wait whats being censored? porn, piracy, kiddie porn?
According to the OP's link, the list of blocked sites is secret. That's a pretty major red flag right there...
The list is available on wikileaks.

it seems to work fine in China
Yes and no. What makes it so effective is that there are a large number of ignorant (NOT stupid people) who have no ambition to search for certain things because they do not know it is there or have be misled into believing it is something else. On the other hand for a large, possibly even believably the majority, they have found ways to dodge or outright circumvent these restrictions and as a result are not inhibited by a multimillion dollar censorship strategy. If only there was a way to do the same thing with that crap they call papers and the news. Information should be as free as air.

I am rather general in my words since I am no expert and wish not to appear to know more than I do.
yeah my china comment was sarcasm :) cause chinese internet censorship is the gay. classic example is if you search for tiananmen square you get pictures of tiananmen square instead of pictures of a guy standing up to a colomn of tanks etc

Shouldn't have voted Labor.
Too bad the Libs fucked up this time round with their campaigning.

Bring back Johnny H.

There is no way this will get past the House of Reps. The Greens don't want a filter and I'm pretty sure the independents would vote against it.

Conroy's little pet project is just too broken to get through. They will end up giving half the proposed filter spend to the AFP and be done with it. Maybe an ad campaign to tell parents they are responsible for their children's internet habits not the government.

Well this is it guys, Next month my internet is going to be Censored, Slowed down %80 and won't stop any sick pedophiles from accessing child porn.
The worst thing I think about it is that Julia Gillard and Conroy reckon that if I don't support the filter, I'm a Pedophile.
What do you think about Internet Censorship?
EDIT: Here's some info on what the filter will do.
http://nocleanfeed.com/
This is old news and was stopped in its tracks a while ago unless you have some new information that says otherwise? Another note, where did you pull 80% from? Yeah it would have had some impact on speeds, but not even remotely close to what you're talking about.

Slowed down 80%

Internet is cancer, I think I'd like it to disappear. (not being sarcastic, and not trolling, its simply my opinion).

What.

Misogynistic Catholics and scabs who insist on being annoying instead of doing anything constructive. Yep, definitely not worse than who we have now.

What exactly did the Rudd Labor government do that was constructive?

The 80% comes from tech analysis of the different schemes Conroy and Co were looking at to implement ISP level filtering. It came from number crunching not field testing.

1. Signed the Kyoto Protocol.
2. Apologised to the Stolen generations, something that a certain PM refused to do.
3. Dismantled Work Choices (thank fucking God)
4. Withdrew a great portion of personnel from the (fruitless) Iraq War.
5. Pretty much avoided us from going into recession.
6. Reformed healthcare
7. Held the 2020 Summit.

Satisfied?

1. Signed the Kyoto Protocol.
And what plans have they put in place to achieve this?
2. Apologised to the Stolen generations, something that a certain PM refused to do.
And how much better are the lives of these people now? I'm thinking roughly no better.
3. Dismantled Work Choices (thank fucking God)
Work Choices was only bad for workers with no skills, no work ethic who are easily replaceable.
4. Withdrew a great portion of personnel from the (fruitless) Iraq War.
Not a constructive contribution.
5. Pretty much avoided us from going into recession.
Courtesy of the strong economy handed to them by the previous Howard government.
6. Reformed healthcare
Did that actually happen? Or did they just say it was going to happen?
7. Held the 2020 Summit.
Mere words, not at all constructive.

Satisfied?
If I was satisfied, I would've voted Labor.

This will not stand for long, it's impossible to censor the internet. Greater nations have tried and failed (okay maybe not GREATER but still they didn't work).
