If im entirely honest I was never going to get the game in the first place after how horrible Black Ops and it's PC support was.

The attitude some people have in this thread makes me sick, the man is standing up for what he believes in by not getting the game and you're acting like he's being stupid, it's called backbone, perhaps you should get one instead of laying down and letting the big publishers keep on screwing you and the rest of us over by repeatedly releasing the same shoddy, half arsed games.
So creating a pointless thread about issues that are beyond petty on a forum totally unrelated to his problem is showing backbone and not complaining about pointless bullshit and purchasing games YOU don't like is "letting big publishers screw us over"?

How's the view from that Ivory Tower of yours? I'm afraid us plebs down here with our unrefined tastes can't quite tell. But I'm sure you have a busy day of taking each and every update and new nugget of information that you don't approve of as a personal insult and slap to the face.
Let me get things straight before I discuss where my problems lie with the big publishers (code for Activision, EA, and Ubisoft):

We are on a forum (and a gaming forum at that, making his post not so unreated), that means that if the poster believes he has something that would be discussed then he is within his right to post it, given that we have four pages of replies to the thread then surely that means that he is right and people are talking about it.

My problem isn't about Call of Duty, it's about the attitude publishers have towards their customers, every release of a game seems to be buggy, they charge silly prices for DLC, they treat their paying customers like criminals (DRM), and it seems every year the quality of games is sliding as they try to do as little work as possible to make the maximum profit.

It's not only the customer that gets it bad either, the developers of these games get a fraction of the profits made from it and god help them if a game doesn't do well, they'll be out of the job in a flash.

Anyway, if you want the game and feel it's worth it to you personally feel free to get it, it's your money and your hobby but for me I don't think they're giving me enough for what they're asking.

Just as a final note, I admit I did go preacher in that post, I apologise for that and have edited it accordingly.

Wow, you are so petty. Yes, you can't level up in a dedicated server, but then that's entirely the point. If you and your friends just want to play with each other for fun then go nuts, but if you honestly expect that you guys will gain online experience points in what is ostensibly a PRIVATE match, then you are crazy, because if this were the case everyone could simply make a random match for themselves and a spare controller and then get all the bonuses for their preferred weapons with absolutely no effort. It would render the entire point of levels and challenges moot.

Aside: And might I add that they did effectively the same thing with both Black Ops and MW2 by having a separate leveling save for private matches, thereby ensuring that your online challenges and statistics were actually accurate.
It's a public server that we would run, much like CoD4. It is NOT a private match. We would run this server, with the map rotation we like, and leave it open to the public, just as we did in CoD 4. the only difference is that Infinity Ward have decided that we're not allowed to use the ranking system any more. That's taking out a sizeable portion of the fun.
No it's taking out a sizeable portion of the ability to mess with the rankings. When you can build your own personal list of maps, you can stack the odds in your favour by picking maps and settings that enhance your playstyles 4eg picking the big maps for your sniper class (and lets be honest, with the CoD fanbase as it is, this will almost certainly be abused). Multiplayer with a designated ranking system is designed to be random so that the player's individual skills are the only thing that are being tested. If you want the challenge, then you have to run the gauntlet, but if you're simply wishing to play with friends, then private matches are the only fair way to go.
