I don't play racing games, myself. Personaly, I don't see that appeal, as I can go out and drive in a circle right now, if I wanted. And don't say 'it's not a circle.' You start at point A, and end at point A, that's a circle to me. :-D And by the way, author, you didn't put an 'a different game' option on the poll...

...but seriously, if racing is your thing, fine, I have neither the will, nor the power to deny you of that. But nothing really needs 'defending.' Play what you want, and I play what I want. That's all there is too it. Personal opinions are why there is so much variation in everything, including gaming.
I wish the world thought that way about everything, things would be so much easier.

I've seen a couple of races on TV. Seems very interesting. Is there a North American version?

Yes, but at least you can work off the frustration you get when racing.
That's true. But, I perfer a game like Grid for my racing experience. Not to arcadey not to simy. Right in the middle.

I tend to play racing games to simulate the rush of real racing. As racing gameplay is fairly similar and doesn't really need to be built on, my main concern is the immersion (graphics, physics and sound).
I chose graphics because that's the first thing I look at.

Racing games can be fun - but I tend not to like the 'realistic' racing games. They usually take a long time to get the hang of, and I never found real car racing to be very interesting. Wipeout and other futuristic or unrealistic racing games (like Mario Kart) are just more fun. Sure they take less skill (actually in the case of Wipeout, I think that game takes a lot of skill to play on the harder difficulties) and sure, they aren't deep games, but they're fun.

As for defending simulation driving games - sure, go for it. If you really like cars and customizing cars and watching car races on the TV, then games like Forza and GT would be fun for you.

Of course, you should think carefully before buying the next Forza or GT games - if the sequel has greater customization and realistic physics, then go for it. But if it just adds more tracks or a few more cars or looks "slightly" better, then it's probably not worth your money.

Racing games are very differnt from other games, they are much more finacy.

Story lines are rather limited and they really much more heavily or good stable clear graphics and responcive and stable contolls.

I belive that its improtant for a racing game to be a game, not a simulator like the grand turismo series...

To me I'm not a huge fan of racing games, and then Burnout showed up.

Suddenly I discovered the pinnacle of 'twitch' racing, with all the nonsense and 'reality' stripped out in favour of making the game fun.

No disrespect to realism and simulator fans, but damn, Burnout brought the fun back to racing that hadn't been there since Mario Kart, Destruction Derby PS1, and Carmageddon (not strictly racing really, but it had cars).

Forza is probably one of the best racing games (series) out there. Good graphics, great game play, and the level of customization is insane. I can't wait for number three in the series.

Gran Turismo is a good game as well. Wasn't really a fan of the license system though.

I love racing games but lately i cant find myself to finish one. I cant seem to get myself to play nfs: undercover or even complete a race in midnight club LA.
Don't bother. Undercover is on bottom on the list of NFS games I've played, and MC:LA created Issue 5
im going to have to agree with u with MC: LA even though i only owned it for a week. It was just too damn hard.

Crashes. Burnout was the only racing game I found I could truly enjoy. There's nothing quite like smashing cars off the road and watching the faulty physics engine send them flying off towards the moon.
