The way it was with slight graphic improvments is the right way. Not a soon-to-be cliche look because of how diluted it is becoming. I understand developers wanting to have an artsy look but the same artsy look does not equal unique.
I just think that games like Saint's Row that are cartoony alrady would benefit from having cell shading.

It's still relativly rare and delight when seen, too.

I agree with Booze Zombie, think of it this way, games are getting less (graphically) good the better the realism gets. I understand serious gaming, but its something you do for fun they might as well make it visually appealing too :D

Well thats what i think lol

NO. WE MUST HAVE PERFECT REALISTIC GRAPHICS! I HATE VARIETY IN COLORS!

LOL well honestly I don't think so, I mean cell-shading is a nice choice of artistic design for SOME games, but I wouldn't want all games to have it in the future, just like I wouldn't want all games to be trying to look hyper-realistic. Seriously it's depressing.

Only for games that either want to be like anime or have no desire to be taken seriously.
Scarves. Only for people who want men or have no desire to be taken as masculine.

It's only your perception (and anyone that shares your view) that doesn't see it as having a place in a 'serious' game. What would a 'serious' game be, anyway?
Okay, let me rephrase that. By serious, I mean games like Bioshock. Ones that try to make you think and don't want to be funny or exagerated

Cell shading is only the way to make cartoons (otherwise 2D) presentable in 3D. Otherwise I can't really see it taking off much. Yes Borderlands which isn't a cartoon used it, but it was aiming for that style.

I won't say it's better or worse, it's simply a style. And it's quite welcome given the past 5 years of washed brown and faded gray colour schemes.

Okay, I can respect that. Just when I read your original statement all I could think of was 'The internet is srs bsns'. Came over a tad of the sort of audience who wouldn't appreciate a Kirby.

It is one of many ways forward. I'm not a philosopher of any sorts, but the future has a lot of paths.

As long as I can swap between games that have followed different paths, I'm fine.

For some games, yes.
For others, no.
It really depends on what type of game you're trying to make.
This, very much so.

Most games I find that use cell shading look just wrong, but others hit it head on.

Killer7, rocked with cell shading.
Wind Waker, it was a disaster and took away from the game.

Games like Marvel, where it is a super hero world, cell shading fits, but with a game like Borderlands it damages the appearance (I didn't think Borderlands looked all that good).
