I wouldn't say it's hate as much as a lack of understanding.

OT: I dislike it when people put obviously no effort into their OP. Things such as failing to use the searchbar, polls that don't work, no discussion value, less than a sentence of text, no images or BBcode when applicable...

It's a general gripe, not one aimed at anyone in particular. I could see how it might possibly be taken as a jab, but it doesn't really apply. Sure this thread's been done before, but there's been a reasonable amount of time, and the internet's always a-changin'. Otherwise, it's a highly functional thread.

Stupidity, ignorance and laziness (not reading before posting) combined with an urge to be heard and a lack of self-censorship bother me most, so I voted "other".

From the list, I think I would go for animated gifs. I don't mind bad grammar and spelling as long as it is at least somewhat accidentally. People who won't bother with punctuation and capitalization are idiots.

People who start raging over every little thing. Seriously, life would be a lot more fun if you could just let some things slide. The whole Portal 2 DLC things is a good example of this; people getting their knickers in a twist for no god damn reason.

Just... Chill.

Am fyne with perty much nething cept 4 gran-ma & speelin & ppl typing in fke accents like dis & shrtnd wrds.

It doesn't have to be perfect just understandable. I could care less about defending the English Language's sometimes obscure grammar rules; it's more so my brain doesn't hemorrhage when I try to read your post and go cross eyed. If nothing else do it so that you are able to be understood and people don't just ignore or ./pants your post.

People who post in a topic without reading the opening post and even say that they havent read the opening post in their comment. I mean come on people i'm not asking you to read 20 pages of the thread but atleast read one post regardless of how long it is before posting.

And if its a discussion thread then you really need to read or skim read the majority of the replies so you can actually contribute meaningfully to the discussion.

(Also i'd like it to be known that i have not read the opening post when posting this)

People who go on youtube videos or fan pages of bands and artists just to say that they're crap and that they hate them. Seriously what the hell? Also people who refuse to accept anyone elses opinion but their own. If you're not gonna listen to anyone why bother talking to them?

Not so much of an issue here, considering we don't have signatures, but people who have signatures with tons of pictures and gifs. My internet is shit. Don't make it shitter.

On that note, I also can't stand it when people try to do the signature thing here. It drives me crazy, and really makes no sense. Same with boring gimmicks. The only gimmicks I've really been OK with was Jack and Calumon, and the guy who acts like a US politician. I can't remember his name, but I find him hilarious. Stuff like always making your text a different colour is lame.

Otherwise, it can really be summarised by this dude:

The first two listed piss me off to Oblivion. I'll list three other peeves I have.

Excessive Effemitive-ness: I can understand if you're a chick and all [http://www.sacrificialbishop.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/tits-or-gtfo.jpg], but to gentlemen and male-ish females; what is the point of it? What do you gain from spamming images of damn ponies or consciously acting offended or motherly? I want discourse, not dribble on feelings or superficial, exaggerated pleasantries.

Eg.: "Oh hey everyone cheer up! Here's a pony macro! ISN'T CHARLIE BIT MY FINGER CUTE!!!?? :D <3"

Surrealism: Oh ha-ha. You saw Monty Python/The Day Today. You saw something called surrealism. What are you doing with that dead horse? Oh. You're being ironic and edgy are you? Get the fuck out of here, you hipster ****-nose.

Eg.: "So yeah man I saw an elephant fall from the sky and into my lawn. Man isn't it an allegory for how the Republicans oppress us?"

Wapenese/Weeabos: Oh look, your avatar is from some bloody anime no-one bloody cares about. Oh look, you're going to flash images and references in my face constantly, while looking down at me due to the fact I have no interest in this shit? I don't bloody care who Hiyota-San is! I don't give a shit about the theme tune to Elfen Lied! I've never watched bloody Hangura-Death-Note-Tawaka-Pwooto on some vague network owned by MTV!

Alright, video games come from Japan, I get it. But I don't want to have this pointless Japanese crap thrown at me, or be secretly ostracised for not caring. And seeing as the rubbish thrown at me is usually either crappy surrealism or effeminate garbage, it makes me silently rage.

Eg.: Cosmic can't provide an example. He has broke his PC in rage.

Peeps acting as if their IQ was at the high tip of 180. And especially when they are stubborn and calling everyone dumb.

Than, being the arbitrator that I am, I have to waste my god-damn fucking time explaining to them nicely about how ignorant they truly are and give contradiction to their claims with arguments undaunted.
It's like killing a colossus in Shadow of the Colossus. Seems near fucking impossible, but SOMEONE has to drag them down for the good of someone.

You wouldn't believe this, but I meet them on a regular basis - in PC games, of all platforms! What the nelly!
This never happens on my console! Thus, I spend my time at the console most of the time. Just gameplay and a nice cup of STFU for everyone.
... Yeah.

Also, certain atheists that is not exactly shy to sprout out their opinions as if they were objective standpoints; fucking facts.
Than I
sigh, start arbitrating, give reasonable arguments, rinse, repeat for the next loudmouth. And again, this happens more often than it should.
ON THE PC PLATFORM! FUUU--!

No worries, I took no offence. My search-fu is extremely weak and revealed only tangentially related topics.

My biggest internet peeve right now is this damn CAPTCHA nonsense the Escapist is encumbering us with.

Personally, I have three; bad grammar, trolling and people being unjustly accused of trolling.

I don't mind typos, we all make them and, not meaning to sound xenophobic or ageist, I wouldn't expect someone new to the language to have perfect spelling/grammar but there are limits to these things (ie. if, for example, English is your first language and/or you've had 14+ years of experience with it, there's really no excuse for a completely unintelligible post, barring certain deficiencies/difficulties).

Trolling for the sake of trolling, *sigh* I'm not gonna tell you what you already know, let's just leave it at rolling our collective eyes and move on.

Accusing someone of trolling simply because you disagree with them is... Well... Let's face it, it's just hypocritical.

I really dislike it when people can't write properly on the internet. Correct grammar and sentence structure is not difficult

My current peeve, as I've seen it a lot recently, is people using the phrase 'would of'. This is not a phrase. I can see where it's come from, but that does not make it any more valid. It should be 'would have' as it's obviously come from would've, which is shortened from 'would have'

Well that covers most bases.

I also hate anyone who is not willing to accept that there is another side of the argument. If you don't want to discuss something properly, don't contribute to the discussion.
Oh and with regards to the 2nd option (i.e. deliberate spelling mistakes): to anyone who "t4lk5 l33t coz i haz d0n3 ur mum" ... really? are you that childish?

People who just plain sound ignorant. This includes intentionally bad spelling ( when it's clear they ain't even trying. Stuff like "lol u iz sooooo gay 4 choozin battlefeeld ovar blak ops! Thums up if u agree!) and the usage of gay as an insult. It always points out stupidity. I wouldn't mind so much, but I've never seen anyone who spells like that say anything that isn't cruel or just plain stupid. In fact, it's usually both.

When you try and post something for a serious discussion, but it gets hijacked by whatever is popular at the moment. I.E ponies. For me its the same as what the person above said about Wapanese. I don't care about the ponies. If you do, I don't mind, just don't force feed it to me every time I want to talk on the forums.

I can understand why it's irritating, but I prefer it to having to wade through spam to find anything relevant. I'm new(-ish) to this site so I don't really know if it's ever been much of a problem, but if it stops the spam I'm happy with it.

... oops I've got to do the captcha thing before I post this, how fitting.

Rule 34. I'm fine with most things on the internet, but Rule 34 is my personal kryptonite.

Scratch that, it's not kryptonite, it just makes me rage.
