If you can take a punch from a super villian where you go through a concrete wall and can get up from that, then yes, you are super.

A hero fights these:

A super-hero fights these:

Batman fights all of those things. Yeah, I think he qualifies as a superhero.

Superpowers would make the ability to fight crime absolutely trivial. Do you think Superman ever thinks twice for his own safety before saving the world? He was never in any danger. Batman does what is right, without relying on such abilities. He is a hero. But, more to the point his heroism transcends normal human expectations and thus becomes super.

In a less ethereal argument- it's been noted that his strength, intuition and agility are much greater than of an average human, and so can be considered super human.

can he hold his own against superman??
yes, yes he can. He has actually beat the ever-loving shit out of superman about six times at this point... Hell, the guy has a database on how to kill/disable every hero and villain in the world, including himself(not to sure on that bit)yeah, batman's a superhero, what else can you call him?

I say yes, he's a superhero.

I'd say he's more of a superhero than Superman. Look at it this way; superman is pretty much invincible. Standing infront of a bullet isn't heroic because it'd do jack shit to him anyway, he has powers that make him dangerous. That isn't heroic.

Heroic is doing that type of thing knowing all well that it'd kill you.

A hero is someone who will endanger themselves in the name of justice or to save the life of another.

Batman does this frequently so I think the title 'Superhero' is justified.

Not really. He doesn't really have super powers and his misuse of his money and talents casts doubt upon the 'hero' part of the equation...

Reginald D Hunter explains it best:

More seriously though, he probably is because he does Superhero type things and appears in Superhero comics as an equal with other Superheroes... although I can't escape the feeling that he's a bit of a dick.

I wouldn't say he is a superhero because a superhero must have some kind of abnormality, right? Batman has trained his body to be near it's limits and is pretty much a jack-of-all trades when it comes to detective work, but he's not anything like Superman or any other superhero.

He battles super villains and performs better then most super powered heroes, not to mention the fact that he can take most super powered heroes apart if he's given a reason to. He's a super hero.
Batman battles 'supercriminals', named as such because of their maniacal deeds, not because of any powers they may possess. He performs better than a lot of superheroes in the DC universe because he's one of the smartest men on the planet. He manages to defeat Superman in 'Batman: Hush' because he's not afraid of him and because he's a lot smarter than him
OT: No, he's not. I'm a massive Batman fan (I own a lot of Batman graphic novels and all of the films) and it's a common misconception that he's a superhero. He has no powers. He is at the peak of mental and physical ability, he is the world's greatest detective and he's a masked vigilante who acts above the law. He is not a superhero and, in truth, he's not a very nice guy. This is what makes him such an interesting character. For an example of this, I recommend Frank Miller's 'The Dark Knight Returns'. Even though it's not canon, it is one of the best Batman comic books out there
Batman has fought every kind of villain from the Joker to the Amazo Android to Darkseid.
I don't agree with the statement someone needs to have specific super powers to be considered a super hero, after all by that reasoning it could be argued that superman, hawk girl, martian manhunter or any number of other DC heroes arn't super heroes either since they don't have any "super-powers" beyond thier own natural (kryptonian, Thanagarian and martian respectively) abilities.
Bat-man is well above the level of your average human in terms of intelligence and fighting abilities so in that respect he has much more claim to the term super hero then most.

Also having read alot of batman books (including the dark knight returns) in the past and the only respect in which i'd refer to him as an interesting character is the fact that he doesn't really behave like a character at all most of the time. He usually plays out more like a plot devise or a force of nature. He's less like a person and more like something extremely unfortunate that happens to other people. ( The same applies wolverine.)

Super? Yes. Hero? Yes.

He's just as unrealistic as Superman, maybe even more. The things he does and pulls of on a consistent basis is impossible for a man to all do. He's what you get if you grab everything one person can learn by spending his entire lifetime to it, and put it into one person and turn that lifetime into 10 years, then you have Batman.

I'm a huge fan of him, it's the only comics I read. But it's a huge stretch calling him realistic. Swinging from building to building and doing the parkour while fighting 30 ninja's? Yeah. No gonna happen.

So yeah. He's a superhero. He does (mostly) good and does so in a superhero kind of way.
But Masked Vigilante fits him more then superhero imo. Though the way he is now (Batman Incorperated) he's really more of a worldwide superhero.

Of course he is. He may not have powers, but he does incredible things that normal people are not normally capable of. He fights and beats super powered beings with skill and intelligence. I've even heard that he is stronger than some heroes that have superhuman strength. And check his file in Batman: Arkham Asylum.
*Master of all known martial arts
*Photographic memory
*Trained psychologist
*trained criminologist
So on and so forth. Yeah, he may not have powers, but Batman is superhuman all the same.
Mind you that I don't read the comics, but Batman is one of my favorite superheroes.

This has pretty much encapsulated my feelings on Batman. Batman kicks ass, and while he may not be classed as a "superhero" he is definitely extraordinary.

Batman is not superhero since he is not a supernatural being. This is if we go by the logic of Wittgenstein.
If we speak with everyday terms, he is superhero . But he is not a Supernatural being.

No. He's more of an anti-hero. The worst kind of hero there is! He gives us villains a good name!

Since If I were to attack Batman with a gun, a knife, a plane, a truck, a missle, a magic ring, laser beam eyes etc. he would still win every time then yes he is a superhero. He goes above and beyond the normal man.

Also since Batman has been both Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson the idea of "batman" is already a super hero, Batman has become more powerful then those who where the cowl.

Basically I voted yes.
