IT's not just "is a gun a good thing to have?" because for a lot of people, no it's not. But at the same time, there are competent people out there where having a handgun or tazer could be an effective self defence method.

Now Khell I pretty much agree with everything you just said but there is one point I'd like to mention and that?s how the guns are kept in the house. I'm all for making sure some kid doesn?t put a hole in himself with one of my guns but gun locks can be hazardous. If someone breaks into my home I don't want to have to fumble around for a key so I can retrieve the weapon then open another container so I can load it. It's a good idea on paper but in practice it seems to put me at the disadvantage.
I'm personally for gun rights. Everyone should be able to get one because if someone really wants one, they'll find one. However, there should be regulations on who can own one, and mandatory tests to keep legal ownership every year or so. Extensive records should be kept on who has one, with helpful reminders to re-register on time.
As for me, I'll probably never own a gun. I have a nice 4.5 foot long by inch thick solid steel rod that feel off my desk at home. If I hear someone break into my house, they better notice me before I'm close enough because I'll start with the ribs or nose. Guns aren't good when you're writhing in pain on the ground.

Khell you make some pretty good points and I agree with you for the most part. It always is a good idea to keep firearms away from the young ones until their old enough to fully comprehend what exactly they can do. I can never stress it enough to people who own guns that they need to teach their family members how to be safe around firearms. The shotgun and eventually the handgun are the only two weapons that will not be locked. The shotgun will remain under the bed and the handgun will either go under the pillow or the nightstand.
