Get online - go to Steam and download Red Orchestra for like $20 one off fee.
You now have the best FPS around. Get yourself a mic, get online and learn some skills.

Red Orchestra is seriously the best FPS about. Do yourselves a favour - Get it, play it online and watch the team kills lady bugs! You will not regret it for a moment.

COD is retarded in comparison.
A video game can't be retarded. Don't use that phrase, it's disrespectful.

I would have to say, the start of the russian missions in cod1 had to be one of the single most awsome gaming experiences in my life.... It doesnt seem like much now when you go back and play it, But the first time you pull up in the boat, bullets flying past, planes crashing into the water, the russian guy going on about stuff, making sure that you duck else you will get killed, guys trying to esacpe and being shot....then getting on the beach to find out YOU ONLY GOT BULLETS... with a machine gun nest firing over the top of you and you having to run from cover to cover untill the point you FINALLY get a gun.... I love that bit, always have always will... this is the best example and reason why COD is not overrated...
Multiplayer COD2 I think was the most fun...COD4 was ok, would be a hell of alot better without airstrikes, Helis, Matyrs and multiple grenades... im not a fan of making the people winning have an even bigger advantage then they already have and people just nade spammng maps...
all those people that are saying "Of course it is overrated because this is my favortie game and not COD" that is kinda a moot point, it isnt about fanboyism is it, COD isnt even my fav FPS, but if you take a look at the series as a whole, and look at the things it has done and brought to the table, it is easy to see why it isnt really that overrated (except for the COD fanboys but fanboys always overrate anygame they are affiliated with)

Yes. As is Halo 1/2/3. Any game that requires, nay DEMANDS, mutiplayer experience to enjoy, is overrated. Because not everyone likes multiplayer. Therefor it is overrated to those people.

I think it's a tad over-rated, but it's not shit.
Its not a bad game, I just feel that WWII, while an important part of history, has been reused over and over making it stagnate.

The COD series doesn't involve only WW2...

I realize this, I have COD4 modern warfare and I do enjoy the game. However I will not go back to World At War because it has been repeated several times over by other COD games and other franchises. Honestly if they would turn it to a Nazi perspective, like another thread is discussing, I would buy it.

My guess is WAW is the last WW2 installment in the series. Hopefully.

The first two call of duty games were awsome, the last two were comparitively shit, especially word at war.

The perks/weapon unlocks are lame, I don't want to ever grind my FPS, I want to have a balanced game. I don't remember cod4 being as bad as WaW, but last night I played WaW at a lan with friends, and as I was level one I had no way of killing tanks or fighting snipers. Really not a good gameplay mechanic. The newer ones may be more pretty with more accurate regos, but they also have terrible (by comparison) maps. Especially given how spam based cod4 is, the maps are too small. WaW has maps that are insanly large, given that early on you can't use snipers or bolt action rifles.

I think it is overrated, not in the traditional sense in that people build it up to be better than it is, but in that people compare other games to it that aren't really even the same, as has been said on this thread already. My favourite example for this is typically CoD4 and Battlefield: BC. I know what you're thinking, they are indeed both war games. But I look at them on a slightly deeper scale then that. Bad Company, to me, was made with the purpose of entertaining the player, while CoD4 was made to provide the player with the gritty realism of modern warfare in incredible and intricate detail. BC doesn't seem to take itself seriously, while CoD4 takes itself beyond seriously, to a point that seems to squash a lot of the humour in it, in my opinion. Although comparing CoD4 to Bad Company is forgivable in my books, compared to some of the more ridiculous ones I've heard (CoD4 and Midnight Club, no word of a lie)

I say yes, it is overrated, although I can tolerate it's overratedness much more that Halo's.
I've only played the first two, although I did like the original GRAW better than I did COD2, and they were released around the same time.

I guess the reason that I don't like it a whole lot is because of it's linear feel. I liked how GRAW gave me the sense that I could flank around my enemies, whereas in COD 2 that often wasn't an option.

Every day at college i hear people banging on about how the cod seres is the best series ever because of its realism and multiplayer. I disagree with this as i am admittedly a massive halo fanboy. But one of my main reasons for hating cod is that i find the multiplayer incredibly unbalanced. On an open map on cod4 one player can sit back, out of view, get seven kills and then call in a chopper to kill everything. Surely this doesnt make a good online experience? So, i would like to know if im the only person who thinks cod is shit.
They can only get easy kills on people if they're you know...not usuing cover and good movement tequiques, you know like how real soldier need to do in order to survive on a battlefield.

I don't believe the CoD series is overrated because it was a pioneer in FPSs. It actually changed how the game looked and acted in ways that all other FPSs now copy with fervor. Plus, now it has gone modern, and brought it to the next step.

Halo is an overrated series because it didn't do anything different in terms of play. Sure, it was a change from the same old WW2 D-Day shit you encountered in every single beginning of the storyline, but the process was the same. It did pioneer online FPSs though, props to it.
