Keep that hair short...

Oh god, not more feels.
Now there's gonna be two grown men crying in the corner and for once it's not going to be about the moderation here.

Wait, Vault got banned? What the hell for?
This.

Bearing in mind under the rules system, she was on a "final warning" for quite some time. A lot of people (I imagine you must have seen the avatars) are not happy with it, but I haven't heard of any appeal attempt on her part.
Okay that's ridiculous. I mean if she was really trying to hurt someone or what have you then fine. But "oh noes, she called me a CRYBABY" and she gets banned? That's pretty bullshit.

Circlejerk?

Lets begin.
See I look at posts like these and wonder how in the world they aren't considered low content. Is it because the off-topic conversation started on-topic and it's allowed to trickle down?

Not judging, now I'm seriously curious. I mean look, it's 3 words.

Off topic, thread derailment, posting memes, not enough fear, quote pyramids, inverted smilies, crude humor...

Man, I'm glad I'm not the poor sap who has to slap warnings on some forum superstars in a moderation feedback thread. :D

I find the moderation here pretty cool, though I do see bits of overkill. And I do kinda wish the mods interacted with the community a bit more.
It's hard to stay active in forums when they soak up all your browsing time with moderation issues (chewing through the mod queue, reading threads for context, maybe reading some other threads out of personal interest... Then realizing you've already spent several hours on the forums today...) :(

Mod burnout is a tough issue, it's really easy to drift away from the fun parts of a community once you start helping with its maintenance.

Dear GOD, yes.

Because I will see so many people get away with the most condescending, inflammatory, and just outright insulting posts and yet they won't get so much as a warning while benign posts or parody posts or posts from people who actually back up what they're saying without insulting anyone get some long-term people who just make this forum a better place banned.

I've had people send me inflammatory messages and the mods did NOTHING when I sent them copies of the messages. They even said they would do nothing :(

It's also extremely hypocritical how people are modded sometimes. There are more than a few contributors to the escapist (in terms of producing videos and articles) who have admitted to piracy and even encouraged (though indirectly) it. Yet if someone even brings it up as something they've ever done or wanted to do at all then they immediately get a mark against them on the forum health meter :(

I don't get it.

Why can they say it but we can't?

If you see a post requires attention, report it! We can't do our jobs if nobody reports posts that break the forum rules!

How along ago did this happen? Remember that things are a lot different from a few years ago. New mods, new community manager etc. If it is still an issue then please feel free to PM me your concerns.

From the Code of Conduct;

"Regardless of what some of our content creators may say, do or provoke within their videos or articles, this does not give members the ability to act in the same way. They are entertainers and if they brought their language or flaming into the forums, they would be held accountable, just as any other forum member of The Escapist would be."

I've been a member of the Escapist for almost 7 years.

I have never once recieved a warning - much less a ban.
In fact, I have N-E-V-E-R recieved a warning nor a ban anywhere.
You are speaking as if not getting a warning is an impossible feat - it is NOT.

Just don't be a dick. It is really astonishingly simple.

This is mostly true, but dude, you've got 811 posts after seven years. Most people blow through that many in their first six months, which makes not getting a warning in that time a lot less impressive :p

Also, holy crap, someone with a pre-2008 join date. You don't see that often. I don't think I've ever seen one pre-2007 for that matter, despite the site and forums having existed since 2003 or 2004. Heck, pre-2011 join dates are getting rare. Kind of says something about the rate at which people are banned, doesn't it?

Edit: I do note the irony of someone with a 2004 join date being a few posts up, but it's Kross. He's a long time staff member, not a long time user.

Not visiting =/= banned.

There are many "older" members who simply do not post any more, either because they got fed up with the level of drama, or moved onto other things. It's not like getting in trouble is the only "way out".

Context is everything.

If Sass had posted that on it's own, yeah, that would probably be low content.

But it's at the end of a discussion chain, which is different from simply posting an image macro and 2 words on their own.

I got a warning, too.

But it is fine, I'll just pay more attention to not post low content posts I think mine was only 1-3 words or so.
I guess that might also be blocked by having a script count the number of words/letters in a post and only let the post be posted if people are over that treshold. But that might also lead to the /10char, tencharacters, etc. you can see on other forums.

Harsh moderation with transparency about which warnings and how many you got is much better than poorly moderated forums.

i got warned 3x on seperate occasions for saying the word that Rymes with Roll. Saying that I dont buy Jrpg cause of my dislike of Japanese due to atrocious things done to my family and a few others. Dislike as you will with my opinion I gave a valid reason at the time and was called a racist and a bigot by 3/4 of the escapist community.
I agree that the admins are sadly over-zealous with the warning button and I wonder how many people posting with similar circumstances are going to get another warning.

I've not seen a single post where somebody was suspended or banned that was actually justified.
Not one.
I see people getting warned and banned for using slightly impolite language, but only when they are disagreeing with the prevailing opinion in the thread, if they are agreeing then it's fine.
The opinion I have seen on other forums is that The Escapist forums are a circlejerk, and from what I have seen so far I certainly agree.
It's definitely not a place to discuss topics, because if you are found to be disagreeing with the popular opinion then it's only a matter of time before somebody finds something to ban you for.
If that were really true, then your post would be enough to get a warning, wouldn't it?

After all, you are basically saying that you have never seen the staff here give somebody a suspension or ban that they deserved. Or in other words, you do not believe that they are moderating the forums properly based upon your personal experience.

The fact that you are allowed to say that without getting in trouble shows your opinion to be inaccurate.
