Word of advice: if you're going to buy one, get one in a few weeks. September 1st, you can get the new Slim PS3, with 50% more memory (120 GB) and less exhaustive power usage. Oh, and it'll be cheaper. No reason not to wait a bit.

Personally, I don't like any of Sony's franchises or exclusives, or the way they work, so the Xbox is better for me, but your mileage may vary. If you enjoy the games, go for it.

its a good games console its got some good exclusives ive only got two gripes with it the interface is clunky and you cant play music on it whilst ingame and the fact theres very little games that indulge in the hypergore on it, case in point ninja gaiden on ps3 people dont bleed the shoot out blue flames instead which is rather lame.

though mgs4 completely redeems everything as i am indefinately in love with that game.

How are we supposed to decide if a PS3 is worth it for you? Thats like me coming on here and asking if I like Taco Bell.

If there are enough exclusives you want that warrent you shelling out $300 for then sure it's worth it.

Additionally, the PS3's online play is free, unlike xbox live, which actually increases the effective price of the 360. Additionally, the PS3 exclusives and graphics are better than the 360 and with the drop in price next month, a much better deal. Besides, it doubles as a blueray player which beats the 360's HD-DVD player which is obsolete.

Do you play Halo 3 with your friends? If you do so at their houses, you may as well get something different. If they all meet up online then you would be missing out. It could also be seen as a snub. Talk to them. Tell them that you are thinking of getting a console with games that they can come over to your house to play Split-Screen, that are different from the ones they can play.

- Killzone 2
- Resistance 2
- Metal Gear Solid (Multiplayer)
- Little Big Planet*

*personally, at the moment only this last one appeals, and I feel that you need at least 3 games of real quality to justify a console purchase.

Also depends if you have HD TV and want to start paying the high prices of Blu-Ray discs. Sky+ HD is worth a look, or Apple TV.

Bought a PS3 a few weeks ago, and it has been great. Definitely get it, if you can comfortably afford it and a few games.

So the exclusives are better because you say so? Or am I missing something at this point?

Here where I live (Switzerland :p) PS3 games are also usually 10-20CHF more than xbox games.
Oh and I might just be lucky but I have 2 360's (and a Wii by God I'm not a fanboy D:), and one has been going for 2.5+ years and the other for 1.5+ years, while my PS2 broke after 2 months and 3 of my friends with PS3s all had it break at least once. (one of em had to get it repaired 3 times :/)
But then that's just my experience. Oh and also use one of those controllers before you buy it, I just can't get over the shoulder buttons (triggers or whatever the hell they are, they're uncomfortable and awkward).

Back to my point from my earlier post, I have a lot of barely used PS2 games that I wouldn't mind playing, but peer pressure (hah) is urging me to buy a ps3, and I definitely won't buy both.

I also got to play enough ps3 exclusives over the last few months / year, and I must say I'm glad I chose the xbox. Of course it just depends on your taste, but I had no fun with Killzone 2, Uncharted, MGS4, or Linger in Shadows. While on the other hand, any time we get together for a 3 day system link / general console nerding, we have all consoles available (twice for system link) but we always (even though the ratio of PS3 to xbox guys is usually 6:2) end up playing a hell of a lot more xbox. Then again that's just because PS3 owners around here don't buy many games (so not that many options for system link or split screen in general). We end up playing Wii (or should I say Brawl) more than ps3.

Well I ended up rambling (and using a shit ton of brackets).

Edit:

I have a PS3 and I love it. Biggest con is that all my friends own only a Xbox360, thus me being left in the dark a lot.
I'm exactly in the oppisite position of you
I feel your pain.

I wish I could be on the fence on this one. I've played a PS3 and its a sight to behold! Incredible! But on the other hand, is some more shiny objects really worth the extra few hundred? And for a long while, there weren't that many games out now. Although that's gonna change BIG time this year, if gossip be true.
But also gossip says that companies are leaning away from PS3 production, since the layout is so expensive to make; square enix for example. So may be games won't improve as much as an Xbox. But then again, games are games.
So hang on to that money for a bit, and see what this Xmas season yields.

PS3 is awesome.

Plus, you'll have something to play when your xbox goes Red light of Death, because you know it will. They all do.

Of course. The PS3 is awesome! It has more exclusives than the 360 and if you want one, don't let your XBot friends tell you otherwise.

I've got both and I really do have to admit that I play my Xbox a LOT more than the PS3. There are some nice exclusives and everything, but when it all came down to shine the only reason I got a PS3 is because it matched my living room. It's a great system in it's own right if you like gaming alone. The online gaming on the 360 feels a lot smoother, not to mention there are ACTUALLY people to play with. Street Fighter IV on the PS3 is so much slower than its 360 counterpart. They're both good systems and the PS3 is worthwhile, but if you had to get one before the other, I'd say 360 it.

Yes, that you have to pay for.

Now the prices are similar, exclusives are better (imo) and they have much better reliability I say go for it.

But a lot of people wouldn't, and ps3 online really isn't that bad.
(grammar fix too; don't blame me, I can't help it.)
