The concept of playing with 256 players hasn't impressed me anymore but I still really like MAG.

Not amazing or anything but a very entertaining shooter.

The last option in the poll makes me laugh at the irony.

While I do agree that 256 players is pretty amazing for a mulitplayer shooter, at the end of the day, it pretty much means 255 assholes.
Well doesn't someone think highly of themselves?

I thought it was cool back in 2003 when planetside came out.
It still is cool and I still believe MMOFPS will overtake the MMORPG gaming market in the next ten years.

Yes, we had PlanetSide in 2004 support several hundred players in a single zone. If the mechanics and scale are implemented correctly- it is truly an amazing experience. I remember flying over one battle with hundreds of infantryman behind cover on opposing sides of a valley, with multicolored tracer fire criss-crossing back and forth. That image showed me the future.

So why is MMOFPS taking so long? There are problems with the business model that need to be fleshed out better for one. Two- no one is really interested in developing for the PC right now, which is where these games do belong. Three- current consoles are somewhat lacking in supporting these types of games, hardware-wise. The xbox360 is going on 5 for chrissakes.

You will see many more massive shooters on the next wave of consoles. Probably on the next xbox.

It really sucks having been given a taste of the future in 2004, only to watch that game turn to shit because of SoE's mismanagement in under 3 years... and then have nothing like it come out ever again.

Sigh MAG makes me wish I had a Ps3,

Sadly, even though I am in college, and have an office job(intimating I have the resources to buy it) If my parents heard about it, they would have a cow. Even if I did just buy a 400$ Ipod they didn't even blink.

Yes they are a pain, but I love them :)

I'll have to drive the point home that it is a blue-ray player...hmm yes that may work...

EDIT: Also, there is always Huxley to look forward to for us Xboxers!

Remember when Resistance 2 was hailed as groundbreaking for having 60 players at once?

Well, MAG skullfucked that.

Pretty good game too.
Wait, Resistance 2 was hailed as groundbreaking? By who? Seriously, it's got a 2 in it's name.

Well, in my own opinion, and after careful consideration, I must say that they're absolutely fantastic. Shit is blowing up everywhere, airstrikes coming in, snipers blowing my mates head off, medics running round like headless chickens trying to save my useless arse. Essentially, fun.
This post alone wants me to give the game a try. Sounds bloody awesome.

I actually like larger games, because running around unable to find anyone is obnoxious, though that is a lot...I want to try mag but am poor T.T

Never seen more than about 10 enemies at once.

I don't really like the game, either. No point of joining RAVEN or VALOR, and it feels too stiff.

Wait what? Really? Battlefield had 64 at once, with vehicles and all. What was special about Resistance 2?
Resistance 2 was a ps3 exclusive and the first on consoles I believe to have 64 players.

Current sales are average-ish for MAG so we'll see if the population and servers are sustainable. It'll depend on if MAG can attract MW2 players. It certianly does not attract me that much, I like FPS but am far from a pro and kind of went causal after Halo3.

Without any off line portion to practice (come on thats all MW and MW2 story lines were for) as non-pro player i'd just be one-shot one kill causal nooby meat, which isn't excatly worth $70 for a game.

Certainly I'm not sure if I'd trust a random squad of 200 ppl (well 20 or so for your sub squad); a squad of 8 to 16 can be bad enough; The larger the crowd the more likely there's idots, statistics and human psychology take over. Though MAG may a good place for you and all your facebook random friends to play something other than farmville or mafia wars.

I would never play anything over 32 players TOTAL in one game because anything bigger would just feel less. I like it when I meet 2 or more players that become my rivals in the game and I find it gets less when the games get bigger. Killzone 2 is my limit. I like to feel that I stand out in a game and not get murdered countless times just because there's players everywhere and get lucky kills. Also I feel the tide of the battle more in smaller games (6 on 6 or 5 on 5 I prefer). In CoD and Halo you can feel when you're losing and when you're winning and also when it's close. It's just more rewarding when you kill a guy you know rather than just a guy that happens to be on the opposing team.
I found with MAG you end up with rival squads, which makes it all the more sweeter when you and a couple of squad members ambush the fuckers and take out their entire squad :D

My problem with this game is that I tend to play where my friends are and I'm the only one that owns a PS3 and a 360, and they are all getting Bad Company 2 when it comes out so I will have to wait till this drops in price before I pick it up. But it does look pretty damn sweet.

It's a cool game and all, but the upgrade menu is ugly as hell.

Also, you should be able to spend points in an individual class. I have to specialise completely, instead of having a sniper, a medic, etc.
