Poll: In Your Opinion, What Is The Best FPS Game/Series Ever Made?

I have always loved the Halo series, pretty much everything about it. It has a really epic story that is riddled with metaphor, has an epic Campaign that I can play over and over again, and has the best multiplayer out there.(All of this is just my opinion obviously)

For me it's not about the series, it's about the generation. All of the best was released right around the same time as Unreal Tournament ('99-'01 or so). It went downhill from there... and then Halo was the death knell of the genre.

The first two thirds of Half Life by a mile. This is the game that brought you enemies that used cover, flushed you out with grenades. everything else has been imitations since.

If so it's Half Life by miles and miles and miles...

Counter Strike, DoD, Hidden, Gary's Mod, Minerva, Neo tokyo, Insurgency, Perfect Dark, Goldeneye, Synergy, Zombie Panic!, Stargate, Plan of Attack, the Ship.

The number and breadth of truly excellent pieces of content that have sprung out of Half Life is unrivalled. Half Life itself isn't too shabby either.

Against that Quake and Battlefield games come close, especially Quake and it's seemingly infinite modsphere.
Never mention Call of Duty as the greatest series ever, that's like saying Michael Bay should have an Oscar or two.

Trust me, COD doesn't come close to the others in the list. I was just giving people the option.

Crysis of course. Still the most advanced game technologically out there. It's the game they use to benchmark video cards.

COD must be the best overall. Though the 2 MW games are utterly crap, the WAW and BLOPS more than makes up for it.

HAlf Life, i played it on both pc and xbox, both sucked.

First of all, you should really have ended the question with 'so far'. To think of something as the best EVER hints at an inability to progress past it, which is a really bad mindset to have.

That said, so far I've always considered Pokemon Snap and Portal to be my favorites so far. Sure, you don't shoot guns in either, but it's still first person and you're still 'shooting' something, be it a portal or a snapshot.
