Hello escapist.

I just finished replaying PROTOTYPE again when I looked back on the games I've played, movies I've watched, and books I've read that involve some sort of deadly virus. And I thought to myself, "which is worst?" So to the point. What virus or disease from any form of storytelling, be it a game, a book, a movie, a comic strip, a zoetrope, anything, is the worst of the worst?

Personally my vote goes either to the Blacklight Virus varient DX 1118 A.
Engineered to copy the best biological traits from a host, and instill them in the carrier, when introduced into a host has a delayed kill ratio of 99.999%. When no host is avaliable, the disease can manifest itself in an artifical body several times bigger and more powerful than any human.
Human host after 2 weeks of infection

Hunter, the viruses created body (note this is not to scale, a hunter is several feet over an human.)

Or the Forced Eveloution Virus.

Designed by the encalve goverment in the fallout games to create super soilders capable of incredable feats of strenght and endurance, the forced eveloution virus causes increased growth in both muscle mass and physical reserves. More often than not, the searing pain involved in the process severs the infecteds grap on their mind causing amnesia of their past life and decrease intelligence. However certain host have managed to retain their minds and their wits. When introduced into human hosts, the outcome is almost always a super mutant.

When introduced into lizards, the result is a deathclaw

So escapist, what disease is the worst of the worst?

EDIT: regarding the flood.

The ancient force that wiped out the almight race of forerunners. Even the most minute contact with them result in total compramise of the nervouse system, giving the parasite absolute control over the host body. The only surefire way to destroy the flood in any number is the total destruction of their food source (Sentient creatures with a large enough biomass to infest). This prompted the galaxy wide suicide pill of the halo rings.

Basic form

They also have the ability to generate a body that can change into differnet forms for different kinds of approach to an attack.
'Tank' flood

Controlled by the single largest flood organism, Gravemind.

What began as a simple flood spore, consumed enough sentient minds to grow sentient itself, and assumed control over all flood.

The reason I didnt include them as a choice is that they arent a viral or bacterial agent, they are an organism that uses what eveloution has given them, they are not a disease.

Anybody else have a difficult time playing Prototype on account of the gore? Anyone know of a mod to remove it?

The Zombie Virus ala Max Brooks is the worst due to the grey inevitability of it all.

no idea what the top two are, but the green virus took almost total control in what i assume was a very short period of time, so if worse than the FEV even if the FEV makes more freaky things (although tanks, boomers and smokers are pretty freaky)

yes they did, they also made the G-Virus and the TG Virus. Each surfaced in their own games but I never really saw any difference in the effect as each made zombies haha.

Though I think the G virus turned everyone into a Black hip hop Gangsta, Yeah G!

Personally I think the Worst was the one from 28 Days later. Has the fastest infection rate and the most erratic transition methods.

To me it would depend on what you mean by worst.

If it was to suffer personally, I'd say either blacklight (seems pretty painful), or the necromorph's living infection.

Explanation of necromorph infection:

This is not certainly an infection, but something which occurs around the marker, an artifact which seems to be the source of the necromorphs. Living people who somehow come into contact with the marker experience paranoid delusions, visions of dead loved ones, and endless insomnia. This usually drives victims to suicide. It is my theory that it is some kind of virus, suggested in dead space downfall, and in the animated comics. The necromorph's production happens by the space bats injecting something into dead tissue, but this infection seems to have the purpose of creating dead bodies, the first dead, by forcing them to commit suicide, which can then be harvested by the bats, at which point, further living infected would be pointless, as the first reanimated bodies would kill them.

If you mean as in what would be worst to hit the real world, I'd say green flu.

Explanation:

This is the virus from left 4 dead, nicknamed "green flu" seemingly by "ceda". The advantage this has over other zombie viruses is that it can be spread not only by bites, but by pretty much the same methods as flu, although, the pre-reanimation symptoms are unknown. Posters asking people to wash their hands regularly suggest the bacteria can survive on surfaces for quite some time, meaning that not becoming infected would be alot harder than simply not being bitten, even the unturned infected would pose a threat, and it's not so easy to tell who they are. The incubation rate seems to vary, bitten infected can turn within minutes, or within days, making containment difficult. Immunity exists, but it is extremely low, and worse, these immunes could carry the virus. Even if you were immune, the sheer amount of infected would be enough to simply kill you. That's even forgetting the special infected, who seem almost designed to defy any biological containment. Tanks would crach through any wall, while hunters would simply jump over them. boomers would make clean up an issue, smokers and jockeys would make military barricades difficult to keep together. Meanwhile, chargers and spitters would kill countless already besieged survivors. Even with such vague details, such a virus could easily wipe the world out within months, years if we were lucky.

*Slaps 'silver wolf009' directly on the face.*

*A resonating 'thwap' soon follows.*

Nah, I'm just kidding, but seriously though... You're making an "infection" thread in a video game forum without ever playing Resident Evil. =/

I was under the impression that the G-Virus was simply a mutation of the T-Virus. The T-Virus remained as-is, and very prevalent amongst the G-Virus infection. The T-Virus continued it's inevitable zombie population transformation, and the G-Virus was tasked with mutating to a higher level, as seen in Resident Evil 2 with the gator in the sewer, and other mutated monstrosities.

The G-Virus turned things into veiny mutated behemoths. But it didn't always affect those already infected with the T-Virus.
