goofed. Thought I got the PS2 at launch but FFX wasn't a launch title and I got that at the same time.

Only the PS3 then. God, that was expensive!

My first launch console was the SNES with the Super Mario World tie in. Other than that my siblings and I were always late to the party when it came to consoles and handhelds because we had to wait for our parents to see that we've been missing out on and, as we got older, to save up and get them from the US when we could go. In continuing that trend I just bought a PS3 last year.

The only console I've ever got on launch day was the Gamecube.

I was gonna say something snarky about how it taught me a harsh lesson about day-one buying but I still think Luigi's Mansion is one of best launch titles ever, and considering all the great games that followed relatively quickly after, the Gamecube was probably the last console that was worth getting on launch.

Question: do console variations count? Console variations being things like the Wii Mini, the PS3 Slim, etc. This probably doesn't help me much since, while I did get a PS3 Slim, I think it was after the 3-month release mark...anyway:

Wii U (purchased on day one)

...

I think that's the only one...every other console I've either got second-hand or well after launch. I bought 2 Xbox 360's (2006 - summer and, 2009/2010...some time...), a GBA (gift), a DSlite, DSi, 3DS (ambassador but well after launch), PS2 (bought more than one...both after 2006)...I'm in that really weird income slot occupied by The Simpsons "upper-lower-middle class" so while I am able to hold onto these I have to wait until they're dirt cheap for the most part...

I was going to saw 1 because of the Nintendo DS, but handhelds don't count according to this poll.

I have never bought a console at launch and never will. I worked for EB Games for 4 years and saw 4 launches. Original Xbox, Gamecube, Nintendo DS and 360. Every single time there has been *huge* SNAFUs or malfunctions. Aside from the Gamecube...that was a well built system.

I wait for a few reasons:

1) Mechanical issues that may or may not be present. (PS2 and 360 fail rate, DS dead pixel, Xbox burnout, etc.)
2) List of 3rd party supporters may grow or shrink, thus factoring in long term viability.
3) Industry standard choosing/recommending features. (AKA Sony Blu-Ray vs Microsoft HD-DVD.)

I hold nothing against early adopters. They are the guinea pigs for the industry experiment. Their sacrifice usually leads to my long term happiness (so far).

Just one. There is almost never a game out at launch that I simply have to play (and pay a huge price to do so). The only exception has been the Gamecube because at the time I had a lot of money and because I saw and played a demo unit with Rogue Squadron II.

Not a one. Frankly I find buying anything Day One to be too much of a gamble to be worth it. Even on games that I know will be good or I will buy.

Two. The GameBoy and the Playstation 2.

I generally avoid launch consoles (especially after the PS2) because there's no telling how bad the hardware's first iteration might be.

Yeah, none. I don't think I ever got a console at or near release. I MAY have gotten a Sega Genesis at launch, but I was literally too young to really even be aware that it existed before I got it. Did get it at Christmas, though...

So I'll say that as far as I know, I have never got a console on launch. Guess this will be a first.
Yay!

None. I have never owned a console at all until a couple months ago when someone gave me an "extra" 360 that he had lying around. I have still not even plugged it in, because I cannot stand using controllers.

Two actual consoles, the PS1 and 2. My dad even waited in front of the stores all night to get one, but he always has to have the cutting edge technology. He got a Sega Genesis at launch before I was born. Then my family had all the gameboys at launch, although me and my brother took turns with the newest one (He'd get a pocket, I'd get a color, he got advance, I got SP).

So technically I only had 4, but my family had a lot more. When I started buying my own consoles I would wait for a price drop.

The PS1 my parents got me shortly after it's launch, which I still have. The PS3 I pre-ordered and picked up on launch day, the first console/computer I bought 100% with my own money. Both are still hooked up to my TV in great condition, the latter getting more use though.

None, but I will be getting a PS4 at launch, because Knack looks like it'll be great fun and Killzone just looks gorgeous :)
