having to craft Ocean's Elevenesque schemes where you play multiple characters doing multiple roles in order to fight back the Templars/retrieve Pieces of Eden from their posession...BEFORE actually killing your mark? Sick as hell.

I think Feudal Japan would be pretty cool. It'd be a whole new culture to explore and a big enough time period to choose from. I also like the idea of a Victorian England mostly because I would love to see the inclusion of Sherlock Holmes somewhere.

Add either of these time periods with more gameplay in Desmond's time to round out the story and I think it would be awesome.

Despite the fact that I'm a huge fan of classical Greece... I wanna see something creative and new.

So, personally, I think that setting it during the Russian Revolution would be awesome.

Because he is in the future, right?

And also, I think maybe the time america was discovered?
No. See spoiler for reason, but Desmond is out as a playable character

I was hoping for the American Civil War. The Templars support (I'm australian so I don't know your history) the slave guys, and you blah blah blah.

At the end of Brotherhood, after a big parkour sequence as Desmond, you chat with a Goddess, she forced you to kill that female wot tells you to do things, then Desmond died... or something... and now lives in the Animus... FOREVER.

I'd said it before in some thread here somewhere, but I'll say it again: Vienna, early 19th century (specifically 1815). First off, that would be both a time period and a place you never really saw before in a video game. Secondly, Vienna is a great city with a lot of beautiful, if also pompous architecture.
But most important is the political background. I specified 1815 because it is the year of the Congress of Vienna. After the Napoleonic Wars, representatives of all the big European dynasties met there to restructure the continent. So you'd have representatives of Prussia, Austria, the other German states, Russia, Great Britain, the reinstated French monarchy and even the Vatican there. Surely some of them died under mysterious circumstances during the Congress?
What those people basically tried to achieve was turning the time in Europe back to before the French revolution. How they tried to suppress democratic ideas and strengthen monarchy would certainly fit Assassin's Creed's theme of control vs. freedom. I'm pretty sure Metternich could make a great villain there, too. And with the revolutions breaking out in again not much later (e.g.. various failed German uprisings in 1848), you could somehow link those to your actions.
Maybe you could also add some other big European metropolises of the time (Berlin, Paris) for some side action.

Czar Russia :3 Of course there is already a friggin comic on a Russian assassin which means they've already tread that ground...I still think it would do better as a game than a comic.

Dark Ages is from around 1200-800 BC(E). Started with the dissapearance of the cretan civilization and ended with the Greek era.

I'd go with baroque though.

I'd like Victorian England.

If it was steampunk-like I want a hidden blade that looks like clock hands are strapped to your arm (without a clock face). At default hidden position they'd all be at 6 (i.e along your arm) but when you wish to draw it, they all spin around quickly in proper proportion to eahcother until they're all at 12 to form the extended blade.

The Templars would probably be supported by the Confederacy (thats the slave guys). You would probably be playing as the Union (the anti-slave guys. Sort of). And that would be pretty cool, actually. You could run around freeing slaves, blowing up giant steam-powered ships, and jumping off of.... er.... Confederacy Towers?

I would say World war I or world war II, because I am a sucker for those time periods and, if implemented well, and as long as it does not turn into some kind of generic shooter, I think it has potential.

I thought this would be original, but I'd love it to be in ancient Egypt. There are big landscapes to explore, you could blend in with slaves and so on. Also, ancient Greece and Rome would be epic.
You can't go forward any more since guns just doesn't fit in AC games.
