I count him as a Superhero, he does heroic things in a Super-fashion regardless of or being human.

I think that civilians in the DC Universe believe him to have super powers.

When you think of it Superman can't do anything that any other Kryptonian can't do.

Where is the argument?
A hero is somebody who runs and grabs a kid who wandered into incoming traffic.
A superhero is somebody who can single-handedly and non-lethally disarm a group of armed thugs and leave them tied up together for the police to find.

I always have looked at him like a vigilante, especially in some of his darker editions.

Would you call the The Joker a villain or a supervillain? If you said villain because he doesn't have superpowers, you deserve a mouthful full of joker gas. A superhero is not defined solely by his power but his willingness to go above and beyond to do what is right. In my eyes, Batman is not just a superhero but the biggest superhero ever.

Batman basically does have powers. It's more true of Iron Man who can fly and shoot lasers out of his hands - that sounds like a superhero to me. The technology they have more or less gives them superpowers. Spiderman's main "power" is his web which he made himself. Where do you draw the line?

Right so after my geography exam and before my history one me and a friend argued about batman. She said he didnt have powers, so he was a regular 'hero' and i said by that logic iron man isnt a super hero, and that i will not stand for.

Anyway the debate snowballed until everyone and their dog had an opinion, so escapist, is batman a superhero?

BTW escapist, what the hell happened to my poll? there was a 'no' option!
movie iron man isent one, comic book iron man IS since he has some alien power mumbo jumbo as far as im informed.

but yes, batman is more of a hero then a super one. he just has slick stuff and enquipent. kind of like the a-team, but with enough money. lol.

Ask just about anyone who knows a damn about superheroes, they'll tell 'hell yes'.

One of the many things that makes Batman so iconic is that he was one of the very 1st superheroes, both within his fictional universe and within the real world, to attain immense cultural status despite lacking any powers.

Of course if you want to get pedantic about the term 'superhero', then yes he is not a 'super'hero, because he does not have any 'super'powers.
Just to get really pedantic, the term "super-hero" is a bit of a ret-con. They tended to be called "costumed crime-fighters" or some such in the early days, since a large chunk of the earliest heroes did not have super-powers. Super-hero was a term copyrighted by DC & Marvel.

Super-hero is more a state of mind in my opinion. The mythological characters all have super-powers, but aren't considered super-heroes. Dracula had super-powers, but wasn't considered a super-villain. The Exorcist & Omen didn't treat the subject matter as a super-powers, so it's the occult. While Buffy The Vampire Slayer & Angel did treat the subject matter like super-powers, so they're both thinly disguised super-hero shows. While mythological characters like Hercules & Thor are only super-heroes when super-hero writers get their grubby hands on them... but they turn everyone into super-heroes, including Bruce Lee inspired martial arts characters.

It depends entirely on who's writing him I think. In the (often terrible) main comic series isn't he depicted as having physical and mental capabilities that are at the peak of human potential or some such bullshit? IE he can run as fast as an olympic sprinter and punch like Mike Tyson. All of those things together make him sound pretty 'super' (as in abnormal) to me.

I'd say he does have a power... He doesn't ever appear to need to sleep!!! He works all day, (he must do to earn those millions, otherwise he would be overthrown by his comittee board for being a jack layabout, and earning millions for no work) and then appears to be Batman all night! So he must then have a power!? The power of eternal energy?

What's that quote? Any sufficiently advanced technology can be perceived as magic? I'm paraphrasing here but Batman is a super-hero just by kicking ass physically and with his gadgets.

I'd say his bat-cave/car/equipment/money alone would make him a superhero.
Using Arthur C Clarke to justify Batman's super-status -> Sheer win

Batman does have powers. His detective abilities are absolutely superhuman, to the point where Superman only trusts Batman to take him out if Lex Luthor uses mind control or a "make Superman evil" ray.

I don't think so, he's a normal guy relying on his own physical ability and a few gadgets. Ironman has power armor, Batman has his fists, a rope, and a grappling hook.
