I think it's still holding on as a franchise and still successful. I can't see the end of Final Fantasy anywhere near now but I agree that the quality is sliding downhill.

dont hate them and have played all the ff's i gave my honest assessment of them

Most people, myself included, put the decline after a certain FF title (VI, VII, IX and X being mentioned the most). The thing is (IMHO)...the FF franchise has the capacity to stop circling the drain with every new installment...or fail yet again. To succeed SE needs to put in more effort, like truly listening to their fans (not just the Japanese). I mean...did fans ask for FF XIII to be so linear with virtually nothing to explore?

Maybe it's shameful and dishonourable to accept external ideas and advice as that would imply that they are not omnipotent gods of the imagination? Well, if they keep the current trend going...they will become "mere" master craftsman, proficient at the use of tools such as 3D programmes.

i dont know why any one would think a game that linner would be good when most of the ff's have been about big open worlds "first sand box" games in my view before GTA took them a new way

i mean 10 and 12 were a little linner but u could still explore alot of areas

I think FF has gone far passed that into the territory what I like to call the "James Bond phase" where it doesn't matter how shitty the next installment gets there will be another one released.

Funny thing is it might come full circle and get good again...=/

I mean look at Sonic the Hedgehog, what was it 6 shitty games and now the 2D one looks like a throw back to the first three..=/

Gotta love the haters though getting all pissy hoping it will die off.....Awwwww

The series has been circling the Drain as shit tends to do, for a long time now.
But whilst optimistic, naive idiots continue to buy that crap, then they will keep churning it out.

I can see them squeezing out two, maybe three more Final Fantasy games before all but the most die-hard Square fan stops caring.

Truth be told, this has been inevitable for ages. They ran out of ideas for plots, their characters are flat caricatures at best, and annoying at worst, and they're too in-love with their mythology to try anything really new and exciting.

I think that it's till choosing it's gun, either using the groin-shrinkingly small SwissMiniGun and slowly stagnate into oblivion, or using a 500-barrel Metal Storm Electric gun for a grand finale of bone pulping awesomeness. However, if all cynicism is to be thrown out of the airlock, then Final Fantasy, and every other JRPG COULD, in the future, change things a bit and put down the gun and start skull fucking the competition. I can estimate the time for this breakthrough to arrive to say... when hell freezes over. The only reason why Final Fantasy isn't circling the drain is because of the nigh unbreakable thread tying it to the very rim of the sink also known as it's fan base.

I've been playing since 6 came out, and since 7 it has been going downhill I think but the games were all still good even 10 wasn't that bad, but everything after 10 is just utter shit.

I guarantee if it didn't have the name Final Fantasy people wouldn't complain.

Everyone seems to think it should be about a certain thing, whether that's turn based combat, levelling, huge enviroments to explore including towns, whiny feminine ladyboys with HUGE swords...whatever

The ONE thing every Final Fantasy has in common is change, every Final Fantasy is completely different to the other one so it's only natural that you'd like one and hate another but in all truth, Final Fantasy is probably the most consistant series of games ever with each and every single one being of great quality while experimenting with the original formula.

So what if you don't like Final Fantasy after 7, there have only really been 2 Final Fantasy games anyway and they are 1 and 3, 2,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13 and every spin off aren't really anything like each other and while some games have very much used the same formula from 1 but only really 5 and 11 in the main franchise.

Final Fantasy hasn't gone down hill they are still brilliant games with tons of depth and they always stick to the tradition that I pointed out, in all honesty, every Squaresoft developed game could be called Final Fantasy because they all have about the same in common and that's change, everyone should grow up and stop complaining that every Final Fantasy isn't exactly the same as 7.

I apologise but I'm a big Final Fantasy fan, I have played pretty much all of them and it annoys me to hell when people say it went down hill at 8 because especially with this series, it all depends on what you prefer in a game if you long for original FF gameplay then I'm sorry, play Dragon Quest IX when that comes out. If you want a game with an amazing story and character development along with gameplay that changes with each title but sticks to its roots then play 4,5,6,7,8,9,10,12 and 13.
